Thanks Jay, but am still having problems. For a start if I turn the phone on without a sim, all it says is 'insert sim', and even if I type the numbers in it doesnt do anything. So if I try it with a sim card, it says 'phone restricted. Undo?' I've then keyed in the codes you gave, but both of them say 'unable to undo restriction' and go back to the previous screen. Any ideas what I can do next short of phoning Orange? Thanks

If it is saying unable to undo restriction then that means the phone is hardlocked and codes will not unlock it. It will have to be unlocked by cable and hardware, your local unlocking shop will do this for you and will charge around £5, there is no other way to unlock it I'm afraid.

The Tesco sim is being used by my husband in old Nokia and has plenty of credit on it, and I'm still using the unlocked 6280 with my 3 contract which is just about to run out - it works just fine.

Maybe I should just use it as a 3 payg...

Thanks so much for all your advice, the puzzle is solved!

I rang Tesco and changed tariffs from the Value tariff to Standard and the sim card worked! When I spoke to the Tesco customer services they said that it wouldn't make a difference what tariff it was, 3 must not have unlocked the phone... but that's the only thing that has changed.

hi i hope someone can help me, i have a nokia 6111 pink phone that is originally on a o2 network, i have been using a vodafone sim card but i cannot get onto the web
i assume i will need to unlock it but i havent got a clue where to put the numbers in nor what numbers i need to put in
my number is 359774004527161
will i need to take the sim card out when i do this as well??
