and used 7 (no joy) then 1 after which I managed 1 call with the Orange SIM which I want to use from previous phone. up a Voda card with no problem.

Any help in solving this problem will be much appreciated.

but sound like its possibly not locked as it took another sim card

sim card registration normally means its a sim card fault or the phone has been blacklisted somehow as lost/stolen

Thanks for code, unfortunately it did not work, I got an error message 'Code Error' followed by a tick. I entered your code twice, everything was entered correctly, the IMEI was correct. Could there be another possible code?
