My experience has taught me that it is not as easy as is made out here to unlock a mobile. I bought a Nokia 2760 from o2 and although it says on the box that it is SIM FREE this didn't mean that it is not locked to the O2 network. Here in rural Wales the o2 coverage is poor and I want to switch this phone to Orange.
Certainly I should have checked whether is can be unlocked before buying it as it does not appear in any list on unlocking sites that I have tried. The software solution seems to give a whole bunch of possible codes and you can only try the first 5 before the phone locks against any further attempts.
The £10 market stall option is not working for me either, as I have been told that it has got to be sent away for unlocking and that with post and insurance it will cost £25 and take a week!
Does anyone know what is going on here? Is this a tactic by the phone companies or a money making ruse by the market stall boys? Phones should certainly be required to be sold with much clearer warnings of their usability.
