ebay return, buyer says its counterfeit

I sold a new boxed unopened Fitbit on ebay just before Christmas. It went for a ridiculously high price, I sent it courier, buyer gave me "love it, perfect item, excellent" feedback.

This morning I had an email from ebay telling me the buyer is returning the item because it is "counterfeit", that my funds have been frozen, that I am paying the return postage, that the buyer has "proof" from Fitbit that the item is counterfeit.

I phoned ebay cos my first thought was some kind of scam. Either buyers ebay account hacked, or mine, or phishing

Ebay said that I can request proof from the buyer that the item is counterfeit. I have to accept a return. I have to pay return postage. The buyer has over 100 feedback.

I received the item directly from Fitbit, so I'm guessing this is buyers remorse

Any advice welcome

Oh, and it looks like I am new here, but I got a new laptop for Xmas and I cant remember my MSE log in (doh) and its not recognising my email address

Have you requested the proof from the buyer?

Can you prove the one you sent is real and not a fake?

It 'could be' the buyer has swoped your real one for a fake one!

I once sold a handbag that a buyer claimed was fake because she brought the brand regularly from QVC and was an expert on them. I knew 100% it was genuine but still had to accept the return and pay for return postage.

Personally I'd accept the item back and then just check it was the item you sent. If everything is okay then just relist. Just remember to block the orginal buyer.
  • Yes I have requested proof
  • There isnt any way I can prove it is real or fake, but I bought it directly from Fitbit so I will send it back to them
  • Ebay said I have no option but to accept return and pay for return postage.

If you don't accept the return or resolve this, there is a danger that Ebay will step in and just refund the buyer with your money. You then face having to get the item back from someone who already has their refund.

If it was bought directly from fitbit, do you not have some sort of proof of online order?

I would be uploading that, and then putting in the dispute that you will be checking the serial number when it is returned to make sure that the correct item has been returned.
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)
  • Are there any serial numbers on these things to confirm you get the real item back and not a counterfeit?
I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.
  • OMG I cannot believe what happened. Fitbit blocked the device because "I am not an authorised reseller". I think I need to speak to The Daily Mail about this! Fitbit are making up their own rules. When did they make it illegal to sell a Fitbit?
