Hi boxofpaws. Sounds like you're doing by great!! I really like the way you post something positive and something negative since your last post. It must help you to keep perspective, so I might try this out!

Well done on the weight loss and closing down that credit card!!

    Thank you :)
Well done on your weight loss!! That is a fantastic achievement!!

Polenta fries!! You must make polenta fries! I like rosemary and paprika, but you can add any flavourings you like as you whisk it up before baking. You'll find a recipe online easy. Also, it can be used as mashed potato, which I quite like - it's healthier than normal potato although the consistency is not the same. Lovely with a nice gravy or sauce though. You'll just need lots of seasoning. Oh and I believe you can make polenta cake (a lot of people do olive oil cake or lemon drizzle) if baking is your thing!

    Enjoy! :-)

Come to think of, the restaurant that inspired me might have also served sweet potato polenta fries. I will add sweet potatoes to my next shop. And serve them with flavoured chicken :D

Just dropping in to say good luck with clearing the debts, you sound so determined and positive I'm sure you'll do it!

You made me lol over the haggis and window cleaner - we pay £15 and I think it's too much but who else is going to go up a ladder with cloth in hand? Certainly not me!

    Subscribed.

Thank you, Jonesy, I love it when people drop by. :A

  • Good things today:j
    • Worked at other office - £20 profit in expenses
    • Had a lunchtime walk and stumbled across a B&m where I bought some gravy cheaper than morrisons. Oh the excitement of my life. I brought it back triumphantly to my desk, I think my new team might think I am a little odd.
    • I'm not keen on my new job but I really like the new team and I have enjoyed working with them

    Bad things:(
    • It wasn't today but I haven't posted here yet the results of the mse credit club. It was credit score 993/999 but affordability VERY WEAK. I suspected as much but it was still a little shocking. I need this to improve before we remortgage next year.
    • My new job is still relentless. I'm so tired I've been in bed since 7 (although reading diaries in bed which feels scrummily self indulgent)

    Good things today:j
    • Totally forgot it was coming up but we had a works night out last night. Really really great night, and all on expenses*
    • Going to stretch the current food supplies out to Tuesday by the looks of it. Might need to get some milk and maybe some fruit and veg but no more than £5 worth.
    • Currently cooking ahead, to use up some meat before it goes out of date (which feels a bit organised)
    • One of the chicken flavourings is gone - only 19 to go
    • I have a day off tomorrow:j

    Bad things:(
    • *I had to get the husband to pull over so I could be sick in a layby on the way home last night. I am 40 this year. I am a disgrace.
    • Am having the mother of all hangovers. I have felt terrible all day today and I have spent money in the canteen which I haven't done so far this year. £1.90 on a gigantic filthy sandwich at breakfast time, and a big stodgy lunch for £2.50. And fizzy pop for 80p. All in a quest to feel better. Which I don't.
    • The husband has hired a van to help a friend move some stuff. He set off at 5 this morning and wont be home until about midnight. Poor lovely husband.
    • Also it scared me, as it wiped all the money out of our bank account (£283). Some of it is a deposit and our friend will give us the money back but it did mean I got one of those frightening text messages from the bank to tell me we were about to go overdrawn. Also I had to transfer from the CF.
    • I have £110 expenses to come back now which will help the bank account but I am not sure when that will be.

  • Realised tonight that I have been logging our spends for a full month now. Happy monthiversary to me!

Happy days, we have spent less than the £574 I had budgeted.

The spends might increase, I was really focussing on it this month, full of enthusiasm and I might not manage to keep my focus quite at this level. But it might go down as we find new ways to be thrifty :money:

Groceries 220.78 *we did have quite a bit of Christmas stuff still in the house
    Toiletries 21.78
    Birthdays 21.75
Eating out/ going out 147.06 *this includes a £85 payment towards a hen-do in June
Fuel 11.88 * low because I make money on expenses for travelling which pretty much covers all our fuel.
    Pet food 22.47
    Window cleaner 17.5
    Collections at work 15
    Prescriptions and medicines 5.37
Drinks at home 28.96 *also Christmas leftovers
    Total 512.55

  • Hope your hangover is better lol, I am 40 and I swear they get longer to get over them now!

Well done on budgetting. You're going the right way xx
  • Hope you feel better now! I am 40 and my last hangover was a monster :(

Hangovers when you get older seem to be around a lot longer ! Well done on coming in under budget for the month.
