What you are saying is that the car in the next bay when parked in the centre of the bay cannot open the door if a car nextdoor is parked on or near the line. This indicates to me the bays are too narrow.

By your definition most bays in supermarkets and car parks I go to are too narrow for anyone that isn't an contortionist or a size zero.

Exactly, bays are too narrow, so when you get car park dings, and there is no sign of who did it, and no note left (LOL), blame the company and campaign for larger bays.

Sorry that's not the law of the land.
You are of course entitled to your opinion but that's all it is.

The law of the land is that if you do damage then you are liable to put it right.
The fact that somone is a "numpty" and parks too close does not change this.

If it really does cause you an enormous problem then I suggest

    a) get an old banger
    b) park as far away from other as possible
    c) get public transport where possible.

The fact that some people are not considerate or are simply stupid does not negate your liability.

Even if they block your driveway/garage you are not justified in damaging their property and if you are going to clamp it etc. then you need to be careful not to cause damage.

I'm not saying I agree with this, but I am stating that it's the law.

Peope who want to complain about the spaces being too small should be aware that on a finite piece of land then this will inevitably result in fewer parking spaces (even if they WERE successful).
In any commerical setting I doubt whether compaints will be sucessful as the number of spaces directly affects the income of the companies concerned, so I'm afraid the small spaces will stay.
