Farway, indeed it could be the coffee, if you've not been eating/drinking anything else that you would normally have. I drink a few mugs of coffee a day, but less in the summer, find peppermint tea more refreshing, but need the coffee for waking me up, otherwise I'd be going round in a catatonic state all day.
I've been having a very bloated tum with pains, which I normally don't suffer from. Been having rather a lot of cucumber of late, and was the only thing that I could think of, that wasn't really the norm. Did a wee google, and yes, it can affect one, as one gets older, due to the bitterness. Anyway, been peeling the skin for a few days now, and what a difference. Bloat almost gone and no pains. Couldn't believe that a little thing like that could have me doubled up!
Simple grated cheese with tomato and mayo in a pitta for brunch, with some leftover tomato and pepper soup. Definitely going to be a salad tonight. It's almost 7 pm here, and still hot, and in no mood to eat yet.
Have succumbed to putting the aircon on for the past two nights, not a breathe of wind, despite having opposite windows opened, so windows and curtains shut now, and aircon on. Was bliss, and got a great sleep. Had hoped to wait until July, but hey ho, will just have to have a wee "ouch" when my electric bill comes in and pay up. :rotfl:0 -
Good afternoon everyone,
I wish it was a bit warmer here - I've got a cardi on:(
Lunch was a bowl with salad, pickings from the duck carcass with LO raita and spiced onions followed by a piece of birthday cake:).
Tonight I'm going to have LO curry swithering between lamb saag or chicken balti passanda and pitta with no doubt more raita and onions as I love both. There is also about 1.5 glasses of red wine left from last night so that'll do me nicely:D.
I reckon my first courgettes will be ready within the week, I had hoped to get some gardening done this afternoon but the weather had other ideas.....0 -
Random scoffings day, again. Always things right in front of you that need using up.
I don't really wish to name meals as I just graze.... so far I've had (probably in order):
1 crust of bread and 1 scrambled egg.
1 packet of crisps
3 grapes
½ part-baked baguette + cheese/red onion
½ part-baked baguette + cheese/pickle
1 packet of crisps
I've removed a muffin and two crumpets from the freezer, so they'll go down the hatch tomorrow..... or later as I suddenly remembered I bought a new jar of chocolate spread last week.. and now I've remembered it'll niggle me until I open it.
I bought a random red pepper in the week (4ldi/39p) ... and a pint of milk that I've just used on one bowl of Weetabix last night .... I'd intended to make a crustless quiche with those, but I bet I'm too low on eggs now if I tried. The milk's got just 2 days left on the label .... and I'd like to make up a cheesy crustless quiche of some sort.... cheese/pepper, cheese/onion, cheese/pepper/onion, cheese/sweetcorn.... you know it'll be a "what do I fancy at the very moment I actually get round to it" filling.Anne_Marie wrote: »
Far too hot to do anything today.....had to have a seat in the shade
Bl00dy windy here today .... I keep looking at the floppy gate/fence and thinking "I must, this week, phone around and try to get a sensible quote to rip all that out and have new/sturdy ones fitted".
I have a windy microclimate. I hate the wind.0 -
Sorry that the weather's not so great, it's so changeable in the UK, but at least it does give everyone a chance to have a moan.
Caronc, sorry about having to wear a cardi. Little on as poss for me, swim skirt or shorts and vest tops are the order of the day around the house. Cotton flowing dresses for venturing out, which I can assure you is as little as possible.
PN...I do know how you feel, lived on the north east coast of Scotland for many years, and more than once, was physically lifted off my feet! (I was a tad lighter mind you :rotfl:)
Sun going down here now, so it's a bit cooler thank goodness, and a very gentle breeze. Cooler sitting outside than in. Might eat in a little while, but still not hungry. No idea what temp it was today, as didn't check, but must have been blooming hot, pool temp is 30C at the moment. Really did feel a whole load hotter today to me, must have been because downstairs temp inside is 24C, gawd knows what upstairs is.
Speaking of fencing....I'm going to have to get fencing up around the garden. Getting new neighbours next door, house has never been occupied in the 7+ years I've been here. Dog keeps escaping through the hedge to go and see them, as they are back and forth getting the house ready to move in. Luckily they like dogs, but can't be having my little toerag bothering them every time they step outside. Just a pity that this is happening when the heat is here. Will have to look into things this week and get it done asap.0 -
Pretty much a CBA day here today re food.
Lunch was some salad (tried a dressing of yogurt with little harissa mixed in - well I ate it...but I won't bother repeating that little experiment), a slice of sourdough seedy bread and a portion of T*sco readymade:o tortilla (again....another singles repeat....).
Dinner was really "picky" - a bowl of cut-up pear/an orange/some flaked almonds and a bit of Oatly "cream" on top and drizzled with strawberry sauce and another slice of said bread. Have definitely decided I'm all strawberry-ied out for the year (though the sauce was a readymade one of the healthy variety). Gave away some more yesterday - to someone who had been looking hopeful when I mentioned them and was promptly told they thought they'd eat some right away:rotfl: (think that could be where the rest of this years strawberries had better go then...). The birds are obviously not fed-up with them yet ..... - as I keep spotting little bodies heading into my strawberry beds where I can't spot them (but I know very well some more of them will be eaten for breakfast besides what I've been having:rotfl:).
Anyways....as I'm also rather fed-up with my standard wholemeal bread I usually make - then I'm wondering about trying out Norwegian Mountain Bread. I gather it's a Nigella Lawson recipe originally and has been copied/varied on quite a few blogs now (many of whom have obviously got it from the same - wrong - source, as the typesetting error saying "1 tablespoon" rather than "1 teaspoon" of salt is shared on many of said blogs:p
There's no kneading involved - that sounds like my sorta bread:). Has anyone tried it on here? What about you caronc - have you?:)0 -
I suddenly remembered that I'd bought some "angel delight" and shoved it into the cupboard, as a way to use up milk if/when I bought it - and so I looked...I've got three, strawberry, chocolate, butterscotch. So I just made up some of that. It's potted up and in the fridge....those pots will be scofferoonies later
That milk's now too little to make a quiche filling with.... oh well.0 -
MITSTM...Norwegian mountain bread sounds intriguing, so I googled....won't be able to make it, as never seen rye flour here. Love all the seeds though. Might have a go when am back in Scotland later in the year.
I get fed up of the same old bread all the time too. Made a passata and black olive bread last week (from Panasonic recipe book). Was really delicious, so made another one today, but used green olives instead for a change. Another success, so am a happy bunny. Think I will adapt the same recipe by adding some seeds too next time. I love bread with bits in!
Will just have to remember to slice up and freeze tomorrow, as it's far too soft (although has a crunchy crust) for slicing for sandwiches today.
PN....ooh Angel Delight, yum yum. Can't get butterscotch here, which is the only one that I really love. Must add it to list for daughter bringing over next month. Thank you so much for the reminder. :T
Never did have anything to eat for dinner, still not hungry. Still, it won't hurt me to go without for one night. Spoke to some of my neighbours this evening, and we are all agreed that the heat had soared today, although none of us had a clue as to what it was.
PN...forgot to say, I buy long life milk and keep in the cupboard, well drawer actually. I never take milk in tea or coffee, don't eat cereals, so it's handy having milk this way for cooking. Also buy little cartons (the size of a kids drink carton), for when folk come in for a cuppa. Otherwise I end up throwing the remnants of the big carton down the sink.0 -
Created unnecessary washing up.
Jug/fork to whisk the dessert was all I needed.
I have three pots and three lids to wash up .... because I've already scoffed them all. If I'd just left it in the jug I'd have saved that effort!0 -

I love the butterscotch one, and the raspberry one used to come a close second to that, but I think they have stopped doing it, I haven't been able to find that for ages now.

No I've not tried the Norwegian Mountain Bread but do make variations on this one including using part rye flour and it's always worked well https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/no-knead-beginners-loaf. I use a round 23cm deep non-stick cake tin.0
