I don't think parks are just "big city things". I'm used to a variety of parks and them varying between pretty decent and rather nice.
Then I moved.
But there is a park I recognise as being a park here - ie in the pretty decent category. There is other ground that is called a park and my reaction is "Not as far as I'm concerned it isnt" (more "bit of random grass with bench").
So I guess they appear in quite a variety of places then - as this place isnt a big city or anything remotely like...
I'm a great advocate of what I call "proper parks".0 -
Afternoon all
Another hot & sunny day here, and the only bit of gardening to do today is gently tap the tomato flowers to help them set, plus water the runners and nip the tops out as some are at the top of their canes
Trolley trundling around Asda / Waitrose, not run over anyone yet but I do sometimes find the "long vehicle" problem when making a turn and the trolley bonks a display stand, no damage caused so far
Nothing of YS interest in Asda so jsut salady bits, but waitrose was fine YS day, which sorted out my late breakfast, lunch & dinner
A real Melton Mowbray pork pie, just medium suit two size and prepacked ham & mushroom tagliatelle for one and a meal for one veggie lasagne
Thus following in others CFO footsteps it was lump of pork pie for a late breakfast, and same for lunch. Both with English mustard smeared on, just 1/4 left now which I doubt will see another sunrise
Dinner was going to be baked spud & salad bits, but has now become CBA nuke the ham & mushroom tagliatelle for one
Caronc if there is a Wilko near you, mine is now reducing some garden stuff. I found tomato grow kits, sort of mini greenhouse, half seed tray + cover, compost & tom seeds for 25p. I bought the Gardener's Delight one, that's one of next year's decisions now made. Average 7 seeds per packet, which will do me
Right, coffee & tapping tomato time
PS Clotted cream, years ago with the then little ones I made myself really poorly in Devon. Hot day, a couple of pints of scrumpy at lunch time, as you do, into Ye Olde Tea Shoppe on way back to holiday park. in the sun scoffing a Devon cream tea and having a nice day. Later I was suffering my tum really ached, had to lie down for rest the afternoon, and no sympathy at all from the familyEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens0 -

I also found that if you run (say, nipping across a road) .... the wheels "bounce" side to side and you're in danger of it falling over. I did that when I was crossing a wide road in an ambling/cool manner when the lights changed and I tried to rush it ... trolley went on the bounce and it was only my strength that grabbed it (hoisted it off the ground) that prevented it going over and me looking a t1t.
That's not a design fault/problem as such, just an unexpected behaviour.0 -
The biggest problem I find with trolleys is the "other people bashing their ankles on them" one.
I will only use pull-along ones these days and those are the ones that other people have a tendency to walk into. I lost count of just how many people don't look where they are going - and then complain at hitting their shins on one. Errr...hello......a 3' high or so thing being obviously pulled along behind someone needs to be watched out for just as much as the "someone" concerned:cool:.
Havent figured out the reason why - but that hasnt happened for literally years now. I am wondering whether the reason is because I now deliberately pick trolleys with "looks" (for my own sake) - ie elegant or fashionable or something and people notice these more than the "traditional tartans etc"?? Though other possibility is people are more used to others pulling along little wheelie suitcases behind them?0 -

Has that trolley arrived yet? I want to hear stories of picnic meals trundled in trollies.
Parks seem to vary from the small fenced off area with one bench and maybe a small childs play area, to being a good few acres with a cricket pitch, large boating lake lots of trails and can comfortably take a lot of people at once without everyone tripping over each other
I went into the shop where I have ordered the trolley from this morning and it hadn't come in but they were expecting it in later today. Problem is, I'm not sure that I will be able to collect it tomorrow. If I get a chance I will but I'm going in the opposite direction in the morning. If I can't collect it tomorrow I will get it Saturday. Then no doubt the 'mishaps with the trolley' stories will start knowing me0 -

I'd suggest that anybody who gets one takes it out on little jobs at first, to get used to these things... probably 3-4 day-long outings, before taking it anywhere where it's to be relied upon with a full load etc .... I did the "long vehicle/clipped something" in a shop yesterday .... and blow me if I didn't catch it on the same item when I turned round and left by the same route!

..and I'm in West Wales these days - but can buy it in my local T*sco:). I've now figured out where I can buy the organic version locally that I personally get - if not quite so locally (ie more like when I'm having a day out somewhere pretty reasonable to get to by bus from here).0 -
Good evening everyone,
Farway - thanks for the heads up. I can't easily get to one which is maybe just as well but I'll ask my son to pop into to the one near him and see what they have
I'm not actually that keen on clotted cream much prefer "normal" whipped double cream on a scone & jam (I know I'm a heathen.;)). My favourite scone combo is either a treacle or soda scone with butter and strong cheddar.
Last night's "not quite rissotto" was really good. I ended up melting some smoked stilton through it and grating a little parmesan over the top once served. There is a portion left but I'm going to freeze it otherwise all of today's meals will be exactly the same as yesterday's which I try to avoid if I can. I don't mind breakfast & lunch being repetitive but prefer not to have the same main meal twice in a row.:)
I spent today sorting out paperwork and decluttering my chest of drawers as it has poured all day. How many pairs of socks and sets of gardening clothes does one women need- certainly far fewer than I had that's for sure. I also found a missing pillowcase in a stack of t-shirts obviously had a bad putting laundry away moment at some point.:o
Dinner I think will be something done in the oven with what's left of the broccoli as I'm past the point of standing to cook something after this afternoon's exertions. I've plenty of spuds so no doubt a baked tattie will feature:).0 -
For tea I emptied the last 1/3rd of a tin of beans into a mug and the final 6 cocktail sausages .... but I'd frozen the bread earlier today after I made/ate a cheese & pickle sandwich for lunch, as I didn't think I'd be using it again (BBE 1 June) .... and I CBA to get out a slice to toast it, so I just ate the beans/sausages from the mug with a teaspoon
Then had 2-3 choccies .... and a choc ice.
Diet's going well!0
