Hope you manage to cool down, stick your feet in a bucket of cold water for a bit if you can while you are enjoying a cold drink:) I never thought of pairing brussels and houmous but can see it would work:)
Did this as soon as I saw your suggestion and WOW! That really helps. Shame I can't do this at work, though to be honest they have air conditioning so not too bad there, but great for home.
I just love brussel sprouts. I know people think I'm strange for that but I don't care. The sprouts will be 18p for the portion and half the pot if houmous comes in at 16p. So 34p for the snack which I don't think is too bad.
Though my dinner tonight will be very cheap. All the vegetables were reduced, own brand or the 'basic'. Cost per portion of curry with rice will be 50p by my calculations. Not bad at all.
Edit: I don't keep carrots in the bag. Basically everything gets removed from the bag and put in the fridge loose, except potatoes which are kept in a cardboard box with brown paper to help them keep cool and out of light. Things keep better that way I find. Mushrooms are kept in the plastic punnet but the film removed. I usually buy reduced vegetables and they last the week despite that, carrots usually last 2+ weeks loose in the fridge even when bought reduced.I am a vegan woman. My OH is a lovely omni guy0 -
Hello, another CFO joining in. I've been unwell for the past 2 months, lost and now regained my appetite. I eat paleo as it best suits my system. I started menu planning and simply making myself eat even if I didn't feel like it.
Breakfast today was 2 rushers of bacon with an egg. That kept me going till lunchtime which was an onion, celery and carrot broth, made yesterday, flavoured with Chinese 5 spice powder and matchstick pieces of fresh root ginger. Today I sliced half a cooked chicken breast into it and heated it all up well. There is more of the broth for tomorrow, but the chicken is finished.
Tonight I'm having oxtail casserole from the freezer, with broccoli and green beans.
Re carrots, I seem to get through a bag in about 2 weeks, as I make a lot of soups and broths all year round, and so use them regularly with celery and onions which I also keep routinely in stock.

I gave in and have sort of CFO, all because the spinach had to be dealt with today.
So I sauteed some onion and garlic, added salt, pepper, chilli flakes and frozen peas then bunged in the (massive bag of) spinach to wilt down.
What I do with it remains to be seen. My options include: pouring an egg mix over it and baking it like an omelette type thingy; boiling up some spaghetti or pasta and then adding the spinach mix to the drained pasta; eating it as it is; putting it the fridge then forgetting it's there until it's beyond redemption?...(All with or without added Parmesan cheese )
Time will tell, but as I'm sure you are all on the edge of your seats, I will update in due course

or splitting the mix and doing both. If you have any dhal lurking in the freezer nice in that or stuffed in a baguette with cheese and baked. Go on you've got this far don't let it go to slime in the fridge:cool::)

caron, after tasting some I'm erring on the side of spaghetti too as I think I may have over done the chilli flakes
I love spicy, but it is very, very spicy so needs something to offset the heat...the generous dousing of Parmesan will help too
Worry not, I won't let it go to waste'I'm sinking in the quicksand of my thought

Welcome WeeMidgie, interesting username another west coast Scot like me perhaps.;)
Your food sounds lovely and we have all kinds of eaters on this thread and it's always good to swap ideas:)
Hi, caronc, and thanks also to Hollyharvey for the friendly welcome!
Yes I'm a Scot living in Scotland, but not based on the west coast where the midges in my experience are mighty biters! I swear when they see me coming they line up in squadrons to feast on my delicate Celtic flesh!! I live in a mainly midge free area, thankfully.
There's a small amount of left over oxtail casserole & green veg which I'll add to the broth for lunch tomorrow. The evening meal will be cauliflower steaks with crispy bacon. I have a solitary egg in the fridge which will do for breakfast, with half a yellow pepper and an onion gently fried first & then added to make a skinny omelette.
Monday's my food shopping day, so it's time to see what's on offer this week and think about the menu.
Love the cool soak idea for the feet, and genius to add tea tree and mint shampoo!0 -
Do you have any cream cheese? A spoonful of that with some pasta water will tone it down a tad:)
I do actually ...but I feel like living dangerously, so may just take the 'heat' hit
Thanks for the suggestion though'I'm sinking in the quicksand of my thought

After this current bag of favourite choccies... I must give them up for awhile. Put them back to being a "treat" and not a 3x a week purchase
I've become a bit of a porker....
So I need to stop.
Today since breakfast I've finished off the pot of paste I opened the other day, ate that on a crust of toast; had the last bag of crisps from the multipack; sank 3 slices of the quiche (just one bit remaining), had some jalapeno coleslaw .... and most of a bag of my favourite choccies
Now the day's over, the sun's come out and the wind's died down.0
