    It's really hot here today, got to be the hottest day of the year so far, it feels a lot hotter than yesterday, so of course I have had the oven on :eek:


    I went out early to Waitrose and did ok on the y/s front, I only picked up things on my list that were reduced and got a massive cauliflower down to 30p, some sourdough bread down to 52p from £1.49, raspberries at 69p, kale 35p, mushrooms 40p, salad bag 70p and buttermilk 10p. So I was pleased that even with the full price things on my list the shopping came to less than half than I had budgeted for, I love it when that happens :D


    Before I went out I had had two slices of toast for breakfast, one with butter and honey and one with butter and strawberry jam.


    At lunchtime I had a lightly dusted cod fillet with some new potatoes and peas. I decided to have my main meal at lunchtime so that I can just relax for the rest of the day because I find the heat quite draining. I was going to go for a walk around the park but decided that I is too hot for that.


    As I had the oven on for the fish I decided to make some raspberry and white chocolate muffins (hence buying the buttermilk) to use up some raspberries that I had in the fridge, and to give me an excuse to open a bar of white chocolate that has been beckoning me every time I opened the cupboard it was in. So I had a couple of them for pudding with some greek yogurt.


    Tea will be a cheese salad sandwich and another muffin or maybe two.

    Phew it's warm:) that's all my basket tomatoes in their baskets just a load more greenhouse ones to pot on :cool:
    My Dad appeared a short while ago with a Cornetto for each us so we had a nice sit in the sun scoffing them:)

    PN- your quiche looks fab defintely worth the faff I'd say :D

    I'm a bit off my food at the mo, so will prob have an egg n tomato butty for tea.Am running low on stuff, so have just done an ASDA online shop for tomorrow, as feel too wobbly to venture out.

    Just got to "black cat" that ;), mine are in flower in the conservatory. A few hundred miles south makes a lot of difference. I will post a photo to clinch it, in the meanwhile I will keep you guessing for the next few days as to what I am babbling about:)

    PN I was enthralled by 'Quiche-gate'...I find quiche highly overrated and often am left so disappointed by it I wonder why I bought it in the first place; so wouldn't dream of attempting to actually make one myself!

    CFO here is non-existent. Yesterdays meals consisted of one scrambled egg, half a tin of cold beans eaten out of the tin after eating the before mentioned scrambled egg. Followed by 2 slices of toast with butter and cream cheese at about 10pm.

    That'll be a fail on the 'cooking' front then but certainly only enough for 'one' with no leftovers :p

  • Oh well and today's "spotted something I've not tried before" is udon noodles. Duly bought - and I'm now wondering what to do with them:rotfl:.

    I presume I could do a stirfry with them (ie same as any other noodle then).

    What has anyone else done with them?

    I've got a huge bag of fresh spinach that needs using but CBA to cook and there's too much for just one meal!

    Will it keep better if I just wilt it down then put it back in the fridge to maybe use tomorrow/ monday/ tuesday etc

    You could do that but udon are best used in broth/soup dishes. Udon miso noodle soup for example.
    My OH likes niku udon (beef udon).
    Udon dishes can easily be made for one which is great.

    So I have a potato mountain again :o. Saw a 4kg bag reduced to 45p yesterday and couldn't pass that by, I am weak. I see chips, mash, potato salad, baked potatoes etc featuring heavily in the next few weeks at least.
    I am a vegan woman. My OH is a lovely omni guy :D
