Cooking for one

Thank you - I hope Buddy keeps well for a good bit yet:). Ben was nearly 15.5 and although gradually failing was generally well and happy until yesterday's heart episode. At least with pets we have the chance to avoid unneccessary suffering.
Yea we can do that last kind thing for them, thank God xx"You can't stop the waves, but you can learn to surf"

hugs to pet owners with elderly or ill pets. I know what you are going through. Last time we took the ultimate decision was 12 years ago when our last dog was 15. Was awful but also kind and loving
I was just thinking, food, it isn`t just about what we eat but about cooking, clearing up and what we do in the day. I decided to have a full day out today, so if you see me go past on a steam train, I will be the one waving through the window
Up at 5ish so had a small bowl of spelt bran flakes, with fresh strawberries and the last of the almond milk. Two hours later my cooked breakfast: good bacon, an egg, tomato, baked beans and spinach. Yes spinach as I have lots of veg in and it is lovely with soft yolk. Not a lot of anything. Now having a real coffee and will wash my hair soon. 4 veg/fruit so far today
Doubt if I will eat anything until I get back but have quickly put everything in my rice cooker, dried soya for the protein as it will be ready at 5. Frozen veg etc and that will make it up to 7. All dishes done and will soon do the final wipe in the kitchen. I love getting back to spik n span, strange words, wonder where they came from
No more fresh veg from my allotment now, it`s called the hungry gap, I am selective, no point with leeks as we get moth and kale etc is out as I have re-planted. Only frozenveg plus apples and berries but I have a good amount, still0 -
I think I ate for England yesterday!
It ended up as:
Breakfast: 2x toast/ beans/ 2x scrambled eggs
Late Lunch: Half a pizza
Later Snacking: The rest of the pizza
More Snacking: Rest of my choccies
Late Evening: 1x toast/ beans/ 1x scrambled egg
Not sure what to do today .... or what I'll eat.
There are two options to leave the house, or I could just stay inside. It's cool/grey/overcast. There are car boots 15 miles away, or a food festival closer.... don't "need" to go out at all/to either... but I sometimes feel bad that I never leave the house and feel I should be "doing something" even if that's not actually very rewarding.0 -

It is the clearing up that I don't like. I think that it is something that I miss from when I was married. If I cooked the meal my ex would always do the washing up and clear up the kitchen, and of course now I have to do it all myself. I think that is partly what puts me off cooking and reach for a ready meal at times.
Enjoy your day out.0 -

I know what you mean about feeling that you should be "doing something". I often feel that I should go out and do something but then when I do I don't enjoy it, and come back home wondering why I had bothered.0 -
Good morning everyone,
Hope you have a good day out Kittie
Mostly I don't mind the cooking and clearing up but in fairness I have a dishwasher which takes the strain. What I don't like is if I'm having a CBA day, or am under the weather that there is no magic fairy to whip up something gorgeous to eat and clear it all up........;)
Beautifully sunny here this morning but to get cloudier later, hopefully I'll get a bit more done in the garden later.
Food is still to be decided though I have some chicken left from last night that I'll turn into something salady for lunch. I need to start remembering that I'm no longer cooking for me and a wee bit extra for pooch when I'm working out my portion sizes.:(
Got up this morning to a bit of a wonky laptop, think I've fixed it but if I go AWOL you'll know why....0 -
I agree with the "should be doing something" feeling! i just end up going out and spending money on a coffee or in the shops, so sometimes staying in is the better option.
Same with the "hassle" of not just cooking, but clearing up after and often it's just too much effort / time. I often end up with quick and easy food as I can't face the cleaning up.
I'm going away tomorrow so today I will be using up whatever's in the fridge. I had a baked potato for breakfast as I'm out of bread. Ate it with some cottage cheese and diced ham.
Lots of packing, cleaning and work to finish off before I go so today will be a busy one.
Happy Sunday everyone.0 -
I did go out... bought some stuff at a car boot... not much, but handy things that were on my list of "will get one day, if/when the price is right, but can live without them".
Spent £9.60 on things, £7 on entry/parking/fuel to get there/back! So, £16-17 to plod around and buy stuff I didn't need... it's expensive once you set foot outdoors!0 -

I have just been thinking about what you have said about it being expensive once you set foot outdoors, and I have just realised that I haven't been anywhere for a least a month without it costing me money (other than to the doctors which is just around the corner). If not in buying things, but in petrol to get somewhere, like to a friend's house.
Did you enjoy yourself though?0 -
I seem unable to stop eating today.
I have had porridge with cream in (I had a large 600ml pot of cream that needed using up) and a banana for breakfast.
A full roast dinner, and as I had the oven on for the potatoes and yorkshires I thought I would do some blueberry muffins as well. I made 12 large ones, had two with double cream as a pudding, and have already eaten 3 more  I don't know what is the matter with me today, I don't usually eat like this. It's just as well that I'm supposed to be trying to put on weight because I'm sure I will have gone a long way towards adding a few pounds by the end of the day.0
