Mary Berry just grated on me again this morning... her over-smug face when she says the word "family" ... she really milks that phrase over all her recipes.
There's no need to say who food is for, it's for everybody .... she'd be shot down if she said "this is a recipe for black people"!
I do dislike her smugness .... and air of "everybody lives like me" attitude.
It grates more on me since she took a swipe at Delia's childlessness.

Hopefully I'll get my peas planted out this afternoon and maybe some chard seeds planted
Sorry about the pooch, but hopefully your peas & chard went in OK?
Lovely and sunny today, bit windy, but managed to get some of the runners in at last, they are half way up the canes even before planting out. I will have another spot of gardening later once I log off
The YS LO ham is gradually going down, normal ham . tom & cuc sandwich for lunch
Landed a YS deep pan 3 cheese pizza whilst on Asda patrol this morning, £1.63, place bit of LO ham on it, plus spot more cheese [no pineapple here] and good to go for dinner, with half left for tomorrow's something or other

Hi all,
As I was in a hurry to get out this morning I ended up grabbing a banana for breakfast as it was something to hand just to stop the pangs of hunger while I got ready to go out and meet a friend for a coffee in town, and as usual with me and my friends cake did feature
I left my joint of beef in on low while I was out and when I got back I steamed some veg and potatoes and put in the Yorkshire puds. I've just finished this. I thought that I would eat early so that I could get cleared up and have a bit of a chilled evening. If I am hungry later I will have a beef sandwich, but at the moment I feel a bit too full up to contemplate eating anything else.
I'm glad you managed to get your runners out Farway it sounds like you have had a productive day today.
The pizza sounds good, I love the 3 cheese ones, they are great for adding things to like the ham that you are going to add to turn them into something really nice, and to be honest, the left overs cold make a really good breakfast the next morning0 -
PN I loved Delia, every one of her recipes turned out, guaranteed. No nonsense approach and easy methods, tbh she was a hero of mine. Also liked Ruth Mott and the humour from two fat ladies, I love people who have no airs and graces. As for Mary berry, well just need to look at whats in her salad dressings to know it is all about money, yes smarmy and `aren`t I a good grandmother?` no cares for anyone who cannot or doesn`t want sprogs
Tomorrow is already on the menu, I am planning a solo day out, just hope I don`t talk to myself on the steam train. Cooked breakfast. Soup when I am out and a meal will be ready in faithful rice cooker when I get back, no doubt shattered with ambling and dodging seagull carp0 -
Good afternoon everyone,
I'm a big Delia fan and when I left home her Complete Cookery Course was my bible - I'm now on my second copy.....:) PN - I hate when "celebs" have a go one another what's the point of sniping. They are very different cooks. Mary definitely has the edge IMHO in baking and Delia on meals so plenty of room in the market for both....
Kittie - lovely sounding array of fruit & veg you are eating. Is some of this from your allotment?
Farway - Glad you got your runners in, my peas are planted and the beans planted the other day are looking well. Chard seeds also sown. I'm just off to sow some beetroot, last year I grew some around the edges of my bean tubs and it did quite well so I'll try again this year.
Holly - nowt wrong with cake on a Saturday, unusually for me I had a pud a lunchtime think it's a weekend thing
I had a pork and salad baguette for lunch with lots of mustard and very tasty it was too. I then treated myself ('cos I'm worth it LOL) to one of the pannacottas I bought. It was nice but just a tad too sweet for me. Still I'm sure that put me of scoffing the other one in the pack:o.
Dinner tonight I think will be herby chicken thigh with a baked spud and roasted mushrooms & asparagus stalks. The asaparagus bundle I got today is quite chunky so I'm going to take the spears off and keep them for later. I think the stalks might be a bit woody so will be better roasted. I've wine open and I'd hate it to go off in this warm weather so being MSE I better use that up tonight:rotfl:

Name removed so this isn't "personal".... but tongue in cheek.
Is everybody here a raging alcoholic?
I don't like the taste of wine and have never been a drinker as it's always been me, just me, so it's me that drives... I always drive, have always driven, so drinking never made it onto my agenda.
It's a "very modern thing" that annoys me that everything (in advertising/on the telly/on the news) now includes some reference, or joke, about wine drinking....
Even the news, if there were a reporter on site at a cheese factory having a taster, the studio presenter would slide in a quick "all you need now is a large glass of wine, eh?"
When did it stop being "the thing to do" to put the kettle on, or make a brew for every situation except specific celebrations?0 -

I am an alcoholic - sober for nearly 10 years now.
With this in mind, remembering I'm in no position to judge, I'm continuously amazed by what's considered 'normal' drinking by my (by and large middle class, middle aged, female) co-workers.
It's apparently absolutely normal to go home from work and have a large glass of wine or two to 'unwind'.
Half a bottle of wine, 5 days a week. And that's 'normal' for several of my co-workers.
6 units a work night is 30 units a week (assuming no drinking at the weekend) which is more than double your recommended allowance and the equivalent of a full bottle of Whisky.
Plus it's around an extra 1500 calories a week (2.5 bottles at 600ish each)Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you. Anne Lamott
It's amazing how those with a can-do attitude and willingness to 'pitch in and work' get all the luck, isn't it?
Please consider buying some pet food and giving it to your local food bank collection or animal charity. Animals aren't to blame for the cost of living crisis.0 -
Nope I'm not an alcoholic raging or otherwise
- far from it and drink well within the recommended guidelines. I used to work in a pub so a glass to me is the standard 125mls which to many is now regarded as a small glass. However, I do enjoy a glass and have no qualms about saying so.
BTW - my comment re needing to finish the bottle before it went off was also very tongue in cheek....:D
However, red wine (I'm not keen on white) does pose a problem for us CFOs as it does need used within a shortish timescales. I usually get a wine box (four bottles equivalent) which keeps for 6 weeks minimum so saves unneccessary quaffing and also is handy if some is needed for cooking. However, I'd finished the last one and given the stresses of yesterday believe me I really enjoyed the couple of glasses I had last night.
My favourite tipple is a cup of coffee unfortunately only able to have decaff these days:(0 -
