oh dear, is going to be one of those scratching around days. I need to be on the allotment later, so am going to have to do an all-in a rice cooker meal, so that it is ready for lunch time. I actually love them, just as well

I am on a mission to completely clear my veg drawer, nearly there, not much left and I could easily make a good soup with everything. I looked at the delia book btw, loads on amazon for 1p. looks good for some, not for me as I can cook but sometimes need the incentive, which comes from my head. It will be fish and nuts for the proteins today and a bit of goats cheese and some soya. Enough protein for me and we need more as we age btw, also to feed our hair, mine was falling out for quite a while after dh died. Its stopped

Veggie and fruit amount will be ok too and I have fab spelt buns in the freezer. Made them yesterday also dark choc to look forward to. Had a GnT yesterday, so no more drinks this weekend, water mainly but my one black coffee now, an expresso with water shot through twice, real coffee, fresh ground, another treat

Happy May Day and good morning all

Not much like May day outside, very dull and looking rain anytime now, just right for granddaughter's 7th birthday today, not

I eventually settled on a tin of veg soup and a tom & cuc sandwich for yesterday's dinner, did the job and justified me "getting some tins of soup in just in case" a while back

As mentioned it is party time today, but more light buffet, crisps etc, so sort of need something for later, no idea what, it will have to be light & non spicy due to tum, off into town in bit so will see what the YS situation is, perhaps a cheapo veg type pizza I can add to, or salad leaves to make own small salad [reaches for tin opener]

Hope your weather lets you onto allotment Kittie, I was going to apply some liquid fertiliser to some of my plants, but with the rain due, plus time constaints, looks like another day will have to do

good morning all, cold wet and miserable here in telford, soooooo want to do some gardening, got so much to pot up . Decided since there is only me to be inconvenienced to do indoor gardening, have humped bag of compost, pots and plants into my cosy warm kitchen and will spend a happy hour or two in there. Lunch will be a quick ham omelette probably with a liberal sprinkle of compost lol.

    Good morning everyone,
That's me back to CFO again.....
I had a superb meal at my sister's last night she really excelled: roasted tomato soup with garlic croutons followed by slow roasted pork in a cider/apple/onion/mushroom sauce, fennel/potato/parmesan bake, glazed carrots, calvo nero, samphire and roast spuds with a chocolate ganache with biscotti and mandarins for pud. It was like being on Masterchef without the mishaps LOL :D. After dinner we played Cluedo . So all in all a great evening. Between that, various visitors and having my son back for a few days it's a bit of a dunt to be back CFO. Still I'm worn out and need to rest up for a few days so probably not a bad thing :).

Breakfast was toast with cottage cheese and a banana, lunch I'm not sure about and I think tonight I'm going to keep it simple. I've a couple of slices of stuffed turkey in the freezer so think I'll have them with some jersey royals and green beans. The meat is in a vac pack so I can pop that in to steam with the veg. If I CBA I'll make some sauce otherwise it'll be gravy from granules.

Following on from that page linked above I ended up buying Maw Broon's Cookbook for 1p (plus postage) from Am@zon. Prime delivery, so it should be with me tomorrow.
    .

My 1p book was in absolute pristine condition when it arrived. I remember seeing it in a Glasgow bookshop whilst on holiday.
It's quite a big, heavy book and it was just too much for me to carry on that day. Now I have it!
I will be buying the Glasgow Cookery Book as well, I think.
I love the scrapbook format of Maw Broon's book but I'm very glad there's a good index, as looking up a recipe would be a nightmare otherwise.
The 'handwritten' additions by The Bairn and The Twins are a joy. 'Me no like eat bunnies' on a page with a recipe for rabbit, for example. :D
Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.

Sounds like a great read as well as the recipes :D

Lunch is a cheese & tomato roll with salad cream and a big wodge of cucumber on the side. Not quite in the same realm as last night but tasty ;)

:rotfl:at the thought of omelette with seasoning of compost:rotfl:

Still - you're one up the scale from me as to what lunch is today.

As this morning consisted of a carpet firm guy here discussing options for some new flooring in the house (all under the s*dding banner - as in I darn well shouldnt have to = not my choice/not my fault) there was a consolatory drink (or two) at lunchtime. Followed by some crusty type bread with hummus and then a banana.

Think that must rate as the most CBA "cooking" for some time.

My excuse being I'm entitled to some time "throwing 40 fits quietly" on my own in my home about blimmin' (expletive deleted) workmen before I take a deep breath/sigh/decide what to do to put things right this flippin' time:cool:. I'm censoring madly just exactly what I would like to say about some recent workmen I've encountered (but at least this particular one - ie the carpet guy - knows where I'm coming from and what the proper standards are for doing things + just how readily customers can check out how things "should be done" on the Internet these days. I've had him here before - so I know he "thinks the same way as me").

Wonders whether I should ensure the fact I have a computer should be made much more prominent to workmen coming here - ie "I can check on your standards (or lack of....) readily you know as to whether you're telling me porkies when you say 'how things are' ......" Today's "knows where I'm coming from" carpet guy instantly asked if last workman here had done x. I checked - he hadnt...

I will be back on track soon for some decent proper cooking - and no more consolatory drinks to reward myself for having to deal with "whatever-it-is this flippin' time"

moneyistooshorttomention hope you get your workmen sorted out

I'm just to pick what is probably the last of the chard from my garden to have with dinner tonight, I must get some more started. It will be having a good soak in some very salty water to get rid of any lurking beasties, a a good rinse and it'll be getting steamed too. So a very MSE one pot dinner tonight:)

Breakfast was a toasted muffin, 2 scrambled eggs and 1/3rd of a tin of beans.

Mid morning and it was the last muffin with some chocolate spread on it.

Late lunch was the last of the chinese chow mein and chicken in batter - and I made some curry sauce to go with that and polished off the last of the prawn crackers. That easily did for three meals in the end.

I'm guessing I'll want to eat again later .... but I've nothing that springs to mind as being available, so I bet a cheese triangle gets a look in... on its own as I've no muffins, no crumpets, no bread at all.

EDIT: Hang on, looks like A1d1 are open still ... I'd assumed they'd have closed at 4pm. Might shuffle down there in a bit for an amble/loaf of bread.
