Cooking for one

I'm going to try a wee experiment tomorrow. I'm not using my 3.5L slowcooker as much these days mainly because of the amount of something produced. I did think about getting a baby one but I'm not convinced I'd use it enough. Anyway I love slow cooked pork ribs, so tomorrow I'm going to sit a casserole dish in my slow cooker propped up on some ramekins, add a little water to the bottom of the slow cooker, pop one portion of ribs and some sauce (not sure what type yet) in casserole, cover it and see what happens:) I've made lamb donner that way before and it worked well so fingers crossed:D
I was going to say you can put smaller dishes inside.... but, reading on, I see you're trying it.
If ramekins don't quite work (too big/faffy), a saucer could be perfect. If you've not got a saucer, keep an eye out for one at about 10p at a car boot/charity shop in the coming months.0 -

Hey guys can I join you?
I've been living alone for 2 years now and at first everything was made from scratch.
Now, well yesterday was a jacket potatoe with cheese and tonight was a microwavable pizza... Though currently got a bag of tortillas and dip on my lap.
I still occasionally get into the cooking habit and I think I have 2 lasagnes in the freezer but I'm always forgetting to get them out and as they're in metal tins, no microwave possible!
Really struggling with the motivation to cook!0 -

That's the main issue ... after the initial "woo, I can cook/eat what I like" excitement wears off and you've got over it
While there are a few people who LOVE it ..... there's nothing shameful about hating it.
"It's just me" ... as you nuke something, then grab a spoon to eat it with and head for the sofa ... still clutching the cooking package/plastic bowl and thinking "might as well eat it from this, less washing up".
So, don't feel it's "bad" in any way to cook what you like, how you like - and eat as badly as you like.
Never be food shamed.....
I've seen many a Disciple of a Latest Fad spout out their food choices and, in all honesty, often they're just fooling themselves and a tin of peas would've been a better meal for them.
Just because something is quick, easy, processed, bought, microwaved doesn't automatically mean it's "bad". Anybody declaring so is mental
"Sous vide"? Ah, you mean "boil in the bag" ... right.
Many just use posh words to obfuscate the fact they're eating the same way as those they'd snort in the general direction of0 -

Really struggling with the motivation to cook!I think all us "cooking for oners" struggle a bit with motivation at times. I found all the different views and suggestions on here really helpful in a) getting me out of a rut cooking-wise and b) not beating myself up if I go for the quick option:D PS- I cook lasagne in the oven from frozen just at a lower temperature (150 degrees- fan oven) and for 15-20 mins longer never had a problem with it drying out or still being half cooked in the middle
Edited to add - Just seen PN's post - do need to confess I have sous vide machine but I'm not a food snob or food shamer honest. It was just a rather lovely gift from kids for my 50th birthday :cool:0 -
Thanks guys!
I'll have to try that one, I'm normally better at cooking for myself of a weekend so will be next week now.
I'm a vegetarian too so sometimes struggle to find something different to cook.
A habit of mine is to go through the chain pizzas apps, compare prices and even select what to order... Only to then go and grab something to microwave or a sandwich!
I love making fajitas but I find it's a lot of effort for one night for me and never found a way to keep it without it going nasty (open to tips!) I do use vegetarian hotdogs in them as they're far better than the fake steak strips IMO0 -

Cheese on toast AND baked beans AND fried eggs = HEAVEN!
How can you say that delivering heaven on a plate is lacking in imagination???
I wholeheartedly agree with you PN..that is a plate of food to be proud of'I'm sinking in the quicksand of my thought
And I ain't got the power anymore'0 -
Gah even though I've just eaten I'm wanting vegetable fajitas now! OH makes double for me as I love it the next day. I could live off of fajitas, curry and chinese.I am a vegan woman. My OH is a lovely omni guy0
