Same round here, I guess on orders from head office Asda did have a spate of Halal, but that fizzled out due to not many Muslims round here. Then they did Polish, likewise failed
I smile sometimes when I see posts about using Oriental grocers for cheap rice and the like, there are none round here, not that it bothers me, I don't mind not living in a mulitcultural area
Tonight's meal is really lacking any imagination, cheese on toast with baked beans and fried eggs on top, healthy touch is it is wholemeal bread and I may grill a tomato to go with it while toast / cheese is under the grillGardener’s pest is chef’s escargot0 -

I don't like to correct people too often, but you're WRONG!!
Cheese on toast AND baked beans AND fried eggs = HEAVEN!
How can you say that delivering heaven on a plate is lacking in imagination???0 -
I'd never seen marshmallow fluff until someone used in Great British Bake Off a few years ago is it very sickly sweet? Now toast with peanut butter & banana now you're talkingPasturesNew wrote: »I freeze a loaf, but that's about 20% of the freezer taken up, so I try to juggle bread ownership/freezing. What I do is buy a loaf and remove 8 slices and immediately freeze the remaining 12.
I like to buy a loaf at the last minute, closest to when I'll actually start using it. There's often a gap between loaves.
But a loaf/half takes up a LOT of space and is annoying as it's not "interesting food" when you open the freezer hoping to find something fabulous.
I've given up on bread. I ate too much of the home made wholemeal loaves from the bread maker and gained weight! When the bread maker went and broke my waist thanked me. I eat rice cakes now instead and put an open pack in a zip lock bag as I never eat more than four a day, but usually two. Oh and the reason I just had to eat all the loaf? I didn't think it defrosted into the same product and my OH being him only eats white loaves. Yet again making us look like two people who just share the same kitchen instead of a couple, lol.I am a vegan woman. My OH is a lovely omni guy0 -

Dad used to massacre chickens, rather than cutting/carving them - knife straight down, through the back bone, wrench it all apart, make it look disgusting.
I'd say "Let me do that" "Don't do it that way" "Do it so it's not gross looking" - his reply was "Don't be soft" .... so if he didn't care, why not just humour me and do it my way, then more people would be happy!
If your OH simply said "Don't care what sort.... so I'll get the one XYZ likes" life'd be better/simpler all round!
It's the same with chocolates - for those people who don't care which one they have, why shut their eyes and dip in? Why not let those of us who DO care choose our least favourite from the box for them? I hate it when "I don't care which one I eat" pulls out MY FAVOURITE and scoffs it!0 -

Sainsbobs didn't stock it when I got there - see, so much for these mythical shopping lists you have to make ....
I spoke to the woman doing food tasting (by god that was a hideous 'stir fry' she'd bodged together).... I said about "world food aisles" and she said "Yes, I've been up to cities and they have aisle after aisle - but there are no asians or similar anywhere near here, so we've just got 2 shelves of rice/noodles here".
You can't go online and find out which shops stock which products - the woman said they supply regionally, so even another Sainsbobs close by wouldn't stock them either in all likelihood.
I did ask a staff member which aisle I should look at - and she seemed confused that such a product even existed. I spent a full 10 minutes going up and down that aisle 6-8x double/triple/quadruple checking every product on every shelf, at all heights .... to make sure if it was there I'd find it.
No joy.Same round here, I guess on orders from head office Asda did have a spate of Halal, but that fizzled out due to not many Muslims round here. Then they did Polish, likewise failed

Unfortunately no Asian stores here either have to go to Glasgow, loved it when my elder son was living up there as I could text him and he would bring me bits down when he was coming home.
Our local world food aisle is ok - but very hit or miss in what they stock at any given time so generally if I see something I know I'll use I get it while I can.
PN - what a shame about your wasted trip:(, it's on offer in Tesco until 07/03 if you can face the trek to see if they have it.:)
Farway- your dinner sounds lush could you add a splash of HP sauce to my portion:rotfl:0 -

I'm more concerned with the knowledge that my OH could contaminate my foods or drink (such as peanut butter) with a non vegan product.
Him having a different product means that won't occur. OCD-ish yes but something that I can't help.
I agree with the other thought though. Simular to a vegan/veggie option being there at a buffet and the omnivores scoffing it all before you get the chance to get to the table! A friend of mine once made the place hold a plate aside for me just to make sure I got fed at such an event they had as they knew what would happen otherwise. The people catering even brought me the plate as my friend had mentioned to them that I was in a wheelchair!I am a vegan woman. My OH is a lovely omni guy0 -

I will freeze the odd slice but would only make toast with. I find some rolls, crumpets, bagels etc. are fine frozen.:)

I'm going to try a wee experiment tomorrow. I'm not using my 3.5L slowcooker as much these days mainly because of the amount of something produced. I did think about getting a baby one but I'm not convinced I'd use it enough. Anyway I love slow cooked pork ribs, so tomorrow I'm going to sit a casserole dish in my slow cooker propped up on some ramekins, add a little water to the bottom of the slow cooker, pop one portion of ribs and some sauce (not sure what type yet) in casserole, cover it and see what happens:) I've made lamb donner that way before and it worked well so fingers crossed:D0

The one time I plucked up courage to attend a Mensa event that involved a meal, they did the sensible thing and made the omnivores wait til the veggies had got their food.If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0
