I love Heron but my nearest is a 40 minute bus ride away so I usually make a day of it visiting the market and charity shops, but if I didn't have a bus pass it wouldn't be worth it as the fare is 3.90.
I am lucky that Asda is only a 5min walk. What are your nearest shops?
Lidl/Aldi, both within half a mile.
Sainsbobs, not a fan of it.
After that, if I ignore M&S Food and Waitrose (which I do ignore of course - and they're about a 2.5 mile round trip but don't have free parking), then Tesc0 & A5da are a 15-16 mile round trip - although they could both be done "in the same trip" that Asda's not as good as the one a further mile away ... and, having visited ONE shop you already have WAY too much food, so there's no point going into another shop.0 -

When you can see they are looking at and/or posting on a thread you've just been on rather a lot more often than coincidence would dictate - and sometimes get posts of yours deleted if they can manage it:rotfl:
Don't worry Pastures - I don't think you've got any of them hanging around you:)0 -

For a fair sized town - we serve around 40 000 people counting the outlying villages - we don't have much.
Heron have been here for many years now, but the town centre is run by London landlords who charge huge rents, so that trimmed back all sorts of shops.
We have no proper greengrocer now other than a stall in an small indoor shopping centre, one baker plus Greggs (used to have about 5).
One butcher, no fishmonger but a fish counter in a huge Tesco Extra.
Aldi provided some much needed competition for Tesco when they moved on to the edge of the town centre about four years ago.
Our twin new town on the eastern side of the county is local authority owned and has a plethora of supermarkets - an Asda, a Tesco, a Lidl, Aldi, Home Bargains and BM Bargains plus Heron.
I can't remember seeing a butcher's shop there but the last time I was visiting a large greengrocer was still open. It's some distance away by public transport, otherwise I would visit more often. I used to work there three days a week and did almost as much shopping there as I did in my own town.
I firmly believe in supporting town centre shops. Not everyone has the luxury of a car - I don't - and few are lucky enough to stay fit enough to drive until the end of their days. Local shops become a lifeline then.
We also have a corner store in the locality, I used to shop there daily but now I use my adult's trike to pedal down to Aldi as it's only a five minute extra ride when all is said and done.
Food wise I had yogurts for brekky and then had a yen for pancakes so duly made some. Quite a lot of batter made, so some left to one side for later. Something quick for tea, as I'm going out this evening.
I could never understand why some people only made pancakes for Shrove Tuesday, though that seems to have faded a bit now and they do appear on menus at other times of year.
Starting when I was a registered childminder - over 30 years ago- we often had them, the older children loved to help to make them and add their own fillings or toppings.Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.0 -
Afternoon all
No Heron around here, except the bu66er that scoffed my goldfish I guess
sarnie thread, I rarely buy one when out, except perhaps on a journey, then it is stuck for choice and usually have BLT 'cos it is something I rarely have at home
Home sarnies, would be cheese / onion or CBA jam. Pushing the boat out would be crisps, but not often because I don't have crisps in the house unless expect grandchildren coming over
Tonight's dinner is roast chicken and steamed veggies [no spuds]. Found YS stuffed roast in bag chick in Asda this morning, cooking in oven as I type, lovely smell around the house. Some for tonight, maybe some tomorrow and legs off into freezerEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens0 -
Afternoon everyone
Still blinking freezing here and looks as though it could snow so it was a good excuse for a HM sausage roll and a mug of soup earlier;)
PN - with the exception of the M&S one's I find Chicken Kievs do seem to be a bit sparse on the garlic butter.
Farway - hope you enjoy your roast chook. Do you have any pastry so you can turn some of the leftovers into a pie?
mcculloch29 - pancakes yum used to make loads when the boys were at home but haven't done since I've been on my own. I love a savoury pancake filled with most anything but especially chicken supreme and mushrooms thanks for the reminder about them:A
Well my boy made it home and has had a patch up by the dentist and is now sleeping as he was up most of night then had a 3.5 hour drive home. No doubt he'll be ravenous later. Thinking we might have spag bol or turkey curry or haggis, neeps and tatties as I have all of these in freezer and all are fairly easy going in the chewing department. I'll be nice and let him pick:D0 -
I had some sweeties and a packet of crisps across the afternoon.
Then I suddenly got it into my head to do a 'baked' spud ... with cheese. So I did that and have already eaten itI'd bought a bag of "baking spuds" in Ald1 - as a treat... and chose about the smallest one in the bag to cook - weighed it and it was 288 grams, so a good belly filler.
