Wow 1K posts I'm speechless (folk who know me in RL would be surprised at this :rotfl:)
I have a good appetite (probably too good LOL) but still tend to either have two very small meals and one larger one or two reasonably decent ones and I seldom snack. We are all different so it will vary how much folk eatand how condusive that is to "fitting in" 5 a day and folks budgets
I need to get my finger out and finally decide how I'm doing my cod think I've swung back to the couscous stuffed pepper with it .........
Karcher I love black lentils but can only get them if I'm Glasgow so have run out so I'm envious you've had Dhal made with them still brown and green ones do an ok job too thankfully0 -
I use both, but tonight it was packet ones.
I don't soak them, I just rinse them.
If like tonight, they are green lentils (or black), I boil them up for 15 mins, rinse again then cook with the rest of the dish for another 20 mins.
If using red lentils, I just rinse them and cook them together with everything else for 25 odd mins.
ETA: Welcome to the thread sitesafe and Mr_Singleton.- I remember the red lentils as a child as Mum used to cook ham shanks with lentils to make what she called 'lentil soup'. I guess with the dried lentils you have some control over portions sizes rather than having to use half a or a whole tin which I've been doing. I may buy some dried ones next time. And probably dried chick peas too...... I just had a lovely supper - risotto with mushrooms, chicken, spinach, fresh parsley, a chopped chilli, garlic and onion. Luckily I made enough just for myself so won't have to have it again tomorrow.

Whilst you don't need to soak lentils, you do need to soak chick peas, kidney beans etc but it is far more economic than buying tinned and not a chore if you remember to leave them to soak overnight. I put them to soak for the next day whilst cleaning up after the current nights dinner iyswim:rotfl:
ETA I'm not sure that even makes sense to me after writing it down :rotfl:'I'm sinking in the quicksand of my thought

well done caronc its great to see a thread that doesn't talk about what "He" is having or what each of the family members will be eating ....I dont care lol the length of the thread demonstrates how much it was needed0 -
