I have looked at:
Brighton
Winchester

Or the equivalent in Winchester, come to that.
Unfortunately you've chosen a very expensive (albeit a very nice) area. Possibly you might get a flat in Winchester, but you're unlikely to find a house of the type you're after for under £200,000.
Better to follow other posters' suggestions and look further north.A cunning plan, Baldrick? Whatever it was, it's got to be better than pretending to be mad; after all, who'd notice another mad person around here?.......Edmund Blackadder.0 -

I am looking to buy a minimum 2 bedroom house in a nice part of England for less than £200,000. Does anyone have any suggestions for places?
Somewhere to raise a family and where there is a good community feel but also decent road connections would be ideal.
I have looked at:- Brighton
- Winchester
EDIT:
Work situation: I can work from home or travel to customer site so my work is flexible.
What type of houses I like: Ideally semi-detached or detached. In a nice area with a bit of community feel and some greenery if possible.
Long term view: I'd like to meet a decent woman and raise a family so something which helps with that when looking for a long-term property would be good. Hence why I said minimum 2 bedroom house
If anyone has some good suggestions Ideally based on your personal living experience there that I can look into I would appreciate your suggestions kindly
come to Coventry. its not at sh 1 t as you may think and does have reasonable priced housing in the nicer parts of the city. and you will also be in the middle of the county so easy to get anywhere.0 -
Wondered if a "nice city" would have affordable semis and detached houses.
....and then checked out Winchester - and nope...not so. The cheapest semi or detached with Rightmove currently is £250,000.0 -
Cheap areas in Winchester? Regarded the 'best' area of the country to live? (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-38351138) haha
It's like my neck of the wood - St. Albans. Houses start at about £300k. Even the 'not so nice' areas are very expensive.
If the OP wants to find affordable OK areas, looking in the South of England is a bad idea. Anywhere nice/OK will be too expensive.0 -

though I doubt if he can get any in the towns he has suggested.
certainly not semis or detached

Maybe meet the decent woman first and then you might be able to afford the property you are looking for0

There are 128 properties for sale within 5 miles of Norwich that meet your criteria.
It's a lovely area, and there's work and reasonable transport links.
I am sure there are loads of lovely ladies there, too.No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -

....and the women are 'decent' too, unfortunately.
What's not so good is speedy access to other more densely populated areas of the UK, and wages here are lower.0 -
If you have looked at Brighton I am surprised you havent considered Hastings. As with anywhere it has its not so nice parts but the old town and outskirts are lovelyand it si
For that budget it has everything and an awful lot of Londoners are relocating to acquire huge villas for the price of a studio in London and excellent train links.
For a family it has everything, country, lovely parks, beach community spirit etc with a lot of events held in summertime.
Would definately recommend.0
