With only two days of Feb left and with no reason to visit the shops before March 1st, I'm decided to call it a day for the February challenge and I am therefore declaring at £540.95. As my budget was only £250, I've overspent by a mere £290.95.

This month I've shopped and then meal planned. This means stuff ends up in my basket that I don't really need and which I buy on the spur of the moment. If it doesn't get eaten before its use by date (like the porky light sausages I've had in my fridge for a week) then it has to be squeezed into my already groaning freezer.

I don't think I have all my receipts for this month to be able to do a proper breakdown of my spends. For example, spends this week included a pack lunch and treats for a train trip and I bought a crochet magazine with my shopping yesterday. Today's home delivery included 3 bottles of wine - one to take for dinner with friends and two for me ! (Might as well stock up)

I think I've spent less than last month but it is still too much so aims for March are to meal plan and to try and think about what I have in my freezer and use that up first rather than keep buying stuff.

See you on the March thread and thank you for all your support this month.

As I get paid tomorrow I'm declaring at £105.64/£140 which I'm delighted about but honestly staggered :)
I think it's down to a combination of being ridiculously busy which has left little time for shopping and which has meant I've used a lot of freezer stocks and previously batch cooked meals but also being really focused on eliminating unnecessary spending. I've decided that I'd like to have some choice in when I retire and have significantly increased my voluntary pension contributions and my long term savings accordingly. It's left me with enough money to live they way I want but there's very little slack for frivolous spending. I'm determined to stick at it and this thread is a huge source of help and inspiration :T
    See you over on March

Original mortgage £112,000 . Final payment due August 2027.
Mortgage neutral achieved August 2020 - 7 years early!!!
  • Since last post we've spent £31.64. OH needs milk and eggs before the month ends for us. That should be all that is needed but we'll see if that is the case by the end of Tuesday.

    £133.98/£140.
    £6.02 left.
I am a vegan woman. My OH is a lovely omni guy :D
  • had a bit of a spend yesterday on 2 HUGE joints of meet from lidles which ive cut into smaller bits and stashed in the freezer, so declaring a total monthly spend of £134.58.
    I'm really quite pleased :D
  • Well done to everyone for your efforts and working out what does (and doesn't) work! There will be no further spends for us so I am declaring my last update as the final one.

Super pleased, with this budgeting, which started off as food, but then branched into all areas I've been able to easily pay for some new flooring at over £70 per pack and needing 4 packs (plus adhesive an ply). It felt really good to pick it out and pay it all off. Although the man in the shop did make me laugh, asking if I want to pay for it later or put a deposit down (I said to pay it in full) at which point he looked like I was going to bring out my piggy bank, then he saw it was just going on my debit card, it felt really good. I think he thought I was some kid because he asked who was going to lay the flooring for me. Uh me!

IGNORE TITLE I'VE SPENT MORE...Just checking in with my end of month balance. It is over what I'd hoped and so was last month's so I'm going to have another look at things. Anyway here's the update:

    New spends
    £20.81 - Co-op - 13.68 food; 3.99 wine; 3.14 cakes and choc;
plus a cheeky £4.34 for fruit and veg yesterday i forgot to add on...

    New totals
    £116.74- food
    £11.08 - indulgences (choc etc)
    £33.75 - wine
    £2.87 - McD's pitstop

    TOTAL £164.74/£130 (-£34.74)

Just realised if I display it as a chart then I can see a lot easier where my money is going - if I hadn't bought wine I'd have stayed in budget!

Me too, I've decided to call it a day on February, I'm well over at £325.77 as my budget was £140. At least I know there is enough in the freezer and cupboards to take me well into March and probably beyond. I shall have to use more will power and maybe catch up a little in March.

See you all over on the March thread :)

    I'm declaring at £262.69.

A bit less (!) under budget than expected (we went to tesco for a business stationery item and spent a tenner!!! On stuff we didn't need- though my daughter did enjoy her mussels) but still under budget :j
