Goodbye BG Collective Fix Feb 2017

In the Manweb area and mostly electric.
The Unit rate on offer at EDF of 14.301p per kWh is very expensive.
The British Gas collective offer last February was 9.469 per unit so a massive jump.
Think I will go with the British Gas offer of free electricity 9pm to 5pm on Sundays for those with Smart Meter and 13.73p a unit at all other times.
Cost a bit more than others but heat house with elecy and can utilise the free electric for other things (washer/drier etc).
HomeEnergy FreeTime (Sun) May 2018
Free electricity every Sunday 9am-5pm until May 2018.

Unfortunately the new MSE Collective Switch isn't the best deal for me. Been waiting all weekend and it's been a bit of an anti-climax.
The EDF Collective works out at £1389 for me.
The E.ON Saver Fixed 1 Year v7 Online is actually cheaper at £1381, with the added benefit of a lower exit fee should it be necessary.
Looks like I'll be cheaper staying away from the Big Six altogether and taking one of these fixed deals instead:
IRESA £1263
Economy Energy £1326
SO Energy £1340
Tonik £1341
AVRO £1346
Something isn't right when small startup companies can outprice the Big Six and none of the latter can even provide a Collective Fix to match them. It's sheer bloody greed!0 -
The EDF collective fix is about £100 more for me (excl cashback) than dual switching to Iresa, £120 more than if I move gas to Better Energy and elec to Iresa. Cheaper with First Utility too (the cheapest cashback option on my results).
Hmm, need to do some thinking about the relative customer service issues, moving to separate suppliers, and see who's really worth it.
The EDF elec unit rate is a bit of a killer for me!0 -

I clicked on the link in the email but can't find the collective deal. If Iresa beats it, I'll go with that as that's in motion anyway. Bit of a let down.0

Hi Luckwuaveit
You should be able to spot it under the top picks.
But if you do go with Iresa, don't forget to update your CEC details once the switch goes through so we can monitor your new fix for you.0 -
I was hoping for a good deal - this offer isn't even the Top Pick. It's so poor I kept refreshing the page waiting for the "real" deal to appear... but nope, waited 2 weeks for this and it's a real anti-climax. Disappointed after all the hype "Super Cheap Collective Fix" - I disagree!0

Hi Safehaven
I'm sorry to hear that the tariff doesn't work out so well for you. On average, this tariff is the cheapest fix in the region (apart from Iresa which we reckon is a bit of an outlier) once you include £30 cashback.
Though of course it can be beaten depending on your usage and there are a couple of variable tariffs which may undercut it - though there's no guarantee that prices there won't rise in line with the market trend.
The main thing to avoid is sticking on your supplier's pricey standard tariff, whether that is by switching to a collective or elsewhere.0 -
I live in Scotland, and the 2018 collective works out to be £150 more expensive pa than the IRESA 12 month fix. Not a difficult decision to make...0

I just switched to IRESA.
Was going to do it at the start of the month but held out for the Collective Switch, hoping it would be better or even close. IRESA is £126 cheaper than the EDF Collective for me (£96 if you include the £30 cash back after 3 months. Factor in the £70 early exit fee applicable to the EDF Collective and IRESA (no exit fee) was the better option as I can now switch again should prices come down.
Kicking myself for not initiating the switch earlier, as I'll now end up on the BG standard variable rate for two or three weeks until the switch is completed. I really expected more from this Collective Switch, the Big Six can do much better!0
