  • Well I'm gobsmacked at these huge lists!!

    My list is;

Husband; about £40, but don't always bother

kids x 3; getting on for £250 each

my mum and dad; £60 between them

    my brother; about £25

Yes, I know it's a huge amount on the kids, but they haven't any cousins, only one set of grandparents and one uncle, so I think we have always tried to make sure they have plenty of parcels!

Of course when they were little it was relatively easy, now they are teenagers and thier needs / wants have changed!

Saying that, they now realise how much things cost, so their requests are
    more reasonable!

We are saving up for our first holiday abroad, so warned them not to expect too much anyway!!

BTW; who does stockings for their kids? I'm thinking about knocking it on the head this year. What age did you all stop doing it?icon5.gif
    Thanks!

 What no stockings :( .........I still give my children stockings and the oldest is coming up for 21 ;)

I don't do stockings any more, but I still do stocking fillers.

I've ordered her the Uggs. I will probably get 1 other large prezzie (shes asked for a 32" LCD, I think on top of the Uggs & will stocking fillers this is a bit much! Maybe I will get her half a dozen driving lessons or something & leave the TV till her birthday).

I usually spend up to £100 on bitsn'pieces, stocking fillers.

Nice scarf, jumper, bath set from Soap'n'glory, nice make-up, CDs, DVDs, ect ect. Those sort of things.

My mum still does them for us (and one for my dad). We are all between 21 and 28 :o Became a bit of a tradition to be throwing foam gliders at each other on Christmas morning. :rotfl:

My daughters are 17, 16, 14 and was going to stop this year but it's kinda traditition so probably won't stop. But usually fil it with stuff I would normally buy through the year :
Hair spray, face wipes, shampoo, new toothbrush, underwear sets, cotton wool, make up, chock/sweets, magazine.

I made the mistake of buying hand knitted huge stockings when they were little and they need such a lot to fill. We wait until they are asleep (early hours of the morning) and leave them outside their doors.

Then they all come on to our bed and open the stockings together.

AHH, I think I might miss that bit if I stopped doing them. Makes me feel all teary eyed.

family decision last year and it worked fantastically. No-one to spend more than £10 on any person. The more home made the better

we spend on immediate famiy only to include in- law sons and daughters plus grand child

used to be 42 when we could least afford it as a young couple with small children. I put a stop to it and everyone breathed a sigh of relief

edited: I would spend about £100 on each of our children if they were still dependent or students and I do give a cash sum if I think it would be helpful throughout the year. Christmas in our house is now how christmas should be

    I buy for:

    OH - £50 (+£10 stocking)
    DD - £100 (+£10 stocking)
BiL/SiL (couples with kids)x 4 - £2.50 per couple (they all get the same as it avoids stress)
    B/SiL (without kids) - £20
    neices x 6 - £5 each
    nephews x 3 - £5 each
    Mum/Dad x 2 - £10 each
    Friends son - £5
    Friend - £5

I've finished most of them - just a couple to go but know what I am getting.

Cashwise i've probaly spent £20 - all the rest has been vouchers/points/comp wins/incentivve prizes from OH work - as will what I have left to get.

Oh - and I bought myself a DS game in the Asda sale for £10 which has gone away for my to get on xmas day from either OH or DD :p

We still do stockings - I do OH and DD - and they do mine - and we have an 'extra' budget of £10 silly gifts for stockings.

EDITED TO SAY: I have to say - out of everyone I probably get the most spent on me - but thats 'cos I shop for everyone else throughout the year in sales etc and OH just goes to town weekend before and buys what he sees - but I am trying to teach him!

we dont do stocking but have a german goodie bag that my grandma always did, sadly she passed away last year so ive taken over the job of doing the german goodie bag as all of us feel like it wouldnt be xmas without our goodie bags and that includes mym mum and dad.

i just love xmas and giving gifts

i even still do an xmas list for my mum and dad and even when im 50 i will still do one as its tradition that it goes on their fridge ( my siblings dont do this htough and my list ranges from 50p to 1/4 million quid - i live inhope they will win the lottery and buy me a house )

ilov tradtions its all part of the fun
  • I love doing stockings, I make them for my OH, DD and my mums best friend, her husband is a Jehovah witness so she comes to us for Christmas she never got a stocking as a id so I made it my mission to make up for her past and spoil her rotten at Christmas, but then she has been a great friend to the family for years, the last few years I have been doing one to match hers for my mum and they have great fun taking the presents out together and trying to decide what it is.

my best friend found out about my stocking making and has started doing me one too, he pops in things lie bubble bath and pens and gives it me at midnight mass so I leave it at the end of the bed like I do with the OH and DD and Charlotte is convinced she must have great parents because Santa leaves us stockings too!

I'm making some little ones for the kids I tutor this year, with maths sets, pens, cheap calculators and little square paper note pads in, and some for my class at school with stationary in. I'm a lucky teacher and only have 6 kids in my class the joy of working with sen pupils!
    Started comps 7th August 2007 total for 2007 £1890
had a break for a couple of months £835 / £2008 wins this month,
    DVD
