it amazes me how much a few of you spend on your OH !!!!
cant you cut that out to save more!I heart The Capital0 -
we are being cheap this year, spending £5 on everyone, except my mum (£15) and our son(max £150). other half has put in a request for a new dressing gown so whatever this costs is what i'll spend on him.
we have about 35 pressy's to buy this year.
this is a dramatic cut since last year where xmas costs us well over £1500, as we're getting married next year we've had to cut back alot to afford it. so xmas was an obvious place to cut back. will most likely spend more next year once the weddings out the way.
although usually we dont really budget per person, its usually a case of buying what suits each person whether it be £5 or £50.0 -
Thanks everyone for your replies

I have a budget of £400 for presents. (No kids of our own).
That’s 2 cover - 10 kids, 2 dads, 1 mum, 3 bros, 1 sil, 2 cousins, 1 aunt.
We stopped buying the adults that have kids a few years ago,
but if there is anything left I will buy big bro and sil a wee minding.0 -

OH and I don't spend that much on each other - he usually buys me books, (normally in Latin), as I like to read and wouldn't normally spend £15 on a book for myself as I read very quickly and won't touch it again when it's finished. I tend to buy him DVDs (currently working my way through the Simpsons box-sets!). I did send him for a flying lesson (via lastminute.com) when he finished his thesis, but that was a one-off. Thing is with us is that I actually wouldn't know what buy with £100 for him and he wouldn't know what to buy me either! My brother spends alot on his OH (more than £500 last year) - he bought her a watch; but he knew she'd wanted it for ages and it made her day. I think it very much depends on the person.:staradmin:starmod: beware of geeks bearing .gifs...:starmod::staradmin:starmod: Whoever said "nothing is impossible" obviously never tried to nail jelly to a tree :starmod:0 -
Well I'm gobsmacked at these huge lists!!
My list is;
Husband; about £40, but don't always bother
kids x 3; getting on for £250 each
my mum and dad; £60 between them
my brother; about £25
Yes, I know it's a huge amount on the kids, but they haven't any cousins, only one set of grandparents and one uncle, so I think we have always tried to make sure they have plenty of parcels!
Of course when they were little it was relatively easy, now they are teenagers and thier needs / wants have changed!
Saying that, they now realise how much things cost, so their requests are
more reasonable!
We are saving up for our first holiday abroad, so warned them not to expect too much anyway!!
BTW; who does stockings for their kids? I'm thinking about knocking it on the head this year. What age did you all stop doing it?
Thanks!0 -
Funnily enough, I was just thinking the other day about what's a sensible amount to spend. Most years I spend around £900 but I'd like to cut it down a bit.
On my list:
Hubby - 250
Mum and Dad - 100 each
Hubby's parents - 120 between them
BIL & SIL - 75 between them
5 friends - about 10-15 on each.
Last year was the first year ever I'd been able to pay it all easily, need to crack on with the ebaying to make sure I'm in the same position this year!0 -
We have 19 adults (parents, siblings and partners, close cousins, uncles & aunts) and 13 children (including our own three) to buy for.
The adults don't have a budget, but I try to stay under £5 - we put together hampers, usually home baking/preserves from me and hubby, crafts etc from the kids, and perhaps a token 'real' present (this year the hampers are all based around cook books I got from the Book People earlier this year - work out at less than a pound each).
As for the kids - our own three have a budget of £65 each, plus a further £10 for stockings. The rest of them have about £10-£15 each budgeted.
However, by the time you take Pigsback, Boots etc, and all the various discount codes, into account, I usually end up spending about half of that in real terms.
I love planning and organising everything - I'm just waiting on a couple of deliveries this week, and the buying is done - overall RRP of £710, cash spent £350 (before taking Quidco and catalogue commissions into account). That also includes a, pretty big, new baby hamper I'm putting together for my best friend who's due before Christmas.
Oh, and I haven't forgot OH up there, lol - we allow £10 each - usually end up either buying something simple like a posh box of chocolates, or doing something for the whole family anyway.DFW Nerd no. 884 - Proud to [strike]be dealing with[/strike] have dealt with my debts0 -
