We buy presents for about 40 people (including 4 x "joint" presents for 4 couples), and it varies how much we spend on each person. If you ignore parents (we are both only children, and tend to spend a bit more on our parents because we like to buy them several bits and pieces each, so spend more on them than most of the other people on our list), it probably averages out at about £10 per person. However, this fluctuates wildly as I shop throughout the year to get the best bargains in sales, etc, and we always choose the present with "would the person like it?" as our first priority, rather than "does this fit within our £10 budget?". Obviously, we wouldn't go mad and spend silly amounts, but if, for example, we see something we think if perfect for somebody at £15 or £20, we wouldn't write it off as impossible straight away...quite often it balances out because we will pick up something in a sale for somebody else for under £5, so its swings and roundabouts for us!
I would say overall we spend about £600 on presents. I realise this probably seems a lot to most people, but we use John Lewis vouchers from Pigsback, Boots points and WHSmith points and we also save throughout the year. Vouchers and points usually make up £200-250 of this amount and the rest is spent in cash. None of it goes onto credit cards - it is all paid for in advance of Christmas out of savings, and we enjoy giving these presents, so we are OK with this amount.

Have to buy for:
Oh £30
My 2 year old son £70-£100
Mum £30
stepdad £20
Nan £20
3 sisters £10 each
3 brothers £10 each
sisters husband £5
my niece £10
uncle £10
uncles girlfriend £5
stepdads mum and dad £5-£10 (basket to share)
ohs mum £20-£30
ohs dad £10-£15
ohs 2 brothers £5-£10 each
2 brothers girlfriends £5 each
ohs niece £10
ohs nephew £5-£10
3 friends £5 each
4 of friends children £5 each
2 of ohs friends children £5 each
erm think thats it! What i will roughly spend on each is next to their nameI also buy a £1 present each from my son on top of their main pressie. I must admit we do tend to spend more on my family as ohs family is not really as family orientated as mine and christmas isnt such a big thing to them. I think its because their 3 boys have grown up but my mum still has 4 kids under 16 at home
