Still BS. Link to a garage that will do oil and filter for £25.

Come on, to be fair the type of garage that'll do an O&F for £25 don't normally have a webpage.

Wouldn't the proper oil & genuine filter cost more than £25?

Possibly wouldn't cost the garage that at bulk trade price. After adding in various overheads then yes. As a private purchase oil and filter would be from £25 upwards depending on spec.

My Golf is 4 years old (45k miles) and today I took it to a VW dealership for a Major Service.
It has never had it's pollen filter, air filter and spark plugs changed before so I was expecting them to be replaced.

Our major service will help your car run smoothly. The recommended service interval is every 24 months or 20,000 miles (whichever comes first).

Prices from: £329 for models up to and including 2.0 litre engines and £399 for Touareg.

It includes: Oil & filter change. Replace pollen filter. Replace air filter. Spark plugs (petrol engine) or fuel filter (diesel engine). Remove wheels and check brakes. Check/adjust tension of all drive belts. Check gearbox oil level. Check final drive oil level. Vehicle inspection and report to include all lights, instruments, bodywork, glass, locks, battery, coolant levels, drive belts, braking system, steering, hoses, drive shafts, suspension and exhaust system. Full vehicle road test. Diagnostic check including report. Re-set service interval display. Volkswagen stamp in service book.

Upon checking my service checklist, I can see they have inspected the air filter, pollen filter and spark plugs but did not replaced them as they weren't required. So basically I paid £329 for an oil change and a VW stamp.

Do you think I should complain?

If you think that is expensive, wait till next years service when it will need a cambelt change. Another example of VAG bad engineering, taking cost cutting one step too far and making their customers pay!

Actually VW price match so paid a huge amount less than the headline price for the cambelt change.

My other VW has a chain, no cost there...

Not sure what your point is?

    Cheers

Changing spark plugs on time only is mad, no way does an unused spark plug deteriorate as unused oil can. Just another money spinner.
Lovely, right up until the point you finally need to change them on mileage, but can't because they're rusted into the threads.

    No.

Mann filter for VW Golf on GFS, £4.

5l of oil for £21? Easy.

You would have to be a sap to pay £42 at National for an oil change for a VW Golf as suggested by someone earlier.

Good point and one I feel can be avoided by taking them out and checking every couple of years?
My sparplugs are due to be changed as it's been 4 years (although mileage has only passed 1/4th of the quoted 40,000 iirc miles interval). I took them out and checked them and they seem to be fine, although I did order some in and was very close to changing them. Because the plugs are longlife (not exactly cheap) I decided to leave them in.

Do you just pluck these numbers out of your head? On GSF the cheapest filter for the OP's car is £10 and the oil is over £50. Even with one of their regular discount codes this is not £25.
