Vodafone Upgrade

Hi everyone

Last year (August 2016) I upgraded to the iPhone 6S Plus 16gb (big mistake). After attempting to return it, many weeks of promises of a returns pack would arrive but never did, I decided to keep it.

Over the past few weeks I've noticed within my account, informing me I could upgrade for some reason, I know not why? Since August 2016 according to them.

After a couple of brief online chats today, I questioned this, and was informed I could definitely upgrade due to having my number disconnected and reconnected. I never requested this to occur. But according to them it has 'benefitted' me. I never even knew they did such a thing, but my account and number has been active under Vodafone for many years.

I was told do not worry about this, there will be no hidden charges nor early upgrade fees. Nor will I have to pay for 2 tariffs under one number.

Do I be as carefree as they recommend I be? I took them up on the offer and opted for a S7 Edge.

After questioning what to do with the old phone, this is mine to do whatever I want with...

I have all the chat transcripts as evidence anyhow.

Christine initiated and dealt with the upgrade. I then double checked with Rakesh, whom backed up everything Christine did, as above board.

Keep the transcripts. Methinks you'll need them when the hell starts.

Just watch out that your early upgrade hasn't given you a stupidly long new contract! It's hidden in their Ts&Cs that remaining contract time is added onto any new contract taken out. E.g. Contract start date: February. Early upgrade in December. New contract end date APRIL the following year...

If your August 2016 contract was 24 months and your new one is also 24 months this could make it run for 43 months!!!

This happened to me but a quick chat with Retentions (by phone...when I eventually got passed through...) managed to kinda sort this. The app still
Shows the old (extended) end date but logging into the website shows the corrected (shorter contract) end date...so will wait and see what happens in 12 months!

They kept reiterating the contract is only for 24 months and don't do anything beyond this, but I can check up and see what my new contract end date is...

If it is beyond January 2019, they can shove it.

I guess my new contract isn't showing as live yet, but on live chat it still is showing as 22 August 2016 end date.

From the Vodafone Ts & Cs (note that this was never "discussed" with me by any of the live chat folk!)
If you request an upgrade or a renewal of your agreement and we agree to this, you’ll need to agree to a new minimum period (in addition to any remaining minimum period of your existing agreement at the time of upgrade) and you’ll need to pay the new charges applicable to that agreement. We will discuss this with you when you are eligible to upgrade or renew your agreement.

According to Naina on live chat,

    To quote:

So your contract end date will be 10/Jan/2019

I shall be keeping copies of these transcripts.

    Here's my transcript:
ME: Would that be a 12 month contract?
    Alex:
    Yes

    Alex:
But this would have a flex upgrade date, so you can upgrade to a new handset and/or plan at any point during this free of charge

ME: Fabby that doesn't sound too bad at all. My number, etc would stay the same yeah?
    Alex:
Yeah the only thing which changes is the plan

    Alex:
Your bill date etc stays as it is

    Yet...

I would say this though for the transcripts - ALWAYS type something unique into the chat. It makes it much easier for other employees to find the chat and see what you actually signed up for.

When the UK (Web Help Ltd contracted to Vodafone) saw the chat and the error with the end date it was amended. I am a bit concerned that the app still shows the old date although it is only a few extra months...

Why the chats don't get a reference number is beyond me.
