I just don't use Cortana, why do I need to do anything else?
Same here, Cortana is hidden, never shows on my taskbar, tho I could call it up it if wanted. I just never want.

Did you read any of those search results? On a quick perusal, most of them seemed to be saying the opposite to what you're claiming - that only tin-foil-hat wearers had any real concerns. ;)

Your stress levels must be sky high....If you think they are 'Evil' you must be crapping yourself over the Governments efforts....:rotfl:

Not that you will be interested, but, from today (10th, Time unknown) you should be able to log into your MS account and go to the new 'Privacy' dashboard to see what info is there and clear anything you want. A bit like you can with a Google account.
In the spring they will introduce new privacy settings, via the creators update, making the privacy options more transparent during set up.
There will only be two levels of data collection from then as well. 'Basic' and 'Full', in 'Basic' mode only data that’s vital to Windows 10’s operation will be collected. This will help keep apps secure, updated, and reliable, with only basic error reporting.

Edge is just a web browser like Chrome, Firefox, Opera, Safari, etc. If it is evil then so are all the others. Chrome would be more evil as if you are logged into a Google account it will be sending loads of info to Google.

    From EULA :
To enable Cortana to provide personalized experiences and relevant suggestions, Microsoft collects and uses various types of data, such as your device location, data from your calendar, the apps you use, data from your emails and text messages, who you call, your contacts and how often you interact with them on your device.
Cortana also learns about you by collecting data about how you use your device and other Microsoft services, such as your music, alarm settings, whether the lock screen is on, what you view and purchase, your browse and Bing search history, and more.”

    ALSO :
We will access, disclose and preserve personal data, including your content (such as the content of your emails, other private communications or files in private folders), when we have a good faith belief that doing so is necessary to protect our customers or enforce the terms governing the use of the services.

I used https://www.oo-software.com/en/shutup10 to turn off Cortana and a host of other snoop stuff when somebody posted about it here ayear or so back. Each major update sneaks stuff back on so I rerun it periodically and after every major update.

It does what it claims to. Whether that means MS know less about me than they otherwise would I really don't know but it hasn't broken anything for me.
