Candy Telecom Sim Only

  • Hi ripplyuk, I bailed for the very same concerns that you have yourself. Some bad feedback on FB and an apparent reluctance towards scrutiny advised my better self to take advantage of the safeguards built into the Distance Buying regulations, (despite the cooling off period being 14 days it is stated as 7 days in their T&C's.) Too many 'little' things that increase the 'risk' beyond what I am willing to accept I'm afraid.
  • I ordered a SIM for this £6 deal on 27th dec.
I still have not received the SIM.
I sent candy a few messages/emails and no response.
Their online chat seems to be disabled so only message/emails can be used for comms as they have no published phone nuumber.

I guess they could be inundated with orders and not able to process, but they should email out to let people know there will be delays.

    AVOID this MVNO for now.

Its website https://www.candytelecom.co.uk was recently suspended for a while now up and running again.
  • They used to have a phone number to contact that I found embedded in their website source:
    "telephone":"+0800 088 63 67",
Calling this number I get a generic message telling me that it's disabled.
Given that candy telecom used to provide landline/broadband services too and they no longer do I see this a a big warning sign and indicator that this is a company that died or is in the process of dying...
  • I also have not received a sim - has anyone?
  • Me neither, I ordered at end of December but have received nothing.

I did get responses to my emails which told me it must have been lost in the post and they would resend.

I notice Broadband Choices after recommending them have now removed the Candy Telecom page from their website

Not holding out much hope here.....
  • I've had exactly the same issue. Charged me twice and still no sim after 2 weeks, me thinks it a scam
  • Same problem here, I think it's a scam. Charged twice and no sign of a sim. Despite attempts to contact them via every conceivable channel not a single response.
  • I ordered the sim, they took £6 from my credit card, didn't deliver anything, didn't reply to any emails. It's a scam. I have sent them an email saying I want to cancel my order and asking them to refund the £6. Heard nothing from them, so I've contacted my credit card company.
  • I have two of their £6 sim only deals with 2GB data (the deal through broadbandchoices.co.uk) - I ordered them just before Christmas and the sim cards arrived very quickly. I ported my old numbers and activated the sims just after Christmas - there were some delays due to the holidays (Vodafone's fault rather than theirs), but otherwise worked fine. I am getting 4G on both sims with Vodafone.

Before I signed up, I felt that there was insufficient information that the initial £6 you pay was the cost of the sim itself, and not the first payment, but I can live with that as the price is still competitive. However, I have tried to contact the company on a few occasions and never get a reply. The only way I managed to get anything from them was to send a DM via Facebook, when they responded very quickly. Their FB page is @CandyTelecom. Looking today, there are posts about a batch of missing sims...

The downside for me is that you don't have an account that you can log into as with other providers, which feels slightly uncomfortable. So you can't see your payments, calls you've made, data used, etc. And the lack of communication from them also leaves me with a bad feeling. However, I guess I am now locked in for 12 months (if I want to avoid paying the £20 leaving fee), but I'm not convinced I will stay with them in the future.
