Candy Telecom Sim Only

Does anyone have any knowledge of this company whatsoever please? They are offering an unlimited sim which seems frankly rediculous, because I am sure if it was a hassle free deal this site would be positively buzzing about it. Unlimited mins, texts and 2gb 4g on the back of Vodafone, 30 day contract, £6 a month? Anyone?

A relatively new web based MVNO running on Vodafone. No customer service voice contact available.. Charges you £20 fee if you leave them in year one apparently.

£14 a month for the tariff you mention according to website . Where do you get the £6 a month from. https://www.candytelecom.co.uk

They are selling the £14 deal for £6, thanks for your reply. I have looked for the £20 fee for leaving, but I can't find it in the T&C's, but it certailly looks well worth the risk.

Unsure if they will honour their promises, but from what it displays on the link (via broadband choices)
    Does look tempting!

What's bad about Candy Telecom mobile?
Not the cheapest mobile provider around
Out-of-plan charges are very expensive - 41p per minute and 26p per text, at the time of writing
No add-ons or bolt-ons available if you exceed your allowance
    No contracts on handsets available
Lowest data tariff you can get is 2GB per month - not the best value for light users
£20 cancellation charge if you've had your plan for less than a year

  • Okay, I had to go for it. Everything seems to have went through simply enough, although their 'may' be an issue if you want to keep your existing number but as I am happy for this to change it is not an issue for me. Basically, I am not going to cancel my existing SIM until I know everything is ticketyboo. NB This reluctance is based on nothing more than the adage "If it seems to good to be true...." Happy new year???

I'd be interested to know if their data speed is capped if you could update here, cheers.
  • No probs, but to be honest, I virtually never use t'internet on my mobile. Truth is, I probably only go through 3-500 mins and a couple of hundred texts in a month. It's a 30 day rolling contract, so what is there to lose?

Thanks for that link boatman, but despite a couple of surprises I still cannot really find fault. I do admit that I didn't check out the T&C's too forensically, TBH at £6 pm, I'm not particularly bothered. The 6 months in advance could be an issue as my DD stipulates £6 pm, so surely they will have to specifically come back and ask me for it? It's still only £36 and the £20 cancellation charge in the first 6 months should not be a problem if they stick to their end. As with all of these policies, (Plusnet appear to be better than most), going out with your allocation is the main concern and with unlimited minutes and texts where is the problem? I only use t'internet on my mobile on occasion for looking up addresses, phone numbers and street maps if my sat nav ever fails me. As with all such contracts the individual has to be honest with themselves as to what they genuinely need. As a post script, can I just say that I am of an age when the phone was akin to owning your own airplane and more recently, I can remember when a minute on a mobile was about 25-30p for everyone. Thanks again for the link.

I was excited when I saw this deal on the mse email. The Vodafone network is the only one that gets a decent signal where I am but I'd rather avoid Vodafone itself so I'm with Talkmobile, pay as you go. It's costing more than I'd like and this Candytelecom deal looked better but after reading some of the comments on the hotdeals link, I'm too nervous to switch.

A few people seemed to end up being charged more than £6 and there's something about the 'usual' price being around £13/14. Some issues with porting numbers over too. There's also a worry with all these mvno's that they will suddenly go out of business, but particularly a small new one.

I think I'll wait until there's more feedback about them.

pocketslint, have you any updates on how it's going for you? Or, has anyone else tried them?
