Finally getting sorted

I've been here before and always managed to run up huge debts again. If I'm honest I don't really know where the money has gone and have nothing to show for it. I could use my health and diagnosis as an excuse but at the end of the day I'm 30. I've done this no one else and I need to sort it.
I have three debts. A credit card a bank loan and car finance. For now I am ignoring the car finance. I need the car to be able to do my job and because of previous health issues would be unable to manage without it.
I have hidden the credit card ( so well I can't find it) and the aim is not to put anything else on it. The plan is to get rid of it completely but at the moment I have very few savings so need it for an emergency.
The loan has 38 months left to pay. I have been overpaying it but only by small amounts.
Ideally i would like to pay of the credit card whilst still slowly overpaying the loan.
I work full time although am off at the moment as lost my footing on the ice at the beginning of the week and hurt my back ( I'm a community carer) I'm not due back at work until Thursday. I will probably ring them Monday though and say I'm ready to go bac.
I looked at getting a 0% credit card but was not accepted so really need to get this paid off.
This is probably really boring so I'm sorry but I'm hoping by keeping track of things here I can see progress being made. My main aim for 2017 is clear the credit card and not run up any more debts.

Good luck with getting debt free. Hope this is your year." Your vibe attracts your tribe":D

Off out this morning. Don't need anything but no doubt will see something I want. Have £20 and the plan is to come home with that intact so fingers crossed. Have started my sealed pot for my change that I'm saving towards Christmas.
Will try and post a list of my debts and payments/ my plan later0 -
£20 still in tact although need petrol ready for going back to work Thursday. Thinking about taking £170 out of my account and dividing it up to last till payday. Shouldn't really need anything have loads of books that I pay 10p for at the charity shop. Have cans of pop in the boot for when I'm working so I don't keep going to the shops.
I have amazon prime for TVs and music. I know it's £7.99 a month but I went to the cinema Boxing Day with my mum and it was nearly £30. My mum has my amazon log in and my sister does so saves in the long run.
Have 34 hours at work in four days not including paid travel time and mileage and hopefully pick up more hours next week. Work also have some money for me as a patient had no food a few weeks ago so I went and got them some. Think it's £7 something so will probably stick it in the savings tin.
Not ordered anything from eBay or amazon and not used the credit card.
17 days till pay day0 -
You can do it
Try surveys that way you can still treat yourself with things from Amazon with vouchers from the surveysx

Had a spendy few days but still have money in my purse so not over budget. The shopping did include petrol so I can work. Just realised although I was out a lot today it has been a NSd and I found 5p in the car which has been added to the sealed pot. Waiting for a refund from amazon for £8 so will round it up to £10 and pay it of the credit card.
Discovered the credit card has 18% interest and the minimum payment only takes £30 of the total so really need to start overpaying. Back to work tomorrow from 0700 till 2130 so shouldn't have time to spend money.
Sat here thinking and I'm sure I've messed up my budget somewhere basically between now and next Friday I have £35 in my purse really only need petrol and working everyday until next weekend so should be ok.
Still not used the credit card so no new debt. Work have some money in the safe waiting for me and sold something on Facebook that's being collected Sunday so another £12 that I will either pay of the card or put in my sealed tin0 -
1) Welcome back to the DFW boards
2) Well done for admitting responsibility and not looking for excuses was to your position
3) How's the back?
4) Don't apply for a 0% card again. I don't think it will do you good knowing a bit about your history.
Do you log down on paper or a spreadsheet your daily spends? That's what I do. Do you have a debit card which you can pay contactless with? I do that for EVERYTHING I can. Then, and only then can I account for every penny. When you pay in cash, the odd thing can slip in the basket, you remember having £20 in your purse but can't then remember what it went on.

Hi. Thanks for replying. The back is getting there thank you. Am going back to work so fingers crossed it stays ok.
I don't have a contactless card although am due a new one in the next month or so.
I don't log everything but have started to give myself a weekly amount. It is probably more than most but I get everything including petrol for work.
I use cash as when I hand over the card I don't think of it as money so I'm hoping that only having x amount in my purse will make me think before I spend.
15 days till payday :T0 -
Still four patients left to see. No spend day so far though and can't see me stopping anywhere before the end of my shift. ,managed to pick up an extra 40 min visit at lunch so that's a few more pennies to the credit card. Think my refund from amazon has turned up but account won't update online until midnight but will pay another £10 of the credit card. Until the other day I didn't realise how much interest I am paying. Am determined not to use it in the future and to get it paid off asap.0

Hello
Good luck with your debt busting:). I aim to do the same, I don't think I will get it all paid off this year (unless I become a hermit and live off value beans on toast) but hope to clear a good chunk£15900 loan (including interest) over 3.5 years to pay off...can I do it sooner???

Even if I lived off value beans I wouldn't manage to clear it this year. Didn't take me long to run up the debt but is going to take a while to shift.
If I could just not add to it and get rid of the credit card I will be getting somewhere0
