saving info unto m,emory stick

I have a 7 year old laptop that I'm trying to transfer 337 MB of data unto my new lappy. I bought a 1gb memory stick, but when I insert it the old lappy doesn't recognise it. There is no floppy on the new lappy and no DVD drive on the old lappy. Can anyone tell me how I can get the data unto the memory stick or a different method I can use to transfer the data?

Thanks

Which OS? If it is pre-XP you'll need to install the USB drivers for the memory stick.

You should have received drivers with the memory stick, ie on a cd. If not then you need to get the drivers from the manufacturer's website.

Ethernet crossover cable, if your laptops have LAN/ethernet/network sockets. Can you not get hold of the memory stick drivers?

Beware when getting the cable that you get the right one. There is almost no visible difference between a normal ethernet and a crossover cable, except maybe some small writing on the cable.

Plenty on ebay, no need to pay more than £1 excluding postage:

  • Hi guys, I'm still stuck on this one I'm afraid! I got an ethernet cable, but there is no connection for it on my old laptop! I've looked on the net for a driver for the memory stick, but no joy there either. The stick is a digimate 1GB memory stick. Can anyone point me in the right direction for the driver or suggest another method to transfer 337 MB from a very old laptop unto a new laptop?

    Thanks

ps thanks for the efforts of the above posters. My thanks button still doesn't seem to work so can't thank you properly!

USB Portable flash driver. Install this on your 98 laptop.
