Well done for recognising it and nipping it in the bud!1

Well done for noticing that you needed to not fall back into old habits. The very fact you did that shows fantastic progress that you have made.1

16yo has got a job! He's a runner at Wetherspoons so yesterday I took him to open his own bank account.
I've told him I'll be taking 10% of his wages which he is very miffed at this and complaining none of his friends parents do this. In my day it was the norm. I've checked with a few of my friends and all say this was the way. When did this stop? I'm not taking the money to keep for myself but to pop into his savings account. Although I've not told him that 🙂

I paid a set amount of board when I started work at 16. It wasn’t put away for me, it was just towards my keep. Probably to make up for the loss of child benefit. I know I got away with less than my friends 🙂Not all who wander are lost - J.R.R.Tolkien

I always had a contribution from my daughter. I think it make youngsters realise that life costs money and the small amount that most parents get is nothing to what they will pay when they move out and probably wont have such a comfortable lifestyle as at home.

Thanks @ladyholly and @WinterWarrior I know he's not earning much but I just think if he gets used to putting 10% straight away it's not going to kill him. I've also told them both when they are 18 they take over their phone contracts too.
At 18 I worked full time, lived independently, paid bus pass, food and driving lessons on £4k a year! Fair enough it was 30 years ago but I still had to live within my means.Credit Cards NOV 2019 £33,220.42 Sept 2023 £19,951.00 Tilly Tidy 20223/COLOR] Sept £43.71 Here's my diary: A Ditherer's Diary Again0 -
So 16yo has done his first shifts. He's realised that he's on his feet running around for 6hours! 🤣
I had a lovely day yesterday, went down to Portsmouth with the 11yo to visit my bestie and her 12yo. Spent most of the day in the garden drinking tea and just catching up. We walked to McDonald's for lunch which was just over two miles there and back. Today my shins hurt. This is why I can't run.😥
Today is all about the housework. Once I finish my coffee! 🤣 I didn't wake up till 10am but I couldn't sleep last night so didn't actually get into bed until 1am.
