HOW MUCH???? E-On Energy!

Hi All,

Moved into a new property 1st December, sorted energy etc etc out the day we moved in.

Low an behold Bill lands in my inbox £115........

We are only electric no gas, in a 2 bedroom flat, there's 2 of us myself and the missus, we're both out throughout the day, only use minimal energy at night, but we do have storage heaters, but they only get switched on late at night.

Spoke to E-on and they were as helpful as a chocolate fireguard.

Is this about right or am I being stung??

Really wasn't expecting £115 a month just for electric.

Cheers
Rob

    Correct moving in read ?
Correct or estimated billed read ?
    Your meter being read ?
E7 reads the correct way round ?
If on standard variable then £115 is quite easily possible for a month in winter.

    Hi bluerob9000,

The first thing to check is to make sure the account is billed up to accurate meter reads.

Also have a look at the tariffs online check you're on the best one for your needs. You may also like to have a look at the comparison sites to compare the whole market.

Are you on an economy 7 tariff? As you have storage heaters this is normally the most beneficial.

Unfortunately electric heating can be quite expensive and the bills will be higher as you'll be using the heating at this time of year.

You may prefer to have a Direct Debit, with us paying this way offers a standing charge reduction and it means you can even the payments out throughout the year.

I'd also suggest thinking about how you heat the hot water and other appliances you have, an immersion heater for example can cost quite a lot if left on.

I'm here to help as much as I can, I'm sorry we didn't offer more support when you called.

    Thank you

  • Yep, both readings were correct at move in time and when i submitted the readings. The readings were wrong but i sorted that and it was a saving of a whole £4.

The meter readings were first estimated but i updated them so they are correct. Tariff is E.ON Energy Fixed 1 Year v20 and it has prices for the 2 rates itemised on the bill.

We already pay via direct debit. We don't use the boiler or very very limited use, if we want hot water it's only for washing up so we just boil the kettle.
  • But we live in an upstairs flat above a retired couple and they are in most days, but they are using less energy than us? How does that work? We only have light usage.

I'm currently doing tests on the meter to see how it is reading, as e-on won't send an engineer out to check it.

Your meter being read ?In flats the meters are often confused, are you certain it is your meter.
E7 reads the correct way round ?Another easily confused item. Check this.

How many day and night units did you use in the period ? If they do send an engineer and there is no fault they will bill you around £80.

Yes I've checked it's the correct meter, our meter is at the opposite side of the house compared to the downstairs one.

I'm testing the meter to see what energy is being used throughout the day with everything turned off to see if it still records energy being used. Before I ask again for an engineer.

    463 units Day
    485 units Night

No, it's always off at the switch.

High day use and low(ish) night use considering storage heating - a small NSH can use 12kWh a night, a large one 24. Are you using panel heaters or possibly convectors on the storage heaters ?
