It is quite costly, and there is no guarantees that a website will be successful and get viewers. But I like the idea of focusing on something I like and being able to work my own hours.

Any website owners here want to give their thoughts?

What exactly would your website be for, no one can really say how successful something is likely to be unless they have a rough idea who it is aimed at and what revenue stream you envisage.

Are you selling something, getting people to sign up for something ?

The fact is - to get those viewers you'll have to do a lot of self promotion, or know somebody who has a huge following that "shares" what you write.

The trouble is that you have in your mind what you want to do (sit and write something about X), but you can easily find that you're actually piggy backing on a fad/fashion because that boosts your readership/income.

eg let's say you like making dresses to wear for yourself .... so you write each one up. Then, one day, you suddenly get a lot of traffic and realise that it's come because you mentioned Amazon Rain Forest Gossamer Thread in making swan shaped head scarves ..... trouble is, you mentioned it once ... and you have no access to it and it costs £100/metre to buy. But you have viewers. So now you're "stuck" - do you go back to 10 views/day whittering about your dresses.... or do you write specifically to tap into that special thread trend, making a gazillion swan shaped head scarves with the expensive thread to keep getting the 5,000 views/day?

    The tail wags the dog.....
  • If by website you mean blog then you need to work out what your an expert at. You then need to be able to write, write and then write some more about your chosen subject. Things take time to grow and you have to think about it as more of an investment that may or may not pay off in the future.
I have several blogs and my newest one is about matched betting, something I have honed as a skill and can write about. I monetise with affiliate links and have covered the next few years costs three fold within 4 months, so the money and potential is there if you have the time and motivation. Good luck if you decide to try it

I'm hoping some of you experts can give me some ideas or point me in the right direction.

I'm desperately trying to clear my debts and have been on a DMP for 8 years now. I feel like I'm getting nowhere. I've actually got myself into more of a mess with my rent and my next call is to my DMP company to see what I can do from that end to help with the rent arrears I need to now pay - all came about because of an overpayment in housing benefit which was my fault. I thought it went on the same basis as tax credit and was based on income from the year before and by the time I realised and told them about my change in income it meant I'd been overpaid by just over £500.

I'm self employed and in my 3rd year of trading so still early days that way in terms of me upping that income.

I've been looking at ways to increase my income online as I have children and need to be around for them. I am doing swagbucks which I like and I am getting £5 every couple of weeks from that. I've also signed up to Pinecone and got £3 here and there but I feel that there surveys are few and far between.

Are there any brilliant ones that are quicker or even apps that I can use that are good to make a little bit extra each week? Or any online working that anyone knows of that is flexible? I would consider anything at this point just so that I can get rid of this debt as I'm so worried about it.

I'd be so grateful for any advice or opinions on what works well.
    Total Debt: £5257.32
    Goal to be rid of:
    May: Next/YourPlan - £169.61
    June: Vanquis - £258.51
    July: Paypal - £249.01

You could get work with Appen, they offer roles working online. I am doing their Social Media evaluation on Facebook and that pays around £20 an hour.

If you've got a bit of spare time Qmee is quite good, I made over £30 in January from their surveys.

I've made £39.62 already in March from Qmee which I've taken in Amazon gift cards, for very little effort I might add :)

Thanks for suggesting these. I've not heard of either but I'm going on now to have a look. I work from home so do have a bit of time as I save on traveling so these could be good for me.

  • Prolific Academic, the best survey site IMO. Qmee always have plenty of surveys and you can cash out after each one. Curious Cat is a mobile app one with cash out from £1.

Some of my other faves are Opinium research, Yoursaypays, Onepoll and Branded Surveys.

    Good luck :)

Have you tried PopulusLive? Its the highest paying survey site in the UK. They pay £1 per minutes. There are usually about 3 or 4 surveys per week.

Thanks again guys - I've downloaded some of the apps and signed up online to ones I hadn't heard of before and I guess it will be trial and error for which ones I like.
