you will see immediate returns doing matched betting and survey sites, of which prolific is king.
realistically, don't expect to be earning more than £100-£150 a month, depending on how much effort you can put into both activities.
Beyond that, you could look at medical trials
Switching bank accounts
selling things on ebay...

If you have a lot of free time you could also try mystery shopping. You won't make much but it might help a bit. If you look at the make £2017 thread you will get an idea of how much people get from various activities.0

Hello Martie.
Did you look at this section on cheap train tickets? Especially to see if you can split your tickets.

Hi,
In your hometown do you rent? or live with parents or own a home? If by chance you own I would take a lodger.
I wonder if it would be cheaper for you to try to find 2 nights a week regular lodgings, I used to have a 3 night a week lodger myself - perhaps a colleague would be glad of an extra £40/50 a week which lowers your expenses a little? Otherwise go to spareroom.com.
If you work 30 hours and need two nights I assume that's long shift work? Could you maybe drive a cab at weekends? Does your work involve a skill you could utilise on the side? Weekend care work? Bar work?
If you give us an idea of your skills it may be easier to give more advice, sometimes a fresh pair of eyes can see things better.0 -
Hi, I work 30 hours about 70 miles from where I live, simply because there's no work doing what I do in my town.
The easy, glib answer is to either (a) do something else, so you can do it in your town, possibly for more hours or a better rate, or (b) move to another town where the work is more easily available. But of course it is not that simple in the real world.
So as @mikep22 said above, you first need to have a read around on here at the various ways that people are making extra money, and figure out which of those might be suitable for you, and go from there. While you're at it, also read up on the various scams that are targeting people in your situation, those "buy my £30 eBook and learn how do to xxx to triple your income", that kind of stuff, and make sure you don't fall for them. If you're working 30 hours a week, could you get a part-time job in your town that might just bring in a bit extra while you search for something else?0 -
Sorry,am really confused! I've no idea how my post ended up on this thread as I thought I'd started a new one!?
Anyway, the work I do is not an option in the town I work so I really do have to travel, or take a job locally that really doesn't utilise my skills/knowledge etc., even thought I live in a big town etc.
I will follow the suggestions and do some more research etc. Thanks0 -
Yes, it's now worth me moving because I totally love where I live (in a rural part of a big town) and am on a 2 year fixed contract and the type of work I do is quite specialist and I never know where the opportunities are going to be (which is frustrating as hell and I almost wish I did something else but I'm 50 and it's what I know etc.) Also, my kids live close by and I don't want to be too far away from them. Just need to keep exploring options etc. Thanks0

I rent where I live and don't want to share with anyone where I work (I guess I'm just one of those 'private' types). I do a day from home and 3 days away so the 30 hours are doable. Also, the job and area where I work are fantastic and it's an opportunity I simply couldn't turn down. It's just that it's only 30 hrs and it costs me, which, to be honest, I'm seeing as an investment.
I just need to boost my income somehow bit have had some excellent suggestions on here:)0 -
Hi, the thing is that I love what I do but simply have to go where the work is so am kind of happy with the situation (is all a bit of an adventure to be honest!) And it's just not worth me moving, mainly because I love my home and have settled there after much upheaval a few years ago (divorce). And thanks for the other tips.
I guess the other difficulty I have is that if I work at weekends I won't get to see my kids so a trick situation.
I'm going to have to have a really good look at how others supplement their incomes and see what I can come up with:)0 -
It is quite costly, and there is no guarantees that a website will be successful and get viewers. But I like the idea of focusing on something I like and being able to work my own hours.
Any website owners here want to give their thoughts?0
