Thanks Kirsty & redo,
Poor little cat survived the night & we thought she might make it but she died this afternoon.
I went to see her at the vets afterwards & she was all wrapped up in blankets with a wee jumper on. I know the vet & nurses did everything they could & gave her lots of love and cuddles before she went so I'm glad of that because she loved cuddles.
We're both feeling pretty sad just now, she was only 3 so very young to die and we really thought she could recover.
Old cat is very confused & down as little cat was his particular friend, he has already survived 2 other feline friends (cancer & kidney failure respectively). He is following me about everywhere. Big cat is sticking close to us & even sat on my knee earlier, which he hardly ever does, so think he knows something is wrong.

Hi all,
Thanks for your kind messages, just feeling very tired & flat today.DH got up and found all the cat blankets & bedding all over the floor where the cats sleep, we think that old cat pulled them all out looking for little cat.
Could just cry at the thought of it, I always wonder if they know or not.
He is very down and not himself and big cat is just confused.
Wondering if her more aggressive behaviour recently i.e. biting me so badly my finger got infected, was a symptom & that she was in pain.We should have taken her to the vet when we suspected she'd eaten things she shouldn't have. So hard. She seemed ok but cats are so good at hiding symptoms/illness that it's difficult to tell when they're not right, hindsight is a wonderful thing.
Need to organise getting her body dealt with, we cremated our previous 2 cats so will probably do the same with little cat. Will probably add another £100 or so to the final bill. Settled with the vet yesterday for £700, will sort out a BT to my CC soon. A bit less than I thought actually, it's always hard to have a big bill but you don't mind so much if the cat is still alive at the end of it. This time we have a big bill & no cat. Also need to arrange collecting her cat carrier, heat pad & bedding, will probably do that next week.
I'm glad I went to see little cat's body to say goodbye. One of our previous girls had to be PTS with kidney failure after being at emergency/out of hours vet & then transferred to our own vet the next day. As it was an emergency we weren't with her (didn't want her to suffer) but I've always regretted not being with her or at least going to see her body and that was years ago now. Still very upsetting.Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts. Car loan 1 £11,174, Car loan 2 £5,532, CC 0% BT £780. I think cats can experience grief just like humans, when we have unfortunately lost cats on the road outside we have brought their bodies in to the back garden for our other cats to see and sniff whereas when our cats have just gone missing the others wander about calling and looking for them.
Its so sad to see.
I don't think you could have done any more for your little cat, logic says that cats would only chew and swallow what they can fit in their mouths which are tiny so you wouldn't have thought foreign objects would be big enough to cause issues whereas if it was a dog, well they swallow anything and everything and you would expect blockages, in fact one of DH's colleagues dog swallowed an old dishcloth and they didn't realise, it festered inside him until he was really poorly but by the time they opened him up his bowel was so infected there was nothing they could do.
I hope your other cats start feeling a bit better.
I agree that you need to see your cat if it has died and you are not with it, it helps bring closure.0 -
