Hi Nicnak, I like to get my mum a variety of things and try to put some thought into it as she helps me out so much with the kids. I'm lucky in that she seems to like the things I buy her (or is very good at pretending to like them!). It's a shame your mum hasn't appreciated the things you've given her.

I have been melting for most of today and part of yesterday, I'm not good with heat and no air conditioning. I saw some friends yesterday and we sat out in the sun and it was killing me, I'm just not good with the heat and like to go inside after half an hour! 😂 The friends I was with are like lizards and would sit out in the sun forever if they could. It just burns me as I'm so pale so it's not my favourite thing to do. It was good to have a break from the kids though.

I was also drinking cava yesterday and I had such a bad headache. 😣 I remembered that I can't drink more than 2 or 3 glasses of any sparkling wine without getting a thumping headache. I had to take 2 doses of paracetamol (4 hours apart of course) and drink lots of water to get rid of the headache.

Today I took the kids to my mum's house and DS was happy running around the garden whilst DD was quite grumpy because of the heat. DS had really rosy cheeks all day - I had such a fight getting him to let me put his sun cream on, I use a roll on kids one so it's pretty quick and he still screams as though I'm killing him! I worry about him burning as he's strawberry blonde and obviously DD is too young to be in the burning sun, so she had her cream even though she was in the shade. She enjoyed watching the trees in the breeze when she was lying in her pram and was waving her arms and legs, all excited. 😆

My brother & his gf brought my niece and their dog down to visit too so DS was ecstatic - another child to play with, plus a dog. He was a bit worried about the dog at first because he's a lab and DS is only used to small dogs but he soon got over it. The dog is very friendly and isn't bothered by children since he lives with 2. We did have to teach DS not to pull his tail though. 😱

Our house alarm was upgraded today, so once we get invoiced that's the end of my current EF. 😔 I got some more survey money through so paid £15 off my CC BT and £10 off my current CC bill. I'm hoping to be able to pay at least £30 off one of the loans as well.

I'm back at work next Friday for my first KIT day. 😱 I don't think my uniform is going to fit. 🤔 But we're also allowed to wear smart casual stuff so I can get away with wearing something else if I need to.

I deadheaded my climbing rose this evening and tied my sweet peas up to the trellis at the front of the house. The roses are smelling lovely and there are lots of buds which is great. I also got my first yellow courgette and a mini cucumber from the greenhouse. 🥳

I took DD to my sister's house and just her seeing my nephew had a profound effect on her. You could see her looking so happy and just playing even though they were separate together. My sister also said that without my DD being there, he wouldn't be out playing so she was happy too.
I don't cope with the heat well either. I always burn so have to wear factor 50 and still can get burnt. x

  • The first produce of the year is always so exciting. Well done on the courgette and cucumber. If you get a glut of courgettes I discovered a delicious recipe for courgette, lemon and poppy seed cake on the Riverford website.

    Hi Beanie, Nicnak & Honeysuckle.

Thanks for the recipe heads up Honeysuckle, my yellow courgette plant looks set to give us loads of courgettes, so it might come in handy. 😊

The blinking cheeky magpies were back this morning attacking the eggs on the doorstep! 😮 I opened the door and there were pieces of the egg box over the door mat and they had pecked a big hole in the side of an egg again. 😠 The pair of magpies must have been checking all week. 😂 I'll have to get some kind of box or basket for the milkman to put the eggs in because I don't think the birds will give up now that they know there are eggs there every week. 😩

I then saw the same pair of scamps chasing another magpie out of our back garden. They really looked like they were arguing with it. 😂 They chased it to next door's garden and then sat on top of the fence shouting at it, I think they were saying "This is our garden to steal edible stuff from! You can just beat it!".

It's a lot cooler here today and the rain has been pelting down since about half 7 but it's still a bit stuffy. DH has been to work and back and is doing some home brew now. DD is having a nap and DS is watching some tv whilst I'm browsing online/doing some surveys.

Got the nappy wash on and will need to do at least one more wash after that. Should really clean the bathrooms at some point too.

We have magpies here too but they don't seem to eat the things from.the doorstep. Sounds like you've got a right pair!

Hoppy the rabbit sits on the bread to stop the birds eating it though!

We get loads of magpies in our garden they make a right racket. I think your magpies must know which day your eggs are delivered, cheeky things. It was interesting to see a magpie land at our pond with a piece of bread in its mouth, dip it in the water then fly off presumably back to its nest to feed its chicks.

I'm like your friends and will sit out in the sun all day and never burn. I inherited my dad's light olive skin that tans easily, not my mum's fair freckly skin. It used to annoy my mum that all the sun ever did to her was bring out more freckles.

It's still hot and sunny here today but thunderstorms are forecast for later.

Hi Sashybo- your garden sounds lovely particularly the sweet peas- one of my favourites.
Could you leave a note for your milkman to leave the eggs in your paper recycling box which might fettle the magpies!

    Hi Nicnak, SA & janb5. 👋

Janb5, yeah I'm quite gobsmacked at the magpies! I'll definitely need to leave some kind of box out when the eggs are due and a note for the milkman - I think it will need to have a lid in any case. 🤔

I love sweet peas too, I used to help my grampa grow his so always like to have them in my garden. 😊 I definitely inherited my love of gardening from him but I've only got into it properly since we moved into our house 6 years ago as it's the first time we've had a garden, DH & I lived in flats for years.

Nicnak, your rabbit sounds funny, my mum's cat likes to sit in the middle of the bread if there's ever any left out for the birds. 😂 He thinks it's such a cunning plan but the birds just don't come near until he gets fed up and leaves. 😂

SA, the sun just burns me unless I'm very careful, I need to wear at least spf 30 and stay in the shade most of the time and then I might get a very light tan but usually not. 🤷‍♀️ I have a lot of Irish blood so I'm going to blame that. 😆

Had a very lazy day yesterday, I should really try and get something done today. I've got chillies to repot and some verbena too. It's dry outside at the moment but looks like it's going to rain, so we'll see. DS wants to get out into the garden so will need to go out at some point.

I've not exercised for a few days so really should try and do that too, need to get to bed earlier so that I can get up earlier. Have been feeling really drained again this week and I do feel better after exercising. The only bad thing is that exercise makes my knees really achey. 🤔

I made a nice cheese and broccoli pasta last night for the kids from a recipe I found online, it was really quick and tasty. Of course DS refused to touch it although he usually loves pasta. 😩 DD had some and she loved it then she had a small yoghurt so at least she ate some. I'm hoping DS will have some for lunch today as there was loads left over.

Aha  - my paper recycling box has a lid but they don`t in all areas....maybe a box turned upside down would work.
