I forgot to mention yesterday that I picked my first courgette from one of my plants - amazing that we had one ready before the outlaws, as they live in the South of England vs us in the West of Scotland - they nearly always beat us with theirs being ready first. 😂
I've had a bit of a down day today, just feeling totally exhausted and only got the bare, bare minimum done around the house. ☹️
DD isn't herself and has been waking at 2/3am the last few nights, then again at 6:30ish. I think she's either teething again (although she's not dribbly) or going through some kind of growth spurt. Maybe I should up her bottle a bit as she's still on 6ozs. Either way she's not sleeping properly and her naps are quite short during the day too.
DS has 2am parties every few nights as well, just shouting and laughing to himself in his bed. 🤷♀️ 😂 We have to get up to tell him to be quiet! What's he going to be like at 15? 😱
I was telling DS to give my mum's cat peace the other day as he kept harassing him and now DS keeps saying "Give him peace" but it sounds like "Geez peace" 😂 so he sounds like he's speaking proper Glaswegian slang already. I laugh every time he says it. 😂
He also cups his ear every time he hears the motorbike round the corner starting up and says "Mummy, I hear the MOTOBIKE!" and runs to the window to see it zooming past. 😃
He has been hard work again today, I think he hit every single living being in the house today. ☹️ He just laughs when we tell him no because it hurts or he cries hysterically. Poor DD gets it if I can't move her out of the way fast enough, I think it's partly his temper, partly frustration and partly that he likes the reaction it gets but nothing seems to stop him. 🤦♀️
He was escorted up to get ready for bed at quarter to 6 tonight because he was driving me mad. I got him washed and changed then let him watch a wee bedtime programme on the ipad then have a story and cuddle before lights out. He got straight into bed and fell asleep so he must have needed it. Hopefully there won't be any late night/early morning parties as DH is on early shifts so all the night wakings are my job this week. 😭Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts. Sorry to hear you're feeling a bit down, the broken sleep really takes its toll doesn't it?
Hope the little ones had a better night to give you a chance to catch up on sleep x1 -
Thanks Dancing, the kids both woke up about 4:30am, DS was having a party and DD wanted a bottle. They both went back to sleep until 8ish but I'm still feeling really tired. I meant to get up early and do some exercise but just couldn't face it, I'll try to get to bed earlier tonight and get up tomorrow to do it instead.
It's a horrible wet and muggy day here - DS had a run about the garden during one of the dry spells and I made some rice crispie cakes. Haven't done much except washing today, still need to clean the bathrooms and hoover upstairs but I think that might be left for tomorrow to be honest.

I'm not surprised youre having down days, this is really tough for mental health and you have two tiny people to look after and now DH is back in work. I'd be rocking I'm a corner.

If people are honest I think it is fair to say everyone is all over the place.
Some people are just more open about it & I think that's the best way.

Hi Nicnak & Beanie. 👋
Yes this whole situation is tough on everyone in different ways isn't it? Normally I'd get more of a break from the kids by dropping one (or both!) off at my mum's so I could do a bit of shopping or go for a coffee or see my friends for a pub lunch or something.
All things I can't do right now. ☹️ DS loves staying overnight with my mum and she loves having him so that's something else they're missing out on. Oh well.
Nicnak, my cats are furry terrors, Old Cat actually bullies me because he thinks the pecking order in the house is DH, him (Old Cat), Big Cat, me, then DS & DD. 😂
He is Siamese, so very vocal and needy - he will literally stand in front of me and meow/complain until I do what he wants - he's got me well trained. 👀 🤣 He does the same to my sister if she's ever feeding them when we're away but knows better than to try it with my mum.
DH made a version of katsu curry for dinner tonight which was very nice and we used the last portion of coconut rice that I'd frozen. I worked out that when I make the coconut rice it gives us enough for roughly 3 meals which is pretty good. DS loves it as well which is always a plus.
DS was fairly good today although he destroyed another leaf on my poor rhubarb crown. 😩 I take my eyes off him for 10 seconds and he's off destroying everything he can get his hands on - he's pulled loads of the flowers off the honeysuckle and has also been pulling leaves off the potato plants as well. 😭
However he was (mostly) very good with DD today and enjoyed making her laugh when she was sitting in her highchair and bouncy chair. 💕 She just adores him, it's so cute to watch them looking at each other & laughing. DS keeps saying "Friends with baby, baby funny". 😍 Then he usually ruins it by smacking her round the head or something. 🙄 She's actually started pushing him away sometimes when he's being too rough, so she's learning even though he's not.

My two used to play together really well most of the time. They shared a room for the first few years and one day they were playing nicely in there while I got on with the housework. I think DS was about 4 and DD 2. It went very quiet so went to check. DD was in her bed with the duvet over her face, DS was looking sheepish. Then I saw the plastic scissors on the floor, then the hair - DD was hiding because she'd let DS cut off her fringe - every single bit of it. She looked awful and it took forever to grow back.
Your cats sound like mine - she appears from nowhere the minute I get food out.
It's only natural to have down days especially at the moment. I'm the same up one day down the next. I think it's because the situation is so surreal, we've never come across anything like it before and it's affecting our lives in so many ways.
Have a good weekend 😁

Hi all, thanks for dropping in. 👋
Nicnak, yes I think DD will definitely be in charge of the house. 😂
😱 SA, the missing fringe sounds bad. 🤣 It's always a bad sign when kids are too quiet!
Thanks Beanie. 😊
DH finished work early on Thursday so we took the kids to the park for the first time in months. We went to a bigger park rather than our usual one and had a good long walk through the woods and then up to the pond and back through the park.
We were all exhausted by the time we got back to the car, poor DS had a few meltdowns on our walk as he wanted to go in the opposite direction or just stopped walking. 🙄 He always waited for an audience to do it as well to maximise the embarrassment. He was really upset when he couldn't go on the swings and was crying proper tears so I felt quite bad for him. ☹️ He was fascinated watching the other kids on their bikes and scooters though so that cheered him up a bit.
I had already done 25 mins of cardio tone and 25 mins of yoga on the Thursday morning so I was done in after the long walk plus dealing with DS's tantrums. I had to half drag half carry him a few times.
The park was really busy and it was difficult to stay far enough away from people a lot of the time. Most people made an effort but some people weren't bothering at all.
On Friday I got up early and went to Mr L - we only needed a few things so I just got a basket, then wished I'd got a trolley as they had compost. Typical. I got a smaller 20L bag for 99p, their 40L bags were only £1.99 so will need to go back another time to get more. The smaller bag will keep us going though.
I was pleasantly surprised as Mr L had loads of things I haven't been able to get from Mr A or Mr M for weeks now like baking powder and anti-bacterial cleaners etc. I bought more of the Mr L Q10 serum as it's really nice and only about £3. 😃
I was in and out within 30 mins which was good but had to carry the blinking bag of compost along with my bags as the security guard very kindly (not) refused to let me take the basket out of the shop. 🙄 It sets the alarm off if you try to pull the basket past the tills once you've paid and when I came back he just said oh you're not allowed to take the basket and then stared at me. I stared back like "....?" and then just picked all my stuff up and said "Well I'm glad I didn't buy the big bag of compost" and flounced off in a huff. 🤣
Well I flounced as much as possible whilst carrying two big bags of shopping and a big bag of compost under my arm. 🤣 He didn't even offer to carry it for me! In Mr M's the security guards are much nicer and are always offering to carry or lift heavy things. I usually don't take them up on it as I can manage but it's nice that they offer.
