Made to measure is that. Made to measure. If he's given you the wrong measurements, then there's no reason at all for you to alter free.

If there isn't something already in your terms and conditions to reflect this, they need updating for future.

On quotes do you have on the paperwork somewhere E&OE? Errors and Omissions Excluded. This would then give you some leeway to go back and correct something wrongly quoted.

I feel for you, running your own business is no fun sometimes.

I will have a look at the fine print, although we have it on the wall we don't tend to have it in the paperwork.
I called both staff together briefly today as after a morning of idiotic requests, and having stupid Repairs to tents, sleeping bags, handbags, horse splints, and a straw hat! I had enough.
    Instructions are now,
No silly jobs! No heavy furnishings, all curtain making etc to be recommended to another seamstress who specialises in them.
No exact price for unknown quantity, and an ESTIMATE not a white for time before price. To estimate at least 30 minutes more than initially thought to cover, deposits for larger than £50 jobs, and no jumping the queue unless a premium is charged for a gold service.
That we are dressmaker/tailoring not anything else. Although we will shorten curtains ( good money there), we will not make big items at this time. It can be reviewed again later, but I can't be doing with the stress.
The bunting ended up giving me £4 an hour labour!
Although I am glad I had done it as he came in for it today instead of the deadline of tomorrow he had said.
I had the dentist and had hoped it was the day for my implant but apparently not, it was a further piece of metal added, the denture refitted over it, and he said two weeks! I told him that the wedding is two weeks today! So I may very well not have my implant intime.
I got back to work and just burst into tears!
I presume that it is because I am so tired.

    ***HUGS***
well done for speaking to staff and reading the riot act
re dentist: you will look gorgeous whether your implant is fitted or not so don't stress, think positive
re camper cushions: as others have said go back and look at the original enquiry measurements if those are what he gave then that is his issue & its not your issue hes down in devon if they do need to be altered by you (unlikely) then he needs to return them to your workshop by courier or shanks pony. i've had a full bells and whistles (short lead time) enquiry myself this week with diamond work, piping and 2nd fabric type, they have not said where they want the piping or 2nd fabric in the seats therefore they are getting what i give them.

have a relaxing bath, a bit of reading and an early night for a couple of nights to give yourself some time to recharge xx

If he gave you the measurements, rather than old covers to use as templates, then it's his problem if they're not right.

Please don't let the recent problems get you down. I agree with others that you should let staff go at the end of June. At least what you save in her wages will help subsidise the ridiculously poor rate you got for the bunting, which was all her fault!

Just a thought...I'm ever the cynical one....but could this customer be in anyway linked to staff? She was getting him a good deal in her final days?

Stay positive Mooloo. I just wish I lived closer to you as I've got several jobs I need doing right now and don't know a local seamstress.

i'm not sure where in Norfolk you are but i'm based near Norwich, i'm more on the upholstery/soft furnishings stuff than alterations but do do clothes fixes (I have a very hard wearing work colleague when it comes to her clothes). feel free to drop me a message & based on what it is I may be able to suggest someone

Thanks everyone, I had a meltdown day yesterday, but I stopped working at 5pm, came home after collecting dgd, and apart from cooking a stir fry didn't do anything else and went to bed just after 10pm.
I only woke three times, which for me is good.
Although I felt really beat yesterday, I am going to focus on my daughter's wedding today. It has become urgent to me, and I will make my suit today and customers jobs that are urgent can be done by the seamstress, but as far as I can remember there was nothing that had to be priority for today or tomorrow.
I must iron my dress and get ready for work.

Morning all, from a slightly happier Moo.
I was the one giving my Neighbour a shoulder to cry on yesterday outside school, it was her turn to have a meltdown! Hugs, tissues, and a little help. I got to work to find the seamstress already there and practising on the blind hemming machine. We discussed the Machine and the need for finer needles and so before I started the sewing I did the ordering from eBay and Amazon. Although we may be waiting a few weeks for some of the special threads to go with it.
I then concentrated on my own outfit for the wedding.
I finished it at about 4.45
I tried it all on, hat, shoes and a bag I bought in the little shop next door to mine. BF took a quick picture for me as I don't have any big mirrors here at home. I have put it on my Facebook page. But I really need to press it properly!!
We spent the evening doing a little gardening and then watching catch up on tv.
Today I am back to work to do customers jobs and teaching in the last hour.
I am looking forward to a relaxing weekend at the BF's afterwards.
I can turn to my problems from a distance then. I need to get my diary out and scribble.

Ok so how many of you have sneaked a peak at my Facebook page, suddenly there has been 1,444 views! Never get that many normally!

Dgd has gone to a BBQ and a sleepover so I have come to Oxford tonight but will need to get home tomorrow afternoon instead of Monday morning. Can't complain though, very lucky to get the night off.
