  • I had a real moment of realization that i need to really loose weight. I weigh 76 kilos. I should be about 10 kilo less. The clothes have not shrunk nor have I moved into a parallel universe of smaller people. So I am bordering on obese ... i am a size 14 obesity is the next box in the bmi list.

I eat relatively well no convenience foods or take aways in ages. I have an inability to determine a normal portion. I tend to eat late and have weaknesses for dairy and love food in general. I want to lower my bmi in order to reduce my diabetes risk, stroke and hypertention risk. In general my diet is good but too much. I need to increase activity levels at all costs.

LL I am sorry that you have such a painful cough, I hope your throat is improving day by day

Indie I am glad that you and A are finding that you have so much in common and that your are both on the same wavelength. I hope this relationship just continues to grow and develop for the both of you. Enjoy your trip away from home.

I have been having so much pain in both of my arms and shoulders, that I have not been at work for the last 2 days. I saw a Doctor in my surgery last night and she left me fuming. She had never met me before, but she took one look at my obese body and rushed to judge me and pigeon hole me.:p Her final diagnosis is that my pains; arm and shoulder pain, headaches at the base of my neck, abdominal pains, chest pains and insomnia because of the pain are because of the non existent back pain that I am suffering from that is then spreading throughout my body. It is 'normal wear and tear' for a fat woman like me!!!! Would I consider doing some exercise? my reply 'what do you think 3 hours a day, 5 days a week of intense cleaning is?'. She then printed out 3 A4 sheets of information on healthy eating that I refused to accept from her, as I pointed out that before I became a cleaner, I was in Childcare and before that, I was the Project Co-ordinator for a healthy eating project. She took my blood pressure with a too small cuff, so the cuff was painful and left a mark on my arm. Then she insisted on repeating this process with the same cuff. The only useful thing she did was to make a referral to have my heart checked out. I asked her if any of my painful symptoms could be because I was living on Ibruprofen and Paracetamol for at least 3 months and she patronised me by saying that I should have noticed that the Ibruprofen should only be taken every 8 hours as it advised me to do on the packaging. I knew she was wrong, but did not have a packet of them in my handbag to prove it. :p It is every 4 hours! She would not listen to my concerns. She tried to insist that I was taking hypertension medication in 2013 even though I insisted I was not and took delight in being dismissive about my decision not to take medication for my hypertension.

It was my daughter's 25th birthday yesterday and this whole episode with this Doctor put a pall over the celebrations for a short while, then I had to force myself to stop talking about my anger and disappointment and get back to enjoying my daughter's birthday with her. We all had a good day. :D

My daughter got the presents she had asked for and I bought her the fried fish in gravy with rice and peas takeaway meal from our local Caribbean takeaway that she wanted. Which she thoroughly enjoyed eating.:) I even bought her a can of Apple Tango, when normally I do not buy drinks like this for my son or daughter, but it was her birthday. ;)

I had the same meal as my daughter and my son had curried chicken and plain rice with an can of Apple Tango. I drank bottled water.

I had a large mixed salad with a small amount of grated mature cheddar cheese for my evening meal to make up for my indulgent Caribbean meal at lunch time.

I had only bought a very small birthday cake with royal icing, that my daughter had asked for, but we agreed that we did not need to cut the cake until another day.

I am always glad when my children make healthy eating choices, as I do not want them to have a roller coaster ride with their weight and diet like I have had. They understand they I have to try to eat a balanced diet every day of their life that goes across all of the food groups.

My eldest daughter does not find it easy to keep weight off because she is now physically disabled, but she is a brilliant cook and baker and she may be overweight, but she is not obese. Her legs in particular are so shapely that they are always invoking compliments from other women

My eldest son is obese but he is an active, social person and a professional chef. His weight does fluctuate a lot, much like mine.

After my pampering bath, I will get dressed and go out into the sunshine to run a few errands.

OMG! That's appalling!! So she infuriated you and you're no further down the line of knowing what all the pain is about. When you've had the heart check maybe you could see a different doctor who'll take your symptoms a bit more seriously.

I'm glad you were able to put it behind you to celebrate with your daughter. My DD1 likes a take away on her birthday too. It's partly because it's at Christmas (20th December) and eating out is fraught at that time of the year but also because she enjoys the food as a change as none of us have take always as a general rule so it's a nice treat.

That was a heartfelt post SFT. You've chosen a good time to push on with weightloss. The summer is so much easier for eating lighter foods. Plus as you're happy to cook from scratch and not have many take aways you won't find it such hard work. Now I know I'm always preaching about Slimming World but I would suggest you look at their 7 day sample menus on line. There's also a relatively new faster weightloss (as a boost not long term) plan which is effectively protein and veg/fruit for each meal (so no carbs) along with the usual 2 slices of wholemeal bread (or cereal) and milk (or other dairy) each day for healthy fibre and calcium. It's not easy but I do try and have some meals like that, typically something like an omelette with salad for lunch.

I enjoyed my facial yesterday and a back and arm massage came as part of it. It was brilliantly relaxing. I slept really well last night. The beautician complimented me on my tanned legs and arms. I confessed it was not only fake but cheap fake (the Palmers Cocoa Butter lotion) and she said how natural it looked. I think I should become a rep!

Fab Friday today and I'm joining in. I'm wearing a patterned White Stuff skirt in pinks and greys with a white (also White Stuff) tee shirt. I'll wear my flip flops that I bought at the end of last summer when I go out. I noticed that Sainsbury's doesn't just have the 25% of clothes but 25% off wine too!!:j

    Have a good day all.:)

Sugarbaby.......that is absolutely shocking treatment from your doctor. You have every right to be angry. Hopefully when your heart check is complete you might be able to move forward and sort out your other issues.

I know the general advice is to eat across all food groups and not restrict anything but I can truthfully say that since giving up grains my unresolved and unexplained muscle pains (fibromyalgia) and my GERD and IBS are so much improved. I'm also sleeping better too.

Do you think you might have some form of gluten intolerance that might be causing your pain and your stomach problems.

SFT. Well done on deciding to tackle your weight issues......it's never too late to make a fresh start. As Maman says with it being summer and all it might be easier to eat "lighter".

Well I have lost 3.4 lbs since Monday. I am so pleased.

As you know I try to eat paleo but with a twist in that I eat dairy....far too much dairy if I'm honest. I'm a cheeseaholic.

Following a recent blood test which apparently revealed that my cholesterol levels are creeping up I have drastically reduced my cheese intake this week. I think this is helping me to finally start losing some weight.

I've not seen the practice nurse yet to discuss this but I won't be taking either statins or metaformin. They can whistle.
I will do it my way, through diet, supplements and exercise.

I have decided to also reduce bacon, sausage and processed meat consumption - no more than once a week......:o and to cut back on red meat.

So.......Lots of fish and a Mediterranean slant on the paleo diet......

I'm also trying to eat more alkaline foods to combat the acid redux.... have started drinking lemon and honey .....it's helping my esophagus too, very soothing.

I know it sounds like a real faff having to make all these dietary adjustments and I feel like I am practically educating myself to degree level biochemistry at this rate.....:rotfl: but if it heals me without resorting to medication then it's worth the hassle.

I noticed the 25 per cent of wine offer too.....maybe time for a stock up. Well I do have to drink red wine to reduce my cholesterol. :rotfl:

Still coughing but thankfully much less painful now so I'm getting there.

I bought. dS2 two shirts in sainsbugs sale but was very restrained and didn't buy myself anything.

I have more than enough clothes for now :rotfl: and.....if I dropped a couple of dress sizes I have some really lovely things that are packed away that have hardly been worn.

Have spent the afternoon sorting out my finances, paying bills. Took a while this month because of being away and not keeping on top of everything but feeling pleased at a job well done.

    Hello Ladies,

The sun is blistering hot in London so I went and ran my errands before the sun could reach it's zenith

I bought myself a new pair of Slazenger leather trainers for work

There are changes happening at my Doctor's surgery that I was not aware of. I had never met that Doctor before and vice versa. Do not misunderstand me she never said the words 'for a fat woman' but she certainly implied them. I had thought my appointment was with the lead Doctor in our surgery. No one told me they had made the appointment with another Doctor not the Doctor of my choice until I was waiting in the reception area. Next time I will insist on seeing the lead Doctor who is a very professional Doctor who has excellent diagnostic skills and is a really good active listener.

LL great news that you are losing weight. Does my memory serve me well or not? Is it you that owns the red suede jacket that is too small for you at the moment? I have a beautiful red leather Kaleidoscope jacket that is a small, fitted size 14, that has only fit me once last year since I bought it. It is only one item of clothing that I long to wear, so I really need to stop messing around and lose some weight.

    That's an interesting post LL.

It may seem a faff to start with but when you're already used to cooking from scratch l found it becomes second nature. I find eating out more of a problem and I think it's got worse with austerity. It seems that to keep costs down carbs like bread and pastry have increased. It's not that I don't eat carbs but it's the deep frying I won't have.

I did go to Sainsbury's and tried on the chinos. I didn't like the cut so they stayed where they were. I did spend freely on the 25% off wine though.:D

I managed to replace my old espadrilles in Aldi. £4.99 can't be bad! I'll buy more moisturiser from there for my holiday. Good to see they have a high SPF too.

The red leather jacket sounds like great motivation Sugarbaby . Go for it!!:D
  • sugar,,, i am glad that you had a great time for your daughter's birthday and everyone enjoyed the food.
I was saddened to hear the way you were treated by the doctor. Some doctors should stick to research and avoid patients. I have met a few of these and some of them would make dr house look all warm and fuzzy. Make an appointment with a different doctor and move on, her lack of empathy or communication skills will impact on her more than you can imagine.

So i have been not focusing upon the pampering too much for the last few days. I have been so busy with travelling large distances that even having matching shoes feels like an accomplishment.

I have really tried to eat healthy with one small slip but as it was that or starve i can forgive myself. I have been eating salads, fruit and raw oatmeal. Today i had spinach salad with loads of vegtables, fresh fruit for lunch and homemade vegtable soup for dinner.

I have increased the levels of herbal tea as i am not a fan of water and often feel cold. I have a fridge and freezer loaded with healthy options and the bad aisles will be omitted for a while. So small steps... so i'-m trying to avoid processed meats, eat fish and just eat whole foods. It is not a diet just a kick in the behind before i make that step upwards on the bmi chart.

I know that i most likely need to restart using compression hose as the level of swelling in my feet is quiet a lot. The last time using them my legs were slimmer and lighter but i think i will be more choosy about the style. I will pay for something happily if it is more cosmetically appealing to me and has more chance of being used.

    Good morning lovely ladies.

Raining here but I have to say I don't really mind. I did a lot of new planting in the garden yesterday so the rain will help the new plants get established and I won't have to worry about them wilting or drying out.

SFT I wore flight socks last winter under jeans and trousers, it really helped reduce ankle swelling so I shall be interested to see what kind of compression hose you go for.

I actually got rid of the red suede jacket......I didnt feel it was "me" anymore.:rotfl: no regrets. I think I might stop wearing jeans too. Don't worry I'm not turning into "beige elisticated waist woman". :rotfl: I just feel the "rock chick look" doesn't do it for me anymore. Ha ha.

I just feel my style is changing again, evolving into something that is both simpler but hopefully still feminine and chic. Trouser wise I am going for soft wools, crepe, linen and jersey. And I seem to have gone in for coatigans, capes and ponchos rather than jackets just lately. I find them very versatile, easy to wear and very cosy.

I have been a bit spendy recently and have bought several nice "proper coats" too, all in the sales of course. Cream, red, purple with a big fur collar, and a pale pink one so I'm all set for autumn and winter.

Re the 12 months challenge to change my life..........

It's just about to step up a gear..........This week we commence "operation find me a house". I want to achieve this by Christmas.

DS2 and his girlfriend are making plans for their future together so now is the right time for me to move on with my life. It's been Nearly three years since my husbands death. I am pleased to say that I feel that I have fulfilled my promise to him to "look after the boys".

They are both have their own properties, are now in happy and committed relationships, are settled in their lives and careers, and on their way to happy and secure futures.

    My work is done. :D

I did what I could for my parents, and dads solicitor has just about wrapped up dads estate. I just have to sort out mums jewellery and then it's all finished.

As for my sister......well it is what it is. Relations are cordial and polite. That's the best I can hope for.

I am as free as a bird and it's time to fly.

I still miss my husband of course and always will but the memories I have are fond and happy. They will sustain me.

I doubt I shall date again or search for a new partner. My friend who is a widow keeps trying but seems to meet with nothing but failure. I'm not sure I'm strong enough or masochistic enough to put myself through all the hassle ...........

However, as the saying goes, "never say never" ;)
