Frump to Fab 2017 - A Whole New World

Hi everyone, have you got space for a newbie?
I'm feeling rather frumpy and I've just read this thread and you all seem so friendly and kind to each other. I've loved imaging what you are all like from your clothes and makeup choices!
I have depression and on bad days I struggle a little bit with self care. As some of you mentioned earlier I know I'm struggling if I miss doing my teeth!
I'm definitely for the idea of spending more on less things. I personally prefer to buy better quality skincare as although I'm fairly young I think you're never too young to start thinking about the face! Im really bored of my wardrobe and too big for some of my clothes. I recently did a big clear out and took a load of things to the charity shop I know I won't fit in again. Some of them I was a bit attached to from wearing when younger and feeling good in them but they don't don't any more! I'd love some new more expensive key pieces but I just don't have budget for it. Hopefully I will earn more and when I do remember to invest wisely in high quality classics.
I'm going to try to do some yoga in a bit. I'm awful at doing exercise as I find I have very low energy due to my mental health and potentially medications. I'm also going to try and rejoin an affordable gym with no contract once checking it out.
Nee from work up to using body lotion regularly, my flat is quite cold!0 -
Hi houseplant, welcome to the thread. Absolutely with you on it being too cold for body lotion. That's part of my only doing my arms logic. Baby oil is cheap and really fast to absorb if you can brace yourself for that long?'If you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need' Marcus Tullius Cicero0

Houseplant I know what you mean when I am down the first thing that is affected is my self care. You can tell how i am feeling by the appearance and if my hair is brushed. Sometimes i wonder if i feel better for forcing myself to do the basics or are the days i make an effort the good days.
I had a bit of trouble with the foundation yesterday, then it irritated my eyes so much. It was like bad foundation, not great finish was topped by irritated eyes. This was not a great start to the day.
I hope tomorrow will be better, I'm going to pick a nice outfit for tomorrow morning. I tried to eat healthy today and do better each day.
To be fab takes many steps and tomorrow i begin with a new step.0 -
In other news REN Rose oil is my new all time favourite thing ever. Even I just do my arms and hands I can smell it on myself in bed, lovely stuff.
The REN Morrocan Rose range is lovely isn't it? I have just used up some other shower gel and body lotion and am moving onto REN rose next. I don't have the oil at the moment but have got the shower gel and firming body creamAlwaysAllie wrote: »indiepanda I found exactly the same - sensitive seems to show you've woken up if you twitch; normal sometimes doesn't show me waking if you don't move much - seens there's no happy medium!
Glad it's not just me. Sensitive just didn't correlate at all with how rested I felt - one night it reckoned I got less than 3 hrs sleep and I felt fine in the morning!0 -
Sensitive is pretty accurate for me both on the flex and the alta. but then I don't sleep much
I wear mine on my non-dominant hand - not sure whether that makes a difference.
Someone on the fitbit forum did a test with a motion sensitive camera and compared the data to their fitbit - it came out pretty much the same as sensitive.0 -

That's interesting. I would question whether being a bit inclined to move in your sleep is really the same as being awake which is how the sensitive setting seems to class it, but I guess if I feel fine in the morning I don't need to worry about it too much.
Does your fitbit now tell you what your aerobic fitness is? Just spotted that on my app tonight, don't remember my old one doing that.0 -

Welcome Houseplant!
I know what you mean by self care, sometimes I do have to force myself too.
I have slowly been going through my wardrobe and chucking out the clothes that do nothing for me. Have you looked at capsule wardrobes via google? - its helped me form a wishlist of quality multi purpose pieces to keep an eye out for in charity shops as I don't presently have the budget to buy them new.
I used to think yoga was far to trippy for me, but I joined a class last year when my back was giving me trouble and now I find myself really energised after a class - the biggest obstacle is just getting to the gym when it is cold and dark!
I put body lotion on before stepping out of the shower/bath. Literally still wet without drying. I found that is the only time in winter I can bear it and even though its a bit diluted by the water on my skin because I am still warm its all absorbed right away, I then towel off.No buying unnecessary toiletries 2014. Epiphany on 4/4/14 - went into shop to buy 2 items, walked out with 17!0 -

I'm definitely waking up when it says I'm awakeThere's a difference between that and the 'restless' reporting. If anything the new one is less sensitive than the old one.
Nothing on aerobic fitness, but the alta doesn't have a heart rate monitor.
Struggling to get up this morning - I'm very tired and need to get myself off to Pilates shortly. Good thing I didn't have an early meeting0 -
Good morning lovely ladies
Are we ready for the "artic blast" that's about to hit.......thermals at the ready, dig out the extra layers, wrap up warm and keep safe on the slippery pavements and roads.
Today I shall be popping into Aldi and Sainsbobs to stock up a bit on milk, fresh fruit and veg etc before the snow hits.
Im quite looking forward to a few snow days, it will be a good excuse to stay home, potter about, cook some good healthy food, read something nice, continue working my way through the clutter.
I have been busy with the funeral plans and have made a good start on dad's paperwork. The funeral has been set for January 27tn so hopefully I will have tackled the bulk of it all by then so I can then go into February with a clean slate and finally move forward.
It really is the end of an era .......It all feels a bit surreal. I'm very fortunate in that I still have my fab sister and my wonderful boys, life is good and spring is just round the corner. 2017 will be my new beginning.
Have any of you been watching all the diet and healthy eating programmes. Lots of ideas and I'm feeling confident that I'm now ready to embrace a much healthier and hopefully more exciting lifestyle.
I still have a bit of a sleep deficit and am still struggling with an IBS flare up but am trying hard to rest more and eat better. I did rather neglect myself whilst Running around, hospital visiting etc. It didnt take long to undo all the good work but hopefully the worst is over I can now get back on track.
I'm having my hair cut and coloured tomorrow - always a good place to start.
I definitely need to get back into doing some exercise, hopefully in a few days when my cough has cleared. Nearly there.
Loving all the chat ladies......lots of enthusiasm.
Welcome to all our newbies......
Please don't be hard on yourselves, speak gently to yourselves, treat yourselves with the love and compassion you show to others. Don't be harsh and judgemental, just resolve to do better.
Remember Frumpdom didn't just happen overnight, it crept up on you over time. Don't push for miracles and quick fixes, don't overwhelm yourselves with punishing diets and intensive regimes. That is the easiest way to to fail.
Just take it slowly and steadily, build up good habits gradually.
Give it three months and you will see the difference.0 -

I like the sound of the REN rose products. I will investigate.
I'm running low on moisturiser (both cheap and quality) so will need to go into town for that soon. I'm hoping to put it off until next week as I'm a bit busy over the next few days.
On the body lotion front: I have cheaper versions from Superdrug and supermarkets and I have Clarins stuff that I layer with other products. A week or so ago I started using this.
I remember telling you that it made me smell like a chocolate biscuit! I noticed yesterday that my legs and arms have built up a lovely, golden tan so I'd recommend it for anyone who wants a bit of colour. It'd be perfect pre-holiday so that we don't look too pasty or for an occasion where your arms and legs would be on show. I don't want to get browner and browner so I'm going to have to get another product to use alongside it.
It's bright but chilly here today. I'm going for lunch in a country pub so I'm aiming for a casual look: black jeans, black quilted jacket, dark red ankle boots, green jumper and my tartan Cath Kidston scarf.:)0
