Hello Ladies,
I had such a fun filled evening at Karaoke. There is not enough superlatives in the English Concise dictionary to adequately express my joy in successfully returning to Karaoke. Suffice to say that my cup of happiness is still running over. :j
Ruby, I concur with what LL had to say to you. I have only been married once and I had a very traditional wife role and my husband took a very traditional husband role.
He was in the British Armed Forces throughout our marriage. Yet even though he was no great husband to me, he made a huge effort to be a good father, because I simply would not allow him to be selfish where our children were concerned. When I finally woke up to the fact that he would not be supportive if I did not demand it of him, I had to be assertive for our children's sake. So, I totally know where LLis coming from when she says that you need to learn to be more manipulative and more assertive with your husband.
One of the funniest things my ex husband did was stop cooking for the family as soon as we were married even though at the time he was the much better cook of the 2 of us. :rotfl: When I originally met him he was a trainee chef.I did become a much better cook than him though because I learnt from my cooking mistakes very quickly.
Indie, just keep enjoying your new man. He seems to have some lovely qualities, so just go with the flow.
Chanie, welcome back from your holiday. I am glad you and your family had a good time.
I am going to the cinema with my son later today and it will be a very MSE visit to the Vue Piccadilly compliments of my 2 free Vue tickets from Tesco.:D
I plan to go to a Spoken word event tomorrow evening, where hopefully I will get the opportunity to perform 2 of my poems to an audience :eek:0 -

I love reading about your exploits, particularly the karaoke, that brings you so much happiness. I don't know many people who have found their passion like you have.
Good luck with your poetry event tomorrow. I'm sure you will be fab.0 -
We had a nice holiday in Greece and the children enjoyed themselves, so me and OH could relax. I was quite dissapointed shopping wise as I didn't see much that I was interested in. I did buy some lovely handmade sandals (I was totally an ancient greek in my former life) and a very grown up purchase of a table cloth for when we decorate our dining room. I love buying local craft items when on holiday so I can remember the trip. But I only buy stuff that is useful and will 'spark joy', like a pretty serving dish or some local delicacies.
I popped into Lidl today for a top shop and it was 'Greek week', so I got to stock up on some of the items we ate on holiday. I also picked up my order from Sainsburys 25% off clothing, which I ordered just before we went away. I ordered some leather ankle boots for work, which I will be keeping.0 -
Glad you enjoyed your holiday chanie . Like you I like to buy useful souvenirs to remind me of places I've been to. Most recently I've been buying foodie things like paprika from Hungary and two tops from C&A in Budapest!
Delighted you're feeling well enough to get back to karaoke Sugarbaby . It tells me that you're on the mend. I could have waved to you tonight. I've had a good day in London and was in Picadilly earlier about 6ish We had a lovely time at Buckingham Palace, the state rooms and the art work are worth a visit and the exhibition of gifts just an added extra.
I'm with the others on my views about your DH ruby . My brother has twins (now grown up) but they had far more support than you're getting. I remember particularly when they were toddlers and my SIL entered the mum's race at nursery. She fell and broke both wrists! Fortunately my brother ( a teacher with the holiday coming up) and her mum came to stay to help out. Like LL I'd love to help you if I lived nearby. What about the in-laws even for an hour or two to yourself?
I did some shopping earlier in the week. From the CS I bought a natural linen skirt. It's Hobbs, lined and quite full so ideal for dancing. I also bought black culottes from New Look. Not sure if they're keepers yet.0 -
Good morning ladies.....
Please kick me up the derrière.
For several reasons I have been unable to stick to my paleo eating this week or so. I have gained 4 lbs in a week. plus of course my joints and muscles hurt.
So today it's back to it, and try to drink as much water as I can to flush out my system.
On a more positive note all the painting and work top oiling is done. Just need to sort out the finishing touches, light fittings, curtains and blinds etc.
Chanie .......glad you had a nice holiday. Greece is so lovely. Hope to go back to Santorini one day. Now that my DS1 has moved out I'm as free as a bird. Maybe when I've sold this house I could do a Shirley Valentine. :rotfl: Thanks for the heads up about Aldi and their "Greek Week". I love it when they do their themed weeks and I always stock up on the appropriate herbs, spices, sauces etc that they get in specially.
SUgarbaby.....how fab you are back in the karaoke groove. It always makes you so happy. Good luck with the poetry reading. If I lived near you I would be in the audience giving you moral support. You really are an inspiration to us all. Out there and just "doing it".
I am struggling with my knees (that extra 4lb isn't going to help) and I desperately need to walk more. I am contemplating taking up the consultants suggestion of a steroid injection. The benefits are not permanent but I was thinking that if it reduced my pain and Improved my mobility even in the short term then perhaps it would help me walk more and get fitter in the long term Iyswim. Maybe I just need to break the pain cycle so that I can help myself a bit more.
Indie.....you sound like you are thoroughly enjoying your "frog kissing". :rotfl: go you!!!
Fab Friday and the sun is shining.
Tonight Derby is having a special market, lots of foodie stalls, street entertainment. Hoping to get to it if my knee holds out. I walked nearly 7000 steps yesterday. I know it's not much and we should be aiming for 10,000 but after a couple of weeks of not walking very far at all it was quite an achievement. By the evening I was in agony but things don't seem too bad this morning. Keeping my fingers crossed I can manage tonight.
My DILs parents have arrived from Venezuela. Yesterday we all went out for a posh afternoon tea, again to the same hotel as before. It certainly didn't help the diet but it was nice to see their reaction. They were completely blown away both with the building (an old priory) and the concept of afternoon tea. They are becoming confirmed anglophiles. I shall have to cook some traditional English grub for them whilst they are here.
Ruby ....hope the boys are a bit better.
Hope you all have a fabulous bank holiday weekend. I've no real plans. DS1 and The Venezuelan lot are off to Wales so I am excused tour guide duties for a few days.

Hello Ladies,
My son and I watched Dunkirk at the cinema yesterday and were completely mesmerised by the non stop action. Films like this really bring to life moments in history for the younger generation. I would give this film 9.5/10. It only cost me £3 in bus fares for myself, as I had free tickets and my son has a free student Oyster card, so travels for free on buses. I took snacks and drinks from home to the cinema.
LL can I suggest fish oils to you for joint pain and flexibility. I too would normally be having pains in both of my knees as I am now just over 17 stones in weight ( having gained another 3lbs), but I am pain free thanks to daily fish oils. They also improve your memory and concentration skills. Years ago my Doctor suggested that I had arthritis in my knees, but I just decided to help myself with a very natural product as I do not intend to end up with my movements curtailed.
I am looking forward to the Spoken Word event tonight in Blackfriars. I have never been there before, but decided to take the bull by the horns and attend. If it lives up to my expectations, I will return. I will certainly meet some like minded people who like me love to write and are avid readers.
Have a fab Friday Ladies0 -
Yes I do take fish oils and they do help. I think the pain is linked to the meniscus injury rather than arthritis. That's what the steroid injection would target.
I am going to ring his secretary today and book myself in.
I've just had an Epsom salt bath and feel much better.0 -
LL thank for that explanation. I do not have arthritis, I just had my Doctor suggesting it a few years ago. I always take Doctor's 'suggestions' with a pinch of salt, as they are not a definitive diagnosis.
I hope the steroid injection brings you temporary release from pain.0 -
Afternoon lovely ladies,
Sorry have been a bit MIA lately but been super duper busy, mostly buying another horse :j:j
I went to see her on Tuesday and was so happy/impressed more or less put a deposit on her straight away and arranged for a vetting which she passed with flying colours today. So now it's a rush around trying to get a yard sorted and transport arranged to bring her down from the Midlands.
She's a beauty, very light grey with almost white mane and tail, 6 years old and 15hh so slightly smaller than my darling Bill. She is forward going and engages actively with her rider whilst at the same time being calm and sensible when being ridden in traffic, all in all quite a find and I am over the moon that she will be mine
With all this going on have to confess haven't had much time for fabbing, both my finger and toenails could do with some attention, likewise my eyebrows so intend having a spa morning tomorrow.
So good to read that you have been enjoying Karaoke again Sugar its obviously something that you love doing.
Hope you get some joy from the specialist LL and they can help with your knees.
Have never been to mainland Greece Chanie but love Crete and have been several times, one of my favourite places in the world.
Hugs Ruby and wise words from the ladies on here, you are worth far more than this.
Great find with the Hobbs skirt Maman
Woo hoo on the frog kissing Indie0 -
Hello Ladies,
Lainey I am so happy for you, because I know how much you wanted to find yourself another horse.
I had such a good evening last night. I walked in and there was a man who was a regular at Karaoke, so at least not everyone was a stranger. Everyone made a point of being welcoming and friendly so I did not feel too nervous.
I get very nervous when I am reading my poetry in front of an audience, so I only took one poem with me. It was very well received though. It was relaxing listening to the other people read their poems. There were varying levels of talent, but I applauded everyone as it takes courage to stand in front of an audience, especially when you have to use a microphone.
I have been inspired to do some creative writing today, as I want to start making a folder of new work, as most of my pieces of creative writing were written so many years ago.
I wrote a poem today and intend to write another one tomorrow.
I was dressed very casually yesterday so I fitted in with everyone else. I did layer my perfume with the matching body lotion though.
The added bonus is that we were all offered artisan breads and cakes, fresh vegetables and cooked sweet chili chicken wings and thighs to take home at the end of the poetry readings. That meant free dinner for me last night and free lunch for my son and I today. My son did not want to try the bread as the seeds were not to his liking and my daughter had a taste but did not particularly like the bread. My son loved the chicken, but he did not want any of the cakes because he has gone off cakes that have a high chocolate content. My daughter and I have no such qualms and really enjoyed the cakes.
It is a monthly meeting, so I am hoping to be there each month. It will be good to make new friends and also to continue to hone my writing skills.0
