Or tell her you're bringing the kids....
  • Ruby It is the bridizella who has the issues. How totally lacking in understanding that you may struggle to get a baby sitter you trust for two active little men. She must be so self involved it would seem. I pity her as life is not all sunshine and rainbows. Oh what will she do when the cake is cut, confetti swept up and a new bride is no longer newly wed.

Personally I would attend, enjoy the time you spend with other friends and leave when it suits you and OH. I would reduce the gift due to bridzella tax, keep half what you intended and get a meal out for yourself and OH.

Ruby have you a dress that you feel amazing in? If so wear it and dont stress, at weddings people tend to remember friendly people more so than who had an extra pound or two. I prefer to have a decent, good, compassionate heart rather than a perfect size. Goodness and empathy are the true measure of a person, not a dress size.

How disappointing about the lack of a 'spark' indie, but better I think to find these things out quickly rather than email for ages and get your hopes up! Your plans sound very interesting, what lovely things you have planned :)

I'm a bit upset at the moment; OH & I are supposed to be going to a wedding this weekend, but as his mum & dad will only just be back from hols, I emailed the bride to ask if OH could attend alone if we had no-one to babysit. Turns out she has taken great offence at this, thinks I'm unreasonable for not mentioning it sooner (I didn't know they were going on holiday, it was a last minute booking!) and told me that it was either both of us or neither. Anyhow, I think we have it sorted, MIL will babysit despite being shattered after her very busy hols, but the whole episode has left a nasty taste in my mouth and actually now I'd rather not be going :( I find social occasions anxiety-inducing enough recently without adding this into the mix, and my confidence is really low as I'm struggling with my weight.

Yes, I learned that from my first experience of internet dating, get a meeting planned in real life pretty quickly, some guys would message daily and not ever agree to meet up - complete time wasters.

Sorry about the situation with the wedding, the bride sounds really rude. I suppose maybe they've paid for a certain number of places and don't want any to go to waste and haven't got any other single people to invite they'd want to come if you didn't, but she should still appreciate that sometimes stuff happens at the last minute and it's not your fault. Hope you manage to enjoy it anyway.

I had a good dance at Ceroc last night, thinking about going to a freestyle at the weekend. Only thing against is this one is a pay on the door job and they tend to end up rather biased in the favour of women - not enough men to go round. Whereas class nights there are often more men so plenty of scope to get dances during the post class freestyle.

Due to be going to the roof top bar at John Lewis with friends tonight. Weather isn't looking that brilliant now, but I think it's meant to brighten up tonight so hopefully it will be ok.

Work is progressing well on the house, this weekend will need to pick out a new light for the bedroom and I need to make a call soon on paint colours too - wasn't that struck on the test pots I tried so need to get some more this weekend. Will only be a variation on cream / beige, I will get colour into the room via paintings / soft furnishings rather than via the walls.

Been reading the latest Michael Mosley health book (of Fast Diet fame). Latest is about gut health and backs up a lot of what I've been reading and what the diet I followed earlier this year was about. Need to get back on the bandwagon with that, I feel a bit as if I have put on some weight as the dress I wore on Tuesday was a little snugger, although it might just be a bit of bloating as it was coming up to that time of the month. But more importantly I can feel my energy levels aren't quite where they were now my sugar / carb consumption has crept up a bit so I want to get back on the bandwagon. I don't expect to shift a lot before the holiday, but I will be active enough on holiday I shouldn't gain much and then I can have a focused push in October before going to Florida in mid November.

Also got to sort out my left knee, had some major issues with knees a few years ago, was threatened with surgery on both by the GP but the consultant who reviewed the MRI concluded intensive physio would do it, and it did. Anyway, I have been feeling some pain again lately and want to nip it in the bud before it gets too bad. Managed to persuade the GP not to send me straight for scans this time but to let the physio try first and persuaded BUPA to pay for 5 sesssions of physio which will get me to my holiday time at least. Physio reckons my natural gait has my knees rolling in slightly and I need to focus on using my glutes to turn my leg out slightly (compared to current natural position) to stop this and that will help with the pain I sometimes get. Also need to do lots of stretching and if needs be he will show me how to tape my knee for my hiking trip, so hopefully this won't spoil my plans.

I'm glad there's consensus on Bridezilla's attitude ruby. I totally agree.:) I realise that places at a reception cost money but in the overall scheme of things it's a drop in the ocean. I thought it most unseemly when my BIL got married. He had a reserve list and was blatantly inviting 'extras' when others couldn't make it. We were first on the team sheet as DH was best man but how mortifying to be a substitute or just a squad player.

We're off the Bombay Sapphire today and then out to a late lunch. It's dull here but I think it's stopped raining. I've decided to wear my black skinny jeans with a grey and white Breton top.

Yesterday I tried on various pairs of blue jeans in my wardrobe (all straight leg) and didn't like any of them on me. I know skinnies aren't meant to be particularly fashionable at the moment but I'm sticking with them.:)

One more pound lost today. I'll probably put it back on later!:rotfl:

    Good morning lovely ladies.

Back from my trip to Coventry....yes it was voluntary, I wasn't "sent" there.:rotfl: I had a lovely time. We didn't do a lot just a bit of sightseeing, ate out a couple of times. Pottered around the charity shops. Bought a pretty cotton dress, white with small navy pattern, ideal for the Amazon trip £4, a summer jacket with a fine black pinstripe, £4 and a junky cardigan beige/black sort of "ethnic" patterns, £2 - ideal for wearing round the house in the winter.

Maman....your weekend away sounds wonderful....I fancy Krakow too.
Yes it will be chilly but these Eastern European capitals are really geared up to cold weather so even if it's snowing you will be fine. We visited Prague in February and yes it snowing but all the public buildings seem to have proper cloakrooms where everyone deposits their winter coats and outer layers so then you are not roasting indoors.

Often restaurants etc are lovely and comfortable with roaring open fires and it's just super warm and toasty. I loved it and I would class myself as a "warm weather sunshine kind of gal".

Speaking of winter coats I have just ordered myself a full, length winter white shearling coat on eBay. A bargain!! worn once for a winter wedding, £50 when the full price was £225. Now that will be super toasty.

Indie.......have you tried taking a good probiotic...my gut health has been so much better now I take one. I also have a portion of Greek yoghurt every day, lovely with fruit and drizzled with honey. And again lots of good bacteria.

Have to smile at your dating escapades. I guess you'll just have to keep kissing the frogs.......your prince will be out there somewhere. Must say you are a braver woman than me.:D

Re the knee......I bought myself a knee brace. I don't wear it all the time, just when I know I'm going to be walking a lot. Would that help. Plus have you tried glucosomaine. I'm taking it again now and it does seem to be helping. Plus I also take omega 3. But yes you are quite right, Physio to strengthen the muscles which support the knee joints are your best form of attack.

SUgarbaby.....sorry you didn't make it to Karoake, hopefully you will feel better soon.

Ruby.....try not to let Bridezilla upset you, weddings can be very stressful and brides often over-react. It saddens me to see what weddings have become. They are like major Hollywood style productions. In the quest for the perfect fairy tale wedding people seem to have lost all sense of proportion. No wonder the word Bridezilla has taken a hold.

Raining here, need to go out for paint. The electrician has now fitted the fan in the kitchen so we need to give it a lick of paint to freshen it up. A bit tired and achey today but everywhere is reasonably neat and tidy so I can take it relatively easy and just go at my own pace.

Hope you all have a great day.
  • when i recall my grandparents wedding pictures after ww2, with rationing still in force, she wore a lovely suit. I often thing all the fanfare only happened recently.

    Hello Ladies,

My son got his 1st year A Level exam results today, so we went to Pizza Express for our evening meal to celebrate. :j I had a voucher from Pizza Express for dough balls and I had 2 Nectar Summer Rewards vouchers which paid for the 4 pizzas.:) We all enjoyed our pizzas and we brought the 4th pizza home and put it in the fridge for another day. :)

I sent a text to friends and family and did Facebook message because I was so proud of my son's achievements. :) He loved me reading out all the messages of congratulations to him in the restaurant.

LL welcome back. I am glad you had a good time in Coventry with your friend.

I got married in 1986 and we had a budget of less than £900 to buy everything to do with the wedding, so even back then I was good at saving pennies and spending every pound wisely. I do not understand the wanton waste and ridiculously expensive weddings that are the norm now. People tend to forget the marriage is the most important part not just the wedding day.
  • Thank you to everyone for your encouraging words about Bridezilla :rotfl: I haven't had any nasty comments from her today, but still I'm not keen on going, although I will (if only to save myself from more comments later!!). I do appreciate that they had limited numbers and therefore if we weren't going to attend our places could have been filled by other people, but things do come up at the last minute, and she wasn't remotely interested in hearing what my reason was for asking. What if MIL had broken her leg and wasn't able to have the kids at all? I would still have liked to think that OH could go, but apparently not - not a nice attitude.

Having said that we were invited to a wedding a couple of weeks ago and it was clear that we were last minute replacements, which wasn't very flattering either! OH went on his own (MIL was on holiday) which was fine, they didn't mind at all, didn't even comment in fact.....

Have you tried the Hammersmith ceroc freestyle indie? I think it's every other Saturday night (or used to be) and had a good mix of men and women, it was a lot friendlier than some other ones I went to as well.

Congratulations on your son's results sugarbaby, he must be very chuffed! :j
Finally debt free!! March 2018 :j
  • sugar congratulations on your son's results. Reading out the messages was so sweet and heartwarming. Hope he enjoys the next stage and finds a path he enjoys and excels.

Sugarbaby Congratulations to your son on his results. :) Best wishes for his future & with such a supportive family I'm sure he will go far!
A good life is when you assume nothing, do more, need less, smile often, dream big, laugh a lot, and realise how blessed you are.
