Hi Amy, welcome to the thread. Don't know if you saw it but Deleted User did quite a good comparison on the thread you set up..

We would all recommend SW as we've seen good results, have you read the first post with the outlines of the plan on? Does it seem like something you could follow?

  • Hi Shala

Love the idea of smaller short term targets as if I think about how much I need to loose in total I get overwhelmed, start to panic and reach for more food. I need to break out of this cycle as it might seem strange but it's only recently I've realised just how big I've become.

My dd will be 4 in April so want to get this weight off so I can join in with her. Simple things like riding a bike, going swimming or even dressing up with her in off the rack fancy dress costumes. (Yes I know I could go swimming now but I just don't have the confidence at this size)

Going to first official weigh in tomorrow. I know your challenge doesn't officially start until Monday but I've long journey ahead and need to make a start.

Can you put me down for 11 lbs

Hopefully it will be a little more but I've never done SW before so want to keep it realistic.
    Cheers x

    Morning all

Thanks for the new thread Shala and for keeping us all in line. In case you missed it, as I pre-empted the new thread, my target is 14 pounds.

Sorry to hear your Mum disrupted Christmas Tweets, mine was the same, always some drama or other. The best thing is just to remind yourself she's getting older and won't be around forever and try to resist comfort eating.

Welcome to the thread Haylaluru, I meant to say that on the old thread and forgot. It definitely works to set yourself targets and breaking it down into manageable chunks makes it less daunting. As a new starter you'll find the weight comes off quite quickly and you'll probably smash your target before the end of the challenge.

Amy - everyone here has chosen SW so that speaks for itself! I've done both WW and SW and I prefer SW. WW is mainly points based so it's a bit like calorie counting which means you could live on Mars bars if you wanted to, whereas SW encourages you to eat lots of fruit and veg with lean meat and fish and to move away from foods that are high in calories and not nutritious.

Welcome back Mary and well done for continuing to lose weight since you stopped going to group. :j

Have a great time tonight if you celebrate NYE. DH and I are going out for a Chinese meal then we'll see the new year in on the beach with a crowd of others, a bonfire, fireworks, and celebrating twice - once at midnight Spanish time and then again an hour later for British new year! :rotfl: must go and buy some disposable flutes for the fizz. :D

Happy New Year (when it comes)!

Thanks for the thread shala. I won't join the challenge as I only have a pound to lose then it's a case of just getting as low down my target range as possible. I will be around though for the motivation and the virtual friendship.:A

Another vote for SW here amy. I've never followed any other plan so can't compare but it's really just a guideline/framework for healthy eating. We all know which food groups we should be focussing on and which should be treats. SW just helps with a few simple 'rules'.

    Back soon.;)
  • Thanks for all the responses, I think I'm going to try Slimming World. Just a few questions

Like weight watchers do you get a certain amount of points depending on your weight?

Can you have like treats if you wanted to ?

Definitely you can have treats amy. SW call them syns. Generally people have up to 15 a day but some members who are very overweight sometimes have a few more to begin with. To give you an example a large glass of wine is about 9 syns, a Cadbury's Crunchie is 9.5, an extra slice of bread (1 a day is built into the plan) is 6. I don't want to lead you astray before you've started but many of us tweak the rules a bit and save up our syns for weekends or special occasions. Do keep asking questions.:)

I'm afraid I ate a few chocolates last night which weren't planned. I think I was cross with my DD2 dithering about whether they're coming to dinner tonight or not so indulged myself.

I've had a SW breakfast (fried eggs on toast), I'm taking a Satsuma to football again and I've got plenty of ham & salad stuff for lunch if/when I'm hungry. This evening's meal should only have syns in the cheese sauce in the lasagne and then plenty of syns left for bubbly. That assumes I don't start on the chocolates again.:o

Tomorrow I'll be back on plan properly and by Monday I'll be angelic.:D
  • Sorry to be a pain, it's just I want to understand what I'm doing before I join.

So are fruit and vegetables free and anything else you would need to use your syns for?

Also does sugar free jelly have any syns?
