Welcome Noelphobic, I know how you feel, I feel completely overwhelmed by stuff all the time, I think that you just have to not be too hard on yourself an accept it may be a slow process. In regards to the sanitary products are there any women's charities near you that may take them? Or even a food bank or something if the boxes are still sealed? x0 -

"upgrading" of DS' room is nearly there. Just need to get him some blinds, a new duvet cover and give the walls a lick of paint and it'll be finished.

Hey,welcome to the thread,Noelphobic.Don't give up!!I have been decluttering my house on and off,for years(Hoarding partner, busy 4-child family). It is only now I am starting to feel happy with how it looks (when the rest of the family is out and I have cleaned all day :rotfl:).
As eandjsmum says, start small.Tell yourself that today you are going to (say) clear a counter in the kitchen. When you clear it,find a proper place to put everything you are going to keep.eg,look through the paperwork. If it is old,not needed, throw it out.If you need to keep it,store it,either in a file, pretty box,loft.....Then move onto the next item that has gravitated to the counter and doesn't belong-toys,school bags, keys and wallets.Again, find these items a permanent home.
I think one of the reasons it took me this long to declutter my not-overly-huge house,is that I spent so long "moving the problem around." So,I would find,eg, a box of papers to sort.I would file some, recycle some, shred others. Then I would get to the papers I wouldn't know what to do with.Shuffle them around a bit, then put them in a different pile to look at later.Come back to them months later, then the cycle begins again .So now I try to stick to a new rule-only handle an item once (maybe twice,if I am naughty).Pick it up,decide immediatley what you are going to do with it,before moving onto othe next item.
With regards to toiletries, are they in good enough condition (in date, unopened, etc) to donate.Either to a shelter, even a charity shop, who will resell,or you could even just pop them into the food-bank boxes that are often in the front of supermarkets.
Today I sorted out the third and last box from 15yo's room :j.I have set aside alot to go to charity (hopefully tomorrow),but for now I will list stuff that have actually left the house

I'm not sure I the boxes are sealed but the items inside are individually wrapped. There is a food bank nearby - I used to volunteer there.
I suppose I could always leave them in a public toilet somewhere.
It's just occurred to me that I'm meeting my friend for lunch today. She has a daughter in her twenties and nieces, so she would possibly take them.3 stone down, 3 more to go0 -
1) box of tampons
2) pack of sanitary towels
My friend didn't want them but I put them in the food bank collection point at Tesco.
3) Hessian lunch bag
4) travel mug
5-6) two umbrellas
7) plastic cutlery set

All the above to charity shop
35) tube of prescription ointment, out of date and never used, went in bin
36) tube of intensive hair conditioner - counting this as a declutter item as I won't be replacing it.
I have a carrier bag of clothes ready to go to a charity shop and will make a start on another box of odds and ends.3 stone down, 3 more to go0 -

I've been looking back at my old posts. I 'joined' this thread on 2nd January but I think that was my only post until yesterday!
It's quite likely that I have already got rid of 2017 plus items this year - the snag is that I've probably also acquired that many and more besides.:eek:3 stone down, 3 more to go0 -
38) plasters
39) paint brush
40) paint roller
