  • Good news today :D

My granddads will is still in probate(grrr) BUT my dad had a meeting with the executors to his will and he was given some personal effects that my granddad has left to my dad, the trust account for my dad is in the process of being set up(as he's the 'breadwinner' - pays the rent, bills etc) so over the next couple months we are getting a new car(an SUV or similar that can fit all 6 of us comfortably) and we will definitely be moving house, so it's more important now for us to declutter, not just goods, but mum wants to focus on eating up all the food etc so that we don't have to take that with us and risk anything going off or going out of date, and so that she can go shopping from afresh to restock once we're in the new house :o

Dad had 1 can this evening as it was good news overall so it was celebratory, mum didn't mind that so much.

I had a coffee to go on the bus to work this morning and on the bus home tonight, but those are the only caffeinated drinks I've had today so I'll give myself that one :o
  • Sounds as though things are on the up for you GemmaJ. That's a great total for a day Suziethecat - well done. I have to declutter the next bedroom carpet today and get it to the tip.

Unfortunately one of the dogs I walked took me down by bounding into the back of my knees yesterday - the other 2 got very excited and jumped all over me. All this resulted in a sprained wrist - in bandages and a sore shoulder and hip. So my contribution to the carpet job will be a bit limited. But it will be lovely on Tuesday when both bedrooms and the stairs are done.

It's so lovely having the rooms so clear. I have only boxed things up so far but I'm determined not to put everything back in the room again.

Good to see you're feeling a bit more positive KitKatMum2 - it will all gradually get sorted - but it's the mindset of no more clutter we all have to hang on to. I found it easier to focus on my clothes first and do one drawer at a time - so all my tee-shirts are now folded to stand upright in the drawer so I can see everyone of them. I still to many but it will make it easier to see the ones I really don't wear and maybe consider getting rid of them.
Have a great weekend decluttering everyone.
  • Last year I 'discovered' decluttering and whilst we didn't get to 2016 things as a family (ignoring the 1,000+ books!) we did make a major difference to our home and how we feel about belongings. This year hasn't started so well - full of good intentions but I feel life has got in the way and I'm generally feeling bogged down. This is mainly because the last three months of last year, and all of this year so far, have been dominated by an elderly aunt where I'm next of kin/power of attorney and who was living alone but is now in a nursing home (and I had to 'put' her there). So shortly there'll be another house to sort out, once she agrees that she won't go back home again.

But then yesterday the sun came out, and it began to feel a bit like spring and I decided I just need to get back to it. The house is a mess, and in need of a good clean and I just need to get on with it.

So today's project is bedding. We have more than fits into our storage so it's cluttering up our bedroom.

But before that, I have dug out the list of things that DD1 decluttered in January before she went back to university. I can't be bothered to type up the who,e list (two columns of a4!) but it totals 128 items, so they're added to the family total.

I have decluttered a few things to CS but unfortunately I've buried the list! That sums me up... but it will be a nice surprise when I find it!

Checked with local dogs home before getting rid of the quilts first, but they didn't need them.

Off to look for a few more bits.

eta: Went through just one kitchen cupboard and got rid of almost a bin bag full of out of date stuff *embarrassed*

This morning 30 minute rummage produced

    3x Pairs of shoes CS
    5x Bags CS
    2x Purses CS
Various clothes and a few of DH's to make up a black bin bag full also to the CS.

Looking to move house again later this year, so want to minimise the packing of stuff we don't need or use :rotfl:

Have had a funny ol' day today.Got bits done, but it was all a bit random.

My partner is the hoarder in this family (and most of the kids are just untidy :)),but my partner is the one who has collected every little bit of tat in the world for the last 30 years .And it can be hard to get him onboard the decluttering train.Since we had the extension done,he has turned the garage into an "office" (cos I am not allowed to call it a tat tower ;)).At least it keeps it all out of the house, and I can just close the door on it all.

However, since we moved back into the house last May,our bedroom has continued to be a bit of a dumping ground. It is still full of boxes of stuff for him to sort through, and he was still not using the huge PAX wardrobe he owns-it was mostly empty, his clothes were still in boxes and pile between our bedroom, his [STRIKE]rubbish room[/STRIKE] office, and even some in a canvas -covered unit of shelves at the top of the stairs, which he had forgotten about.

So,imagine my surprise when, earlier this week,he asked me to remind him that this weekend,he wanted to sort out his clothes (and by extension, alot of mess in our bedroom, but don't tell him that) :j:j.

So that kept him busy for the day.Meanwhile,I sort of sorted a couple of the shelves in the canvas covered at the top of the stairs.Happily emptied one of the 2 shelves of his clothes to OH to put in PAX wardrobe (didn't want to discourage him too much be lumping both shelves of clothing on him for him to sort). As a result of this little exercise,a few items of clothing went in the bag for charity (will count when leaves).

The canvas unit is mostly used, these days for my stuff. And at the moment it is full of random stuff that I am not sure how to sort:clothes (because for a long time it was my only clothes storage unit),boxes of cards, baby boxes containing wrist bands,20 week scans, first tooth-brushes,etc,kids favourite dolls, letters to Santa, teeth for the tooth fairy, letters to the tooth-fairy,etc.......
This afternoon I removed alot of clothes that either don't fit,I will never wear (receive alot of clothes from MIL,and there is far too much I will never wear, but don't have the heart to throw out-tsk tsk). They are currently dumped on the sofa, and I will have a look through them properly tomorrow. But a few things did go in the charity bag..
So nothing really countable today, but a few more things in the house moved to where they should live.

Because we coouldn't find the hanging rail that formed part of the PAX wardrobe, and I didn't want all those clothes hanging around the bedroom for another day,I took a quick trip to Ikea tonight.Of course, you say "quick trip" and "Ikea" in the same sentence....I took 2 daughters with me,and we had a nice time browsing at all the things we didn't know we needed :rotfl:.I did actully buy a couple of shelf units for the kitchen(as mentioned by Kit Kat last week),so looking forward to tinkering with my kitchen cupboards tomorrow.

  • It's been a busy couple of weeks for me decluttering -

    - 2 watches sold on eBay
    - 3 pictures donated to charity shop
    - even more carpet offcuts to skip (they were tiny and I couldn't figure out what else to do with them)
    - 2 person tent sold on gumtree
    - 6 out of date herbs and spices binned
    - 4 mis shaped/broken plastic tubs binned

In addition we are eating out of freezer for the next week or so to get it emptied a bit, there's a lot of stuff crammed in there and I'd like to have it back to being organised and full of meals ready to go rather than random bits of leftovers. Having surgery in a few weeks so won't be up to cooking so priority is decluttering bedroom so I have somewhere relaxing to rest and getting kitchen into shape so it's easy for OH to feed me. Still have an empty bookshelf in living room, am going to keep a space for our laptops instead of leaving them on the sofa/chairs, and will just leave the rest empty until I figure out what else needs to be in the living room rather than study/bedroom. Money came through from Ziffit/Music magpie so new desk is bought and taking shape. I was previously going to get a shelving unit but now I've decluttered I don't need one so all I have in the study is the desk with a shelf above it and a pinboard. It looks weirdly empty, although I might get a sofa bed so I can relax and do more reading.

OH sorted through his clothes and we had 2 bin liner for the charity shop and one bin liner of stained clothes/old work clothes that went to the skip. I want to get a new PAX wardrobe from Ikea as our wardrobe is broken at top and held together with a few screws so once we have a few more bits sold we can afford that.

  • Dad has been to see one of the executors to my granddads will today and was given a few more personal effects left to him.

I think all that's left now is large furniture that needs a van to move and valuable items which need the will to be released before we know what's happening with them.

I also went through every single DVD and computer game to make sure all discs were in the correct boxes, manuals were present etc. etc.

Dad has pinched the small broken DVD unit that i managed to stop using due to the new TV stand. He says he can fix it and use it for himself... :rotfl:

I have tidied up a space in and around the wardrobe that got messy due to day to day life.

I have also got a makeup bag that has one of everything you would need to apply a full face of makeup, all sealed, but the newest item was bought at least 2 years ago. I bought it all as i wanted to start wearing makeup daily, or near daily at least, but it hasn't happened. I have only just about started to implement a solid morning and evening skincare routine :o

Not sure what to do with it all. I managed to sell some Avon brow items(new and sealed) on the fb selling sites a few weeks ago but the current items i have listed have had absolutely no interest at all... :(

We still also have the charity shop bags here :rotfl: What I'm strongly considering doing is putting every single charity shop/car boot/saleable items bags of things together in the middle of the living room, take a picture and list it on the selling sites as a car boot job lot for something like £50 or £60 and just cut our losses. It looks like we will definitely be living somewhere else by the summer so we are focusing on sorting out/tidying up now and the car boots don't start until at least the end of next month so these items are in our way :(
