I'm currently on the BG fix ending 28th Feb and looking at going to separate suppliers too.

Out of interest....
1. Do the poor Iresa customer ratings not put you off?
2. Are there any penalties of withdrawing from a switch once it has started? I want to wait to see what comes out of the auction on 14th feb, but don't want to leave it too late incase the prices are worse than today's offers.

FG

1. No - I am an Iresa customer. They are not perfect but having said that neither were E.oN nor Ovo.

2. Possible confusion. As far as Iresa is concerned, they do not initiate your transfer until after the 14 day cooling off period has elapsed. In theory, there should be less confusion than with a supplier signed up to 17 day switching.

1. Fair enough.

2. Understood, thanks for clarifying.

• If I recall, there were 100,000 people who switched to the collective scheme about to end. This was to one of the Big 6, who seemed capable of handling this large number (I have no doubt there were some issues, but we can assume the huge majority of switches went through without issues).

From what I can see, there is no way Iresa or some of these smaller players could handle say even one-fifth (20,000) switches all happening within a very similar time frame.

If you have the free time at hand to deal with possible issues, I suppose go for it with one of the smaller players. But my gut would say the huge majority of switchers would prefer the odds to be in favour of a hassle free switch.

Think carefully of who you switch to - and how that company could handle a large number of transfers happening at similar times.

The difference in costs between the Big 6 supplier prices and some of the newer entrants to the market are so big that it'll make it worth while spending some time sorting out issues if they occur. I'm looking at "saving" in excess of £170 pa vs the best Big 6 Tariff available to me.:)

I've just had an email from the ES Club offering a switch to Iresa.

Is this the bulk switch they have been promising for Scots and a few others?

Thanks

If it is, I would be worried. Iresa is barely out of the blocks and a mass inwards migration might overstretch their resources. I say that as an Iresa customer.

I rather assumed that as the offer was likely to be limited to the old Manweb area and Scotland, it wouldn't be a National supplier.

Hi there - no this isn't our collective. I think your email might have just been an alert about your tariff ending where we show you info about the cheapest fix on your comparison.

The Scottish/Welsh (+ NW England) collective will launch on Tuesday. More info is here.

Excellent thank you. Fingers crossed. I see Scottish Power have just announced an increase.
• I too am on the BG collective fix ending 28th Feb. Although Iresa came up cheapest, I thouhgt I'd try another of the small companies, so contacted Affect at the beginning of the month. I got a welcome pack through that said theywould make the switch on 17th February. Efficient, but I'd lose a couple of weeks worth of cheaper energy from the collective fix, so I rang them to ask if it could be delayed. Got straight through (no multiple-choice robotic switchboard) to a very personable young lady (Kim) who explained that they automatically switched 17 days after receiving a request, but that they would put my application on hold and could I email them mid-february to confirm. I did so, and within a couple of hours Kim herself rang back to confirm the direct debit.

I sent her an email to confirm, and added that so far I was pleasantly surprised with their personal touch, and that it was refreshing to be treated like a person rather than an account number. She replied a few minutes later with the following:

"Dear Pete,
I’m just about to resend your Welcome Pack with all the new details – any problems you know where I am.

Thank you for your kind words, it’s nice having the opportunity to speak to the same customer more than once, working for the big 6 it rarely ever happened, I think that’s what makes such a difference. I guess that’s why are ratings are doing so well on Martin Lewis too!"

If they can maintain this level of customer service, I reckon they'll become the 'first direct' of energy companies, and good luck to them.:T
