Afternoon all, Thanks to Ccl & Dnms for starting us off today :)

Welcome to Cheery Daff, its a great thread, with lots of brilliant people :)
FatVonD, Some people are so thoughtless.
Bagpuss, I'm the same with the stationary!
CCL, so glad that you had a lovely Christmas and I hope that your son gets back into sleeping better for you soon.
Dnms, its definitely the kids that make it Christmas for me :)
    Baileysbabe, Enjoy your panto
Natlie, That's very organised of you!
Bob, love a Boxing day buffet!

    Hi to everyone else.

All our family left about an hour ago so we've had a quick tidy round and now time for movies & relaxing :) I love having everyone over for the 2 nights but its always nice to have the house back to ourselves too!
Our mse Christmas went down pretty well.
We bought the kids a boom box for less then £20 and have given them all our cds.
My mil gave us £40 towards a record player as she didn't want to give dh back his old record player that shes had for years, she gave us this in the Summer when we visited and picked up all dh's old records. Spent £38 on the record player so £2 profit and decided to wrap it all up for the kids, they love it, they both love music, dh is happy that the records aren't just sat in a cupboard and mil has her loft empty again ;)
We too have a little pot of leftovers as my youngest didn't eat anything! This will make a xmas soup like Dnms.
This morning we had bubble & squeak with sausage, bacon & beans. To use an extra bag of sprouts that we forgot to cook yesterday.
Kids currently watching Ghostbusters which we bought as used from Amaz0n for a couple of £
We've played lots of games inc trivial pursuit which we added a new set of questions to for the kids, we bought the Harry Potter set of cards which they all loved :)
We used xmas crackers that we'd bought last year in the sales along with the 4 that were left over from last year, means I have enough left for 1 each next year too so long so won't plan to buy in the sales this year.
I have plenty of cards/paper left from previous Jan sales so plan on keeping my purse firmly shut and staying away from the shops for as long as possible.
Making the most of our time together, just us as we have my niece quite a bit over this next week whilst my sis is working.
Food for the rest of the day is just going to be a help yourself from the fridge or cupboard as I'm all cooked out!

Right that's about it for me as I'm all about the use up now and there is a bottle of irish cream that might go off if I don't drink it all up :p;):D:rotfl::beer::beer::beer::beer:

Sorry for running off mid grumble :D but I was sorting teenage dramas...

I am so peed off, not just at the waste of food but at the rudeness and lack of respect in not telling us and because we'd put a lot of though, hard work and planning into the day. Also I feel like they have all colluded behind our backs.

Before I signed off before I was about to say that no doubt my Inlaws will find some way to blame me for all this and DH rang them this afternoon and sure enough they have!

I am washing my hands of them again. I have only just started talking to them again in the last few months since FIL branded me as 'evil' when DH moved out for a while 18 months ago (I won't wash any more of my dirty linen but some of you may remember.)

Anyhow, suffice to say I have lots of food in

  • stuff em FvD! Life is too short to feel obligated to have some people in your life. Familial relationships included! I decided last year to end a relationship with a family member and really have felt my life is better as a result. She just made me feel bad every time I saw her

  • So sorry to read of the family issues FvD - it's so difficult, but I don't blame you. There's only so much effort you can put in before the other party has to do something... I've had quite a few stressy Christmases in the past so can sympathise. I say stick to your guns and take the moral high ground. Shame on them.
I'm still dosed up to the eyeballs on cold medication and feeling not-that-great physically. Our restaurant dinner was a bit wasted on me because I can't taste any food at all - but it was nice to get out with the family. As I predicted, ds Christmas money was burning a hole in his pocket. He's bought himself some new football boots today. Thankfully I talked him round from the £37 pair to the £18 pair :money: I only spent on some wool to finish a blanket I've made for a friend and new toothbrushes for the 4 of us - was quite pleased with myself.
Daily jobs are done, and I've planned for a day of cooking and nice food tomorrow or Wednesday. We don't have much 'Christmas food' in - I haven't seen the point. Hope the kids don't feel as though they're missing out...
DNMS - when I was in the butchers the other day the woman serving said to me that a rough rule of thumb is 250g serving of meat per person. That seems like loads to me - half a pound at a time!!! I ended up coming home with a joint of beef that is about 2kg to serve 4 of us with leftovers. Some leftovers...
  • Evening all :hello: sorry for your stresses FVD unfortunately you can't choose your family, but you can choose when you you don't need to spend time with them anymore. No one needs that in their life.

Sounds like lots had lovely days, we did too. Must confessed to none of us getting dressed today ;) it's been all about Lego and leftovers :D we don't do a roast diner, no room for 12 to sit  so hot buffet it was :D lots left over, but not silly amounts. Also made bns soup with some roasted from a few days ago. DH will take portion to work tonight.

Have 'spent' in sales but all from various virtual pots, presents, clothes etc... so no money from my account :D I am also contemplating buying some curtains in the sale, had my eye on them for a while but two big windows mean not cheap any which way, I've found some at half price and great quality. I've left the website for a while may go back on and see if I still like them as much ;) they will be from house pot too and we need some as one window has been bare for over a year and the other has our old ones up (for privacy) but hopefully would be able to sell them for some offset too :D

Need to think of something to do with smalls tomorrow as DH will need some sleep and really want to take them out as they have been in for two days. Obviously don't want to spend, will think about options tonight.

    * Shared bath water & continue using up various open lotions and potions
    * Log on to library online and renew books the little ones haven't finished yet :)
    * Get out for some fresh air & exercise as we've not been out since Friday
    * Watch more films from stash inc the new (to us) dvd we got my eldest for xmas
    * All meals from stores, we have plenty in
    * Book dh & my eldest an appointment for the opticians
    * Minimum heating on as plenty of blankets & candles
    * May do some baking if ds1 still wants to, he asked at 7pm so I said it was too late but to ask again today
    * Check banking/update spreadsheet
    * Check luckyphone/numberplate/fpl
    * Dejunk email accounts and unsubscribe from anything I can

That's a start of a list at least, not feeling too tired at the minute but ought to get off the laptop I guess!

    Morning all :hello:

Did buy the curtains last night but used a £5 voucher they had sent me and then when I was searching for their loyalty card in my purse to activate another £5 voucher found another gift card, that had £10.50 on I didn't know I had :o if I don't love them when they arrive they'll go back. Delivery was free anyway.

So today, will see what last if the leftovers need using today and freeze any that don't
Make lasagne with ys mince from freezer
Washing on, radiator shuffle once done
Go out for fresh air at some point
Go through purse and check some other gift cards ;)
Find b and q vouchers from surveys so we can go tomorrow to get some things we need
    Find homes for some presents

    Will check back later. PF.

Morning PF :) good call about getting out of the house for some fresh air! Think we will be doing the same. Didn't go out yesterday and don't want cabin fever to set in! Oh suggested using our membership cards to go to the local(ish) zoo and then stopping at a country pub. I'm thinking country walk....

I've just checked my bank accounts. Seems like I've checked out of budgeting so need to get my head around my finances again! Could do with checking spending diary and working out cc spends... seems like too much work! phew I did it :j I put on my big girls' pants and it wasn't the major headache I was expecting as most things I had accounted for  I'm a bit over on what I recorded (11.85) so need to find where I've recorded too much! Looking at food. I spent £6 over budget and only £16 more than I spend in a normal month Also Christmas gift shopping came in just over budget by £6. I love that we all keep on top of our finances like this! :D

[STRIKE]check through fridge and see what needs using. Also need to start using up the millionaire shortbread I made last week...
    [/STRIKE]
Stop at local shop and pick up some milk. [STRIKE]Look through over flowing larder and find bag of coffee...[/STRIKE]

[STRIKE]get salmon out of freezer for tea[/STRIKE]

[STRIKE]hang up washing, [/STRIKE]also doing the radiator shuffle. We need to put our 2nd freezer in the garage so I have somewhere to put our heated dryer

Might turn my work phone on and do a couple of tasks I needed to do but didn't have time to on xmas eve. Might leave it until tomorrow though. Will see how the mood takes me. Also going to look at my diary and see about booking some leave in Jan/Feb. I have 6.5 days I have to take before the end of March. Was thinking about it last night and realised if I take 3 days the way my working pattern falls I get 2 weeks off :j

Think that's it! Happy holidays guys xxx

    ETA

whizzed up an "on the edge" crust of bread into bread crumbs and put in the freezer

went through madam's pjs and took out the too small ones now she has a load more. Divided into ebay/cs piles. Need to go through all of her clothes and do this...

need to speak to oh about financial spends over the last week. some things i got and some he did. need to make sure we're about straight!

productive day so far just need to keep oh from campaigning for us to eat out. Think I might make some sandwiches & take a few slices of millionaires shortbread for the walk so I can keep it to just a pint afterwards ;)
