I've added a new line to my sig to record the amount of money we save by me only working p/t. Really for my own interest as I want to know in monetary terms what all my frugalling effects contribute to the household - makes me feel less guilty for oh who works so much! - so far this month we're talking about an extra £350 to the pot (that and my wombling total) Be good to tell him at the end of the year :money:
Yum to chorizo!
I think it's an interesting point. Technically I work part time too. Despite always being "on" as you always are with your own business.
Because I only leave DD at times that DH is around, I save us money on child care. Plus being able to pick up DS each day means I am saving on paying for after school club too. In the same way as you, I cook from scratch the majority of the time, save money on shopping in a frugal way, batch cook, etc.
We also make a large saving each year by not running a car, so no petrol or maintenance costs.
However all that said, I think for many people who have children and work full time, the fact they barely earn because of the above mentioned costs, can still be worthwhile in the short-term when you consider the loss of career trajectory that can occur when people do either drop hours or stop completely to sort the kids out in those pre school years." I usually avoid the shops, because all the choice and decision-making make me moody in about half an hour; if I have someone with me I last about 15 minutes
, but, today, I needed to find one of these necklaces with a heart pendant that you can break in 2, for dd1. She is 8, and wanted to apologise to her best friend for arguing so often; it's not easy when the friend is disfigured due to an accident when she was 3, and the whole class feels protective of her; and my dd is a bit shy, and feels comfortable enough with only this girl to do any arguing at all. Normally, I would tell her to find another way to apologise, but I felt this one was special.
Right, that was quite a novel. It's the end of the sales in Belgium, and I accidentally found some stuff I needed (and some I wanted....) on great discounts. I think the sales period did not go too well, because there was lots of nice stuff still left.
