What are you doing right NOW to prepare for Christmas?

In Sardinia with DH and my mum at her house, small town in the middle of the mountains, super quiet. Ignoring everything about Christmas except the religious bit. Tomorrow night DH and I hope to join the procession in the centre of town to carry Baby Jesus to the crib in the main church. My mum is too elderly to go out in the night, said she will either go to the day service or watch the one on TV.
My sister was going to join us but I just got a message from her that she will be here on Boxing Day instead.
Managed to curb my mum's frantic food shopping and all we will have is vegetable based, risotto and fresh cheese ravioli. No big food bust-ups, all super simple and easy to cook. DH will probably have a bit of wine.
Last night I was very ill with my stomach due to eating some very rich food while I stayed in a nearby town, this has been a blessing in disguise because I had the perfect excuse to ask for basic simple food. DH also very relieved that we are not in for a stuff-a-thon.Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
Sweet FA.Drinking beer, watching tv n trying to psyche myself up for all the hype"You can't stop the waves, but you can learn to surf"
(Kabat-Zinn 2004):D:D:D0 -
I'm in jammies lounging with my feet up with a wee glass of Ballycastle (aldi baileys but nicer as it's less sweet and of course much cheaper!). I've started a last minute shopping list for hubby to do tomorrow, poor thing
The only things moving are my fingers on this tablet and my mind running through prep for Sunday.
It's very relaxinghighly recommended
Flip, I thought that read as you were in Ballycastle, I was gonna say swing round for a drink, I'm just up the road
I'm on the Feeneys now. Scrummy stuff, whilst watching White Christmas.0 -
I've come down with a stinking cold which is threatening to prevent me travelling to my family Christmas morning. So I'm cwtched up on the sofa under a furry blanket, feeling sorry for myself, but furthering g medical science by working my way through the drinks cabinet in a bid to discover the best and most curative 'toddy' recipe0

Ballycastle, the wee town is lovely. I stayed there at the hotel on the front for business last year. Got taken to the pub along the road and they had a lock in. Oh boy did the next day's meeting hurt, never quite had a hangover like it. Talk about hospitality!
A pity I'm across the water unless I'd be straight over with my bottle of Ballycastle
Sorry to hear you're not well Mock Turtle, watch out for sherry toddies! X
I've just blitzed breadcrumbs for the stuffing, get me getting ahead :rotfl:0 -

I've had mine for over a week now.:(
Constant cough and snotty nose alongside a sore throat, pounding headache and aching feverish body.
I have given in and hit the bottle.
Kill or cure 'I'm sinking in the quicksand of my thought
And I ain't got the power anymore'0 -
We did The Last Shop yesterday, and Barbara's made the idea of going out seem thoroughly uninviting, so I've been shuffling stuff around so the stockings can be stuffed quickly & to plan (I'm easily a full day ahead of my usual seasonal self).
So I've spent much of the day frogging a beanie I knitted years ago, for the wool, and I plan to have a bash at knitting mittens...
The lads are playing some wargame or other (estimated duration, days) so we're having a wonderful laid back approach to The Day.
Right now I'm going to look out my "Scandi" bedding so the Christmas eve bedlinens are seasonal & clean & then I'll conk out on the current lot.0 -
I'm in bed writing a list of everything I need to do tomorrow and checking recipes for Christmas day.
My Tesco delivery came and there were so many items unavailable or substituted for things I didn't want that I had to drive out to a 24 hour asda and buy everything. Spent £100! I thought I'd been so clever having a delivery organised for this evening...never again. There seems to be no way of avoiding the supermarket pre christmas. However I shouldn't have to visit another shop until 2017 (I hope).0 -
I`m all sorted, as far as I can be.
Have a list for folks here tomorrow as I will be out to work a late shift on ward - 2-8 , and ex is collecting DS and DGD at 3pm. Ex DiL is then collecting DGD from there later, so my pressies to her will have to go there, but this includes half a wheel of Stilton which is still in fridge. Anyone like to bet it gets forgotten here?? (despite list and A4 note on top of bag of pressies)
We`ve just eaten - garlic bread, Bratwurst, salady bits, and dippy stuff, and Morrisons yule log for pud, tomorrow I will try to organise DS and DGD a bit, and then off to work.
When I get home there`s just me and OH (He`s out to evening vigil mass, dunno which of us is home first, but kind of both doing the same thing, he does church, I do time with patients) then a quiet just the 2 of us night and Christmas day, just us 2 old fogies and the dog.
Happy Christmas folks.0 -

Snap! Exactly how I'm feeling. Just finished the dregs of the Captain Morgan and am now having lascivious thoughts about the bottle of Ballycastle I know is lurking in the sideboard. It's katkins' fault if I drink it...0
