If you continue in your own lane keeping a steady speed because the road ahead is clear and a driver is driving slower in a lane to your right is that still undertaking? You're not making a manoeuvre to pass them, you are continuing in your own, clear lane.
Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.

I have no choice but to undertake them somehow..

I sympathise - this is how I feel most days on my commute on a two lane dual carriageway. Yes, I could match their speed on the inside lane (which is below the limit for the road) or I could patiently queue behind them and hope that they move over (although they didn't for the last x miles of empty road, so why would they do it now?) so I find it's better for everyone to undertake if it's safe to do so.

Someone flashes me they have slim to no chance of me moving over

So you'll just sit in the outside lane out of spite?

Strictly speaking i would say lane hogging is worse as it has its own offencewhere as undertaking comes under without due care and attention. Although i think the latter can carry a higher penalty.
    .

    What offence is that then?

Lane Hogging has come under the offence of "Driving Without Due Care and Attention" since 2013.

"Undertaking" isn't illegal, it's frowned upon and if you had an accident doing it, you could face charges for careless driving. The highway code definition is deliberately vague on this and it's left upto the BiB to decide if your driving carelessly.

Basically if your in lane 1 approaching an MLM, you can stay in your lane and pass them perfectly legally, BUT if you aggressively changed lanes in order to undertake OR if you were weaving between cars, overtaking and undertaking like an Audi driver, you'd be in A LOT of trouble IF the BiB saw you.

Personally I think Lane hogging is worse than undertaking because it severely increases traffic when they are travelling at an unreasonable speed. But undertaking is very risky and not many people are alert enough when driving to watch out for cars undertaking them before they change lanes.

I've been stuck behind a lane hogger on a two part of a motorway. The traffic in the left Lane was travelling at around 50 mph due to some slow vehicles. The car in the second Lane infront of me who was overtaking ended up slowing down to the same speed as the left Lane but didn't move over even though there was enough room. After 30 seconds I flashed my lights a few times which he obviously saw because he looked in his mirror but wouldn't move over (maybe it was glentoran99). So then I beeped my horn and he seemed to get agitated and when it got to a 3 Lane bit he accelerated to 70mph+. So I just overtook him anyway and continued on at that speed and he immediately overtook me.
I find it funny how people get so agitated and wound up when driving especially if you flash your lights or beep your horn to make them know you are there!.
